  • Listicle Assignment: Five Things to Know about the Establish…

Five Things to Know about the Establishment of the U.S. Military’s Role in the International Community

From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, the role of the American military, as well as its acceptance by the American people, changed immeasurably. The Civil War proved the American (Union) military a significant force that, even with its failures in some areas of the war, could triumph through strategic adaptation.

As the 19th century wore on, and America became a larger economic and political power in the international system, the American militarys responsibilities would morph into duties that had not only the national security of the United States in mind, but also that of international security.

With the Spanish-American War, the American military became a part of the international power struggles that would continue throughout the next century. The military, in the First and Second World Wars would finally see full acceptance from the American people as a vast institution that needed a standing group of forces, and, in the end, would become the most significant military power of the free world.

In this assignment, you will create a listicle discussing the most important elements of the establishment of the United States military’s role in the international community. According to Wikipedia, a listicle is an article that is structured as a list, which is often fleshed out with additional text relating to each item. A typical listicle will have a title describing a specific number of items contained within, along with subsequent subheadings within the text for each entry. Basically, it is the combination of a list and an article.

You should pick the most critical aspects of these topics in your opinion, and you should write at least one paragraph containing at least five complex sentences about each of these choices.

Be specific and concise. You shouldnt give background information. You should use key terms and specific information that demonstrate how the issue or event is critical to understanding the U.S. military’s developing role in the international community.

*Note that the materials from Modules Four and Five are relevant to this assignment.

You can create this listicle as a Word document or a Sway Presentation. All major assertions and information taken from the course materials should be cited, and you should write in a formal manner.

    NO OUTSIDE SOURCES ARE PERMITTED

Tips for creating this assignment will be posted in Announcements.
