1. Listening to Chapter 15, one of the truths that encourages my heart is the true definition of the church. Often, people equate going to church with attending a physical building and participating in sermons and worship together. However, within the congregation, there may be individuals with immoral or sinful behaviors, including hatred and malice. This reality can sometimes lead to feelings of betrayal or disillusionment, causing some to withdraw from the church community.

I am excited to pursue the program in general to become duly licensed and support those suffering from mental health and disease of addiction.

The purpose of this assignment is to learn the basics of safety planning with victims of interpersonal violence.

For this assignment, you will review the case study and construct a safety plan with the identified victim.

Case Study:

Misty has come into your office today in tears. When you ask her what is wrong, she cries harder. After a while you calm her down. Misty is 23 years old and married to Bobby, who is 26 years old. They have been married for three years and have no children. Recently, Misty learned that she is pregnant.

Misty explains that Bobby “has a temper.” She reports that he has always had trouble calming down once he is angry. Misty believes that this is because he grew up in an abusive house and was physically abused by his father and mother. Misty explains that last night she returned from shopping and Bobby was already mad. As she tried to figure out what was wrong, he started accusing her of having an affair. Misty reports that it was shortly after the accusations that he slapped her across the face and choked her. He seemed to “wake up” and stop choking her when she began to lose consciousness. Misty reports that she felt “like I was suffocating.” Misty reports that this was not the first time this has happened.

Misty is confused on what to do next. She tells you she is not sure she can leave Bobby, but she doesn’t want to risk bringing a child into the relationship.

Instructions:

Design a comprehensive safety plan with Misty. A safety plan can be developed whether or not the victim leaves the house. Design your safety plan to cover both choices.

Use the “Sample Personalized Safety Plan for Domestic Violence Survivors” template that is located in the Topic 3 Resources to complete this assignment. When completing the template, record your answers as if you are the identified victim.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
