  • How do we hear?

How do we hear by our ears and what are main functions?

    Requirements:

  • Lab Seven (Exercise 9): Photosynthesis Capture of Light Ene…

    Discussion Prompt

In this lab, you investigated how light energy drives photosynthesis and how environmental conditions influence the rate of this process.

Part A Concepts (Use complete sentences):

    1. Describe the role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis. Why is chlorophyll green?
    2. Explain why light is required for the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis.
    3. Differentiate between the light-dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle (light-independent reactions).

    Part B Application & Analysis:

In the lab, leaf disks (or another plant sample) were exposed to different light conditions.

    Consider the following setup:

    • Beaker 1: High light intensity
    • Beaker 2: Low light intensity
    • Beaker 3: No light (dark condition)
    1. Predict what would happen to the rate of photosynthesis in each beaker.
    2. Explain how oxygen production is used as an indicator of photosynthetic activity.
    3. If the leaf disks in the dark did not float, explain why this occurs in terms of energy conversion.

    Part C Real-World Connection:

Choose one real-life example (greenhouses, seasonal plant growth, deforestation, crop production, indoor plant care, climate change, or aquatic ecosystems).

Explain how light availability affects photosynthesis and why this is important for ecosystems and food production.

  • Writing the Discussion and Methods Section

you will write a comprehensive Results section for your

independent project. The Results section must be a minimum of 5 pages (double-spaced,

Times New Roman, 12 pt font, 1-inch margins) and should reflect the style and standards of

    peer-reviewed scientific papers.

Your Results must present your findings in a clear, objective, and organized manner, directly

aligned with your research questions and objectives. All data must be summarized in text and

supported by tables and figures, but you should not repeat the same data in multiple formats.

Each research question or objective must be supported by at least one table and one or two

figures, with proper captions and references in the text.

you will write a comprehensive Discussion section for your

senior thesis research project. The Discussion must be a minimum of five (5) pages (double-

spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt, 1-inch margins) and must meet the stylistic and analytical

standards of peer-reviewed scientific papers. This section is where you interpret your

findings, explain their significance, and connect them to your research questions, objectives,

and existing scientific literature. Your writing should demonstrate critical reasoning,

scientific maturity, and the ability to integrate local and global environmental perspectives.

All claims must be supported by peer-reviewed evidence and properly cited

    using APA format.

  • Osmosis worksheet

To complete this lab, you will need to complete all of the following by Tuesday, February 24th:

    1. Read ‘Intro to Osmosis’
    2. Complete the ‘Determine the Tonicity of Solutions’ questions (1 pt) (add these answers to your Google Doc below
    3. Complete the (19 pts) (Note: This is a Google doc, so to edit it, you must first make a copy. To do this, go to the ‘File’ tab in the upper left-hand menu, then select ‘Make a copy’, and you will be able to edit your copy. Then you can either submit the link (be sure the access is set so I can view it!), or use the same file menu to download a PDF or Word document to submit.

  • Case #7: Skin Color Around the World

Case #7: Skin Color Around the World

Around the world, populations near the equator and in areas of high altitude have darker skin (their skin produces more melanin). Populations at northern latitudes have lighter skin- their skin produces less melanin.

    1. What forces of evolution are at work? Tick all that apply.

    ___ Mutation

    ___ Natural Selection

    ___ Genetic Drift

    ___ Gene Flow

    2. Specifically, how is natural selection involved?

    3. Explain how the forces of evolution shift allele frequencies in the population over time. Your answer should include all of the forces of evolution that you identified as being employed (above). Put this information into a narrative to explain how new traits are introduced, how individuals are selected (if present), and how alleles in the population shift over time.
