  • Research Project 2

Complete your Research Project 2 in a Word document, APA formatted, and then submit it in the Assignment section of the classroom by midnight, EST, Day 7. The instructions concerning this assignment as well as the grading rubric are reproduced below. In 2009 the American auto industry was in a dire economic state. Chrysler was in Chapter 11, GM was on the brink of bankruptcy, and Ford’s future was at best uncertain. The demise of the U.S. auto industry would have a devastating impact on our national economy and specifically the economies of Michigan and Ohio. Economists occasionally use Porter’s five forces framework when making a qualitative evaluation of a firm’s strategic position. According to Porter, his model should be used at the industry level, defined as a marketplace in which similar or closely related products or services are marketed. This research paper requires the application of Porter’s Five Forces Model to the auto industry. Porter’s analytical framework consists of those forces that affect a producer’s ability to serve its customers and make a profit. A change in any of these five forces requires a re-assessment of the marketplace. The five forces include: 1) The threat of substitute products: The existence of close substitute products (i.e., high elasticity of demand) increases the propensity of customers to switch to alternatives in response to price increases. 2) The threat of the entry of new competitors: Unless there are significant barriers to entry, profitable markets that yield high returns will attract firms (i.e., perfect competition), effectively decreasing profitability. 3) The intensity of competitive rivalry: As in the case of oligopoly markets, rivals may choose to compete aggressively, non-aggressively or in non-price dimensions. 4) The bargaining power of customers: The ability of customers to put the firm under pressure due to availability of existing substitute products, buyer price sensitivity, uniqueness of the products, etc. 5) The bargaining power of suppliers: The cost of factors of production (e.g. labor, raw materials, components, and services such as expertise) provided by suppliers can have a significant impact on a company’s profitability. As such suppliers may refuse to work with the firm or charge excessively high prices for unique resources. References Porter, M.E. Your paper needs to include at least three scholarly sources, i.e. peer reviewed articles. I strongly recommend the use of the APUS library for these sources, as most acceptable resources can only be found in protected databases. Your paper should be about 10 double spaced pages, in APA format, and structured as follows: 1. Cover page with a running head 2. Abstract 3. Introduction to the Auto Industry 3.1. Industry Definition 3.2. Industry Profile 3.3. Industry Market Structure 3.4. Future Outlook 4. Porter’s Five Forces Strategy Analysis as it applies to the Auto Industry 4.1. Bargaining Power of Buyers 4.2. Bargaining Power of Suppliers 4.3. Competitive Rivalry in the Industry 4.4. Threat of New Entrants 4.5. Threat of Substitutes 5. Conclusion 6. References

  • Recognizing Markets and Circular Flows

Recognizing Markets and Circular Flows Submit the assignment by 11:59 PM PT Sunday of Module 1. During our daily living in a market-based economic system, each of us consumes goods and services and we own the resources used in their production. We provide land, labor, and capital to businesses and receive payments for those resources. In this assignment, you will design a graphic depicting the circular flows between businesses and households and between resources and product markets. Then, you will write a 1- to 2-page analysis of how you operate in both the resource market and the goods/services market during any typical day. Step 1 Review the module readings, videos, and discussion. Then, use the ACE LibraryLinks to an external site. and other scholarly or professional sources to conduct additional research focusing on an analysis of the circular flow model. Step 2 Imagine yourself as a daily participant working and playing in the economy. Using your research and analysis, construct a original digital illustration depicting a circular flow model illustrating the flows between businesses and households and between resources and product markets. Step 3 Write an analysis referring to the illustration and explaining how you: provide a resource, earn compensation from this provision, purchase and consume goods and services with this compensation, and utilize the circular flow model. Include APA-formatted in-text citations from at least two scholarly or professional sources to support your analysis. Step 4 Submit your APA-formatted title page, 1- to 2-page analysis, your circular flow model illustration, and a reference page.

After watching the and reading the Law360 Expert Analysis article on how to manage cyber risk, do the following:

    • Conduct Internet research and identify a company, other than Colonial Pipeline, that was recently held for Cyber-ransom of any kind.
    • Identify the company, why it was held ransom & what could/should have prevented it.
    • Did the company pay a ransom?
    • Who was responsible for the decision to pay/not pay?
    • Was the decision to pay ethical? (To pay or not to pay)

    • One simple search on cyber-ransom and hundreds of articles show up. The company I am choosing is Long Island Plastic Surgical Group. This incident occurred from January 4th to January 8th, 2024. The group that claimed responsibility was the radar threat group. It took the company until September 15, 2024, to confirm that social security numbers, drivers licenses, and State ID numbers, passports, financial data, medical information, and clinical photographs were all taken.
    • Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIPSG) could have made sure that it had adequate security measures in place to protect clients’ sensitive information. They should have had training on things like phishing, baited emails, and general cybersecurity
    • One website says that the ransom was paid, while another says it was not. A second hacker company called ALPHV Threat Group was said to be working together with The Radar Threat Group (RTG). RTG claims that ALPHV was paid but did not receive its portion from ALPHV. A Second threat was then made by RTG to prevent the data from being leaked, and it was then seized by the FBI.
    • If it was paid, then it was more than likely decided by a board vote. Gary Blank is the current Chairman of the Board.
    • One source says that the ransom amount was $500,000USD. If they did pay it, then it would show that it is easy to push these companies into a corner once you get certain information. On the other hand, it is extremely hard to judge just how valuable 161 thousand different files can be when they can destroy lives.

    French – Week 4

    • Hello Class,
    • It is astonishing to see all of the different cyber ransom attacks on companies over the years. I had no idea that there were actual formed cyber groups that do these things on a regular basis. Today I am discussing the cyber ransom attack on JBS USA, a meat processing company that supplies approximately 1/5th of the meat to the entire world. Although it is not clear on the motive behind why they were chosen for this attack, there were still measures that could have been taken to minimize the threat of an attack happening. The company did end up paying the ransom. They paid $11 Million in bitcoin to the cyber group known as “REvil”. It was a group decision by the top representatives in the company to pay the ransom, but it still came with a lot of criticism. I agree with the criticism surrounding the decision to pay it, as many were saying that paying the ransom only incentivizes the group or other groups to attack more in the future. It is the same as rewarding a kid for bad behavior, they will just be more inclined to do it again if it worked out in their favor the first time. It also raises concerns on why they paid the ransom to keep information of getting out. Almost as if they are hiding information that they did not want the public to know about how they operate and what all goes into the meat processing industry that ultimately ends up in millions of Americans homes.

  • Interoffice Memo

The following memo is from an exasperated manager to her staff. Obviously, this manager does not have the time to clean up her writing or another set of eyes to review her written material before mailing it.

    From:

    Albertina Sindaha, Operations Manager

    To:

    All Employees

    Subject:

    Cleanup!

    Message

You were all supposed to clean up your work areas last Friday, but that didn’t happen. A few people cleaned their desks, but no one pitched in to clean the common areas.

So we’re going to try again. As you know, we don’t have a big enough custodial budget anymore. Everyone must clean up himself. This Friday I want to see action in the copy machine area, things like emptying waste baskets, and you should organize paper and toner supplies. The lunch room is a disaster area. You must do something about the counters, the refrigerator, the sinks, and the coffee machine. And any food left in the refrigerator on Friday afternoon should be thrown out because it stinks by Monday. Finally, the office supply shelves should be straightened.

If you can’t do a better job this Friday, I will have to make a cleaning schedule. Which I don’t want to do. But you may force me to.

    -Albertina Sindaha

Using the South University Online Library, research on the basics of interoffice memos. Based on your readings and understanding, create a 2- to 4-page Microsoft Word document that includes:

    • An assessment of the effectiveness of the memo with respect to its tone.
    • An analysis on the potential barriers to the successful communication of its intended message.
    • A revised memo with improved structure using polite and firm tone consistently.
