    Students participating in the WIL program will engage in a structured reflection process, focusing on their responsibilities, tasks, and experiences during their placement. By connecting the theoretical knowledge from previous courses with their work term experiences, students will explore personal learning outcomes based on Learning Objectives plan

    Objective

    The goal of the journal is to enhance the learning process by providing a space for students to analyze, reflect, and synthesize their experiences, relating them to the course’s learning objectives. The journal entries will also serve as a foundation for the final report at the end of the course.

    Requirements

    Frequency: 7 journal entries are required, distributed throughout the term (see course outline for details)

    Content: Each entry must contain a minimum of 1000 words, divided into 4 parts, following David Kolb’s model of experiential learning. Include at least 3 references (minimum of 2 academic sources), adhering to APA style. In-text citations must be included within the journal entry; failure to include proper in-text citations will result in the journal entry not being considered for evaluation.

    Entry Structure

    1. Concrete Experience (250 words) Describe the actions and behaviors you took during the work term. Use terms like “I saw,” “recorded,” “tried,” “reviewed,” etc., reflecting on engaging experiences.

    2. Reflection and Observation (250 words): Explain what you learned and why it happened, using terms like “I grasped,” “perceived,” “found,” etc.

    3. Principles – Academic Concepts (250 words): Link your experiences to what you’ve learned in previous business courses. Refer to relevant academic sources, theories, or the seven core management skills as your guide.

    4. Future Application (250 words) Reflect on how you can apply what you’ve learned in the future or act differently, using phrases like “next time I will,” “new approaches would be,” etc.

The plastic containers are blow-molded, while the metal cap is made using a process called deep drawing. The manufacturing of this product can be improved. As a lean practitioner who recently joined the Change team of this organization, you have been tasked to review this Value Stream Map and identify areas of improvement. For this assignment, you need to write a report that must include the following:

    • Analyse the process shown in Figure 1 by identifying process wastes and classifying these;
    • Discuss the potential impact of all identified wastes on the organization;
    • Develop recommendations by identifying and discussing opportunities for appropriate Lean techniques to be applied and how these wastes can be reduced or eliminated to increase value;
    • Discuss what the Senior Management team needs to provide to create an environment conducive to the implementation of Lean to support the organizations continuous improvement program.
