Read and consider the two philosophical passages below. Gloria Jean Watkins, better known by her pen name bell hooks, was an American author, theorist, educator, and social critic who was a distinguished professor in residence at Berea College. After reading the following two passages, complete your journal entry by reflecting upon and discussing the questions that follow. Passage one by hooks (1999): It is no accident that when we first learn about justice and fair play as children it is usually in a context where the issue is one of telling the truth. The heart of justice is truth telling, seeing ourselves and the world the way it is rather than the way we want it to be. In recent years sociologists and psychologists have documented the fact that we live in a nation where people are lying more and more each day. Passage two by hooks (2006): Without an ethic of love shaping the direction of our political vision and our radical aspirations, we are often seduced, in one way or the other, into continued allegiance to systems of dominationimperialism, sexism, racism, classism. It has always puzzled me that women and men who spend a lifetime working to resist and oppose one form of domination can be systematically supporting another. I have been puzzled by powerful visionary black male leaders who can speak and act passionately in resistance to racial domination and accept and embrace sexist domination of women, by feminist white women who work daily to eradicate sexism but who have major blind spots when it comes to acknowledging and resisting racism and white supremacist domination of the planet. Critically examining these blind spots, I conclude that many of us are motivated to move against domination solely when we feel our self-interest directly threatened . . . If we are only committed to an improvement in that politic of domination that we feel leads directly to our individual exploitation or oppression, we not only remain attached to the status quo but act in complicity with it, nurturing and maintaining those very systems of domination. Until we are all able to accept the interlocking, interdependent nature of systems of domination and recognize specific ways each system is maintained, we will continue to act in ways that undermine our individual quest for freedom and our collective liberation struggle. Answer each of the questions below, supporting your answers by providing details. Discuss how truth-telling connects to your own life. Consider personal beliefs or values, past experiences with truth, lies, misinformation, and examples from this course. Explain the claim presented about justice and evaluate its reasoning. Then review your own reasoning and critically examine possible influences on your beliefs. Does the pursuit of truth relate to a moral life? Does it relate to creating a fair and just society? Explain your answers. How do you see your own personal responsibility in these matters?

Walmart periodically increases wages for all its employees. Its wages are higher than the federal minimum wage but still below the hourly rate recommended by labor activist groups. Walmart has been increasing employee wages incrementally and will most likely continue to do so, but as it does, labor activists will continue to raise their recommended minimums to keep pace with the cost of living. Respond to the following questions using credible sources from your own research: Does Walmart raise wages because of supply and demand in the labor market or because of the pressure of labor activist organizations? Explain your reasoning based on Walmarts wage increase history. Should Walmart raise wages to match what labor activists are calling for? Why or why not? Should the government raise the minimum wage? If so, to what level? Provide and cite current research to support your answer. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed in each short paper: Main Elements. Describe the main elements and requirements and cite examples to illustrate each element. Inquiry and Analysis. Provide in-depth analysis that demonstrates a complete understanding of concepts. Explain how you reached your conclusions by using clear and relevant examples from credible research. Integration and Application. Correctly apply the concepts discussed in the module corresponding with the assignment. Critical Thinking. Draw informed conclusions that are justified with evidence. Research. SWOT Analysis Assignment – Remember we are using the same company you chose last week for all assignments!

Listen to the SWOT Analysis Lecture to learn more about a SWOT Analysis!!!

As part of your marketing plan you will need to complete a SWOT analysis for your chosen company. For this assignment you will prepare a SWOT analysis. Strengths and Weaknesses are internal factors that the company controls. These factors are related to the companies management team, research and development activities, manufacturing capabilities, the companies product line, brand name, distribution efforts, financial situation, market share, sales organization, supply chain management, etc. Strengths are factors you excel at and can leverage. Weaknesses are factors you need to improve.

Opportunities and Threats are external to the firm and you do not control. Though you do not control these factors you can plan for them and take advantage of opportunities and mitigate the threats. Opportunities and Threats is information from your environmental search. These factors are related to competitors and their activities, changes in technology, social trends, changes in the economy, and government regulations. Be sure you have a bullet point in the SWOT matrix for all five environmental uncontrollable factors!!! If you insert a point as an opportunity or threat that you control it is either a strength or a weakness, not an opportunity or a threat.

For example, building a website is not an opportunity, if you don’t have one it is a weakness. If you suggest they can expand their distribution as an opportunity, this is something they can control, so it is not an opportunity, it is an weakness.

First prepare the SWOT matrix and insert bullet points related to each quadrant, then start a new page and provide a written analysis of these factors. As you complete this assignment it can be included in your marketing plan. I have provided a SWOT matrix in Canvas that you can download. Be sure you are including your narrative in addition to the Matrix. Invest time in this as this will then complete one portion of your marketing plan project.

Remember you are to add this section to the Marketing Plan file you started last week. Insert new Headings of SWOT analysis, Insert sub-headings of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats and insert your narrative under each respective sub-heading. Be sure to insert a SWOT model image with your bullets inserted into the model. Note there is a sample of this model attached here.

Please note all assignments have a grading rubric so look over the rubric to see how this assignment will be graded.

Due Sunday, February 15th by midnight.

Global ProTech Conflict Management Training Webinar

It has recently come to your attention that many HR directors and managers are shying away from getting involved in conflict situations. You realize that this is natural. Conflict is difficult. However, you know that it is essential that HR professionals not only model conflict management and conflict resolution but also have a healthy attitude about workplace situations that require guidance. You decide to develop a webinar about 30 minutes long to share with people in HR positions throughout Global ProTech. From some of the members on your team, you have heard that examples work best, so you have decided to not only share evidence-based information but also scenarios from your experience. You create your webinar in the form of a narrated PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes and a list of your resources so that staff who cannot attend will have the benefit of your thinking and you can post it on the company website. Your supervisor has approved the following outline for your presentation.

  • Bible and the World of Business Assignment

Here is a breakdown of how to hit the “Advanced” marks in every category:

    1. Biblical Integration (65 Points Total)

The core of this assignment is your ability to connect scripture to professional practice.

    • Selection: Choose 3 distinct Bible verses that are “contextually relevant.” Don’t just pick famous verses; pick ones that speak to specific business functions (e.g., stewardship, honest scales/integrity, or servant leadership).
    • Application: You must move beyond just quoting the verse. Discuss the specific business principles found within them. For example, if you use Colossians 3:23, discuss how “working for the Lord” changes a managers approach to quality control or employee motivation.

    2. Deep Discussion & Truth (40 Points)

The rubric asks for a discussion on the importance of applying Biblical truth in business.

    • Critical Thinking: Your argument should be logical and insightful. Dont just say “it’s good to be Christian at work.” Instead, analyze how Biblical truth provides a competitive advantage, ethical stability, or a foundation for sustainable corporate social responsibility.

    3. Length and Sources (20 Points)

This is where many students lose easy points.

    • Word Count: Ensure your submission is at least 2,500 words. This does not include your cover page or reference list. If you are short, expand your analysis of the peer-reviewed sources.
    • Source Minimums: You must include:
    • The Bible.
    • The course textbook.
    • 10 or more peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
    • Integration: Dont just list the sources at the end; they must be “well integrated” (cited) throughout your narrative to support your claims.

    4. APA Format & Organization (25 Points)

At this level, your formatting must be nearly flawless.

    • Current APA Style: Use a professional cover page, running heads (if required by current manual), page numbers, and clear level-headings to organize your thoughts.
    • Flow: Use “strong, clear and varied transitions.” Each paragraph should lead logically into the next. Use headings like Biblical Principles in Leadership or The Role of Integrity in Marketing to keep the reader on track.
