Instructions/Suggestions for your Research paper: (FIND ATTACHED THE TOPIC IN THE WORD DOCUMENT)
No fewer than 4 full pages, no more than 6. Students may choose their own topic, however, The instructor will provide a list of recommended research paper topics. Students are encouraged to consult with the instructor for their individual topic selection, title editing, and the search for academically valid sources. You must have at least 10 separate sources outside of your text.
The topic and title will be approved by the instructor by the end of week 4. Late submission may influence the ultimate term paper grade. After the end of week 5, any change of the topic or a modification of the title will be approved by the instructor. After the end of week 6, the topic cannot be changed; for minor editing of the title, after the end of week 5, consult your instructor.
Papers must include a reference page of at least ten separate current scholarly resources (Wikipedia is not considered a scholarly resource). MLA or APA format must be used. Also required are a cover sheet and a table of contents. The paper (not including cover page, table of contents, reference page, or appendices) must be a minimum of 4 pages but not more than 6 pages. Use proper grammar and check spelling. Grades will be on quality, not quantity. For their own protection, students are expected to save any original copy on every assignment that is sent to the instructor.
The term paper preparation and submission will follow two steps:
By the end of week 4, each student will submit the following in one document:
a.) The ultimate title of his/her paper relevant to the course subject matter and its learning outcomes.
b.) A brief thesis/argument paragraph along with a rough outline of the report.
c.) A list of at least 3 research sources (a preliminary Works-Cited page); it is recommended to use at least one book resource, in addition to the online databases accessible via the library web page and any other academically valid web sources. Wikipedia is NOT an academically valid website.
By the beginning of week 11, each student will submit a hard copy of the completed report. Please note: Humphreys Library & Learning Center offers both individual and group consultations on college level research writing. They also offer regular workshops on How to Succeed in College that you can earn extra credit for attending. For more information, contact your instructor.
