  • SMART Goals

Milestone Activity: Creating SMART Goals Listen Hide Assignment Information TurnitinTM TurnitinTM enabledThis assignment will be submitted to TurnitinTM. Instructions Create a SMART Goal for yourself to succeed in MyPath or in another area of your life. Explain why the goal you wrote is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time framed. SMART Goals Introduction In order to be successful, it is helpful to know where you want to go and how to get there. Piggybacking on the time management unit, it can be difficult to make time to set goals, but setting goals can also save you time and help you to prioritize. Keep in mind that it helps to set goals that you are really motivated to achieve. SMART is an acronym to help you set clear goals. SMART goals are: S = Specific – describe what you want to accomplish in as much detail as possible. For example, you may have a goal of getting promoted to a new position or getting a new job when you graduate, but that is not specific enough. Try something like, I would like to be promoted to senior financial analyst at my current company, Or I would like to get a job as a financial analyst at a finance firm that offers generous health care benefits and room for long-term growth. M = Measurable – describes your goal so that you can evaluate whether you have achieved it. For example, saying that you want to do well is not measurable, but saying something like, I want to achieve exemplary or proficient on 95% or more of my competencies is measurable. A = Attainable – the goal is reasonable and within your ability to accomplish. For example, a goal of winning a lottery is a nice dream, but not an attainable goal. Try something like, My goal is to set aside $150 a month for savings. R = Relevant – your goal is clearly applicable to what you really hope to achieve. For example, if you hope to obtain a job as a financial analyst, you might say that you plan to interview someone that holds that role to learn more about it. An irrelevant goal might be to leave your current job as soon as possible. Maybe you are unhappy in your current position, but you want to work toward the financial analyst goal rather than away from your current situation. T = Time Framed – describe the specific target completion time – longer goals that take significant time should be broken down into smaller chunks. An example would be to obtain a new job within 6 months of graduation, and you could break that down to completing your resume and searching positions 2 months before graduation as a first step and proceed with other chunks to get you to your final goal. If you say that you want to obtain a job after graduation, that is vague and not time framed. The words, SMART Goal Examples: #1 Example Bad I want to be rich someday. Better I want to retire at age 40 with $1 million dollars in savings Best By age 40, I want to retire with $1 million dollars in my investment portfolio by buying my dads insurance agency and growing it to several offices. #2 Example Bad I will get good grades. I want a 4.0 GPA Better I want to earn a 4.0 this semester by studying at least 45 minutes every weeknight. Best I want to earn a 93% or better this semester in Algebra by studying every weeknight and completing all homework. Key Takeaways SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-framed SMART goals can help you stay focused and motivated to achieve success. References Baldwin et al., (Ed). • Business Plan 30, 60, 90

Please update per notes here to reflect my resume and my key performances / skills and achievements.

    Specifically –

One piece of strategic advice: since youre not in the seat yet, Id pull back on proposing specific numbers like revenue targets or meeting counts. If Kevins expectation is 30 meetings and you propose 15, it might unintentionally signal a gap in activity. Conversely, if you propose 40, it might look like you don’t understand the complexity of the sale yet.

Instead, keep the plan focused on your process and coachability. High-level goals like mastering the CRM, shadowing top performers, and aligning with Kevins specific methodology are “safe wins.”

What is most important is continuing to provide measurable and documentable results from your past work. If you haven’t already, sit down and write a list of all your achievements. As a sales manager, hes going to want to hear what you have done; you can then use this plan as a general bridge. Remember, since Kevin is tasked with leading sales, youll ultimately be implementing his plan. Use this document to show youre a high-performance engine ready for him to get behind the wheel.

To show him you are data-driven without overstepping, I recommend including these “Discovery & Alignment” questions in your plan or notes to ask him during the interview:

On Activity: “Based on your most successful reps, what is the ‘golden ratio’ of prospecting activities to booked meetings youd like to see?”

On Strategy: “What do you consider the primary ‘leading indicator’ of success in this territoryis it the volume of new leads or the velocity of deals moving through the funnel?”

On Methodology: “Ive outlined my approach to training; are there specific methodologies or ‘Kevin-isms’ I should prioritize mastering in my first 30 days?”

On Reporting: “How do you prefer to see your reps report on weekly progress? I want to ensure my documentation style aligns with your visibility needs.”

On Team Contribution: “Once Ive integrated into the workflow, what is the biggest challenge the region is facing that I can help take off your plate?”

  • Contested Place

First complete the assigned reading and video for this Module, then address these questions as a single thread in this forum:

    1. What is being contested and what parties are involved in the conflict, as recorded in the classic documentary film Broken Rainbow? What expressive and communicative techniques does a documentary film like this use to present the material that a Social Sciences article might not be able to? How does the film evoke a sense of place? How does it move our emotions & our sense of justice?
    2. Burkhard Bilger offers an interdisciplinary perspective to a contested building in the “Mystery on Pearl Street.” First briefly summarize the dispute. Then choose one of the disciplines he uses–Law, History, Architectural History, Business–and tell us what perspective you think this discipline offers on the issue? Please support your statements with evidence from the article in the form of quotes, paraphrases & summaries, with citations.
    3. Third, tell us about a dispute over a specific place that you are aware of–it can be a conflict over the fate of a building, the use of a piece of land, forest, river, mountain, etc. Use something specific, rather than a large international dispute or a war. You may need to do some research for this question.

    Posting Requirements

This discussion requires one initial response to the question(s) above as well as a response to one of your peers. Additional replies are encouraged, but they are neither required nor graded. Your original post should be at least 500 words and no more than 700 words, and your peer response should be no less than 100 words each. Youll be able to see a running word count as you type in the text box. Try to respond early if you can so that your classmates have enough posts to reply to. Feel free to “like” posts even if you do not respond to them. You do not need to include bibliographic citations at the end of your post.

  • Essay on Cather

    General Assignment Description:

Length: 1,000-2,000 words (about three pages). Please observe the length requirement: no shorter and not significantly longer.

For this assignment, you will write an essay on the following question: How does Willa Cather create a sense of place in her 1925 novel The Professor’s House? The essay should include supporting evidence from the novel and application of course concepts and insights about place-experience from the first 4 modules of LST 470.

    1. Please include the following aspects of place-experience in your discussion:

    • Place-meanings for different social, cultural, and/or religious groups
    • Place-description through colors, shapes, and other sensory experience
    • Movement across the landscape, from place to place, or connection to place

    2. Support your analysis with evidence from the novel, including a few select quotes.

    3. Apply and demonstrate understanding of course concepts and insights about understanding place from Modules 1-4 in LST 470.

    4. Essays should draw on Cathers novel and on course resources, not on outside sources. All paraphrases and quotes from Cather and course resources must have in-text parenthetical citations with author and page number in MLA or APA style, with Works Cited or References at the end of the paper. Use whichever of the two styles you are more comfortable with. (Note: if you use APA, I don’t want an Abstract.)

    5. Paper should be 1,000 words minimum, 2,000 words maximum, double-spaced in 12 pt font with 1 inch margins, in Times New Roman. Use in-text citations and a reference list (a title page and reference list do not count toward the assignment minimum). Please revise, edit, and proof for format, organization, fluency, mechanics, diction, spelling, and tone.

    6. Please write in your own words, using quotes only to support your statements, not in place of them. All quotes must be placed in quotation marks; and all quotes, paraphrases and summaries from sources must be cited using parenthetical, in-text citations (author and page number in parentheses for MLA) (author, date and p. number in parentheses for APA). Quotes should not comprise more than 20% of any paper.

NOTE: Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated: possible consequences include receiving a zero for the assignment, an E for the Course, or an XE for the course. See the Syllabus statement on Academic Integrity and AI Policy.
