  • Teacher Toolkit

    Part 1: Toolkit

Create a teacher toolkit using an online tool of your choice (e.g., Padlet, Trello, OneNote) and reflect on its use. Throughout this course and your future coursework, you will have opportunities to add artifacts to your toolkit. Your teacher toolkit must include the following:

    • A clearly labeled structure for organizing future toolkit artifacts into at least five categories that you will be able to refer to when you step into your role as a classroom teacher, such as, standards, learning objectives, assessments, instructional strategies, differentiation, communication, professional development, etc. Include at least five categories.
    • For each category, create placeholders for a minimum of two artifacts. An artifact can be an assignment you completed in class, or resources in the form of articles, blog posts, and other helpful information you come across during your program. Your goal will be to add these artifacts throughout the remainder of the coursework in your program.
    • A minimum of two assignments you created in this course and two additional resources must be added to the toolkit as artifacts before submitting.

    Part 2: Reflection

In 200-350 words, reflect on the use of the teacher toolkit created. Include the following in your reflection:

    • Description of how your teacher toolkit was structured and a justification for the structure.
    • Explanation of how your teacher toolkit can be used to prepare for or support you in your future professional practice.
    • Discussion of how this teacher toolkit can support collaboration with colleagues locally in your school and globally outside your community.

Note: Future coursework assignments will be suggested as artifacts to add to your toolkit. The artifacts you add in future courses are for your professional practice and will not be submitted as part of your graded assignment.

Submit a link to your toolkit and reflection in a single document.

Ensure that others can access and view your toolkit link prior to submitting the assignment.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

  • Instructional Models and Strategies

instructional models apply learning theories to the selection of instructional strategies in a manner that will improve planning and differentiation, leading to increased student success. Understanding how various teaching models and strategies were designed to reach students and allow for multiple ways to represent the material allows teachers to adjust their teaching styles and adapt to their students specific needs in the classroom.

Utilize the Instructional Models and Strategies template to complete the topic assignment.

Part 1: Analyzing Instructional Models and Strategies

For each evidence-based instructional model/strategy include the following information:

    • A brief description of the model/strategy.
    • An example of how you would implement the model/strategy into your classroom instruction.

In addition to the chart, identify one learning theory and in 100-150 words explain how an instruction model or strategy discussed in the chart supports the theory.

Note: You may refer to the Cognitive Theorists and Theories interactive media piece.

    Part 2: Application

Using the ELA and math standard you chose in Topic 2, provide the following information for each standard:

    • Standard: The full standard verbiage and grade level.
    • Learning Objective: Use the same learning objectives chosen in the Topic 4 Differentiation Bank assignment.
    • Below and Above Grade Level Standards: Identify the below grade level standard that can be reviewed as prior knowledge and the above grade level standard that your standard works towards and can be used to extend students learning.
    • Activity Explanation: Identify an evidenced-based instructional model/strategy from Part 1 to represent the material being learned and explain an activity that implements the model/strategy to support students in mastering the learning objective.
    • Rationale of Alignment: Explain how the activity supports the standard and aligned learning objective.
    • Differentiation: Explain how the activity can be differentiated for students performing below and above grade level.

Support your template with a minimum of two scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Third Grade RL.3: Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

Third Grade NBT.A.1: Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

  • Discussion activity

    1. Watch the following video clips that illustrate different types of early childhood (EC) programs.
    2. Describe what connections you observe between the video clips and the concepts discussed in the assigned readings.
    3. Also reflect on any understandings, insights, or ideas from the videos and readings that you would like to apply to your current or future teaching practices.

create a response to this as well:

I see a strong connection between the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches because both focus on child-led learning through exploration. In these classrooms, teachers take on the role of observers and guides, providing materials and support rather than direct instruction. Both methods are less rigid and emphasize discovery, play, and hands-on learning. The HighScope and Waldorf approaches share similar ideas, as they are also student-centered and encourage active engagement. Waldorf education places a strong emphasis on creativity and learning from the surrounding environment, while Montessori encourages practical life skills such as gardening and meaningful interaction with nature. I am most drawn to the Montessori approach because I believe children learn best when they are free to explore and lead their own learning. I also appreciate the calm, neutral classroom environments used in Montessori settings, which help prevent overstimulation and include carefully chosen materials. While the approach allows freedom, it still maintains structure through clear boundaries and expectations. This balance allows students to explore their curiosity while teachers provide guidance and support.
