  • Impact of Ethos

    Prompt:

Discuss the impact of ethos on your judgment of one of the candidates of this last Presidential election. How do such things as appearance, punctuality, disposition, body language, prior speech performances, topic selection, participation in debate, etc. contribute to forming strong or weak credibility?

Remember to uphold a scholarly yet analytical tone in your post. This is not a discussion assignment in which you can project and advocate your political views but to critically analyze and assess the concepts mentioned in the prompt. Be respectful of diverse political views.

  • Annotated Bibliography- Wealth Gap in America

    Annotated Bibliography Assignment

To prepare you for the next assignment, the community problem report, youll need to do some research. One of the more useful tools in conducting research is the annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography combines the citations found in the References list at the end of documents in APA format with annotations about each of the sources. For this assignment, you will construct an annotated bibliography based upon the community issue or problem that you have selected to focus on for the semester. (Wealth Gap in America)

Purpose: An annotated bibliography is an organizing tool that is helpful when working on a research project. An effective annotated bibliography is used to compile research sources in one location and provide the researcher with quick access to the information contained in each source.

Audience: This assignment should be directed at your scholarly peers, and you may assume that they have only a casual familiarity with your topic or issue.

Content/Subject: Your annotated bibliography will consist of the sources that you have deemed relevant to your topic and/or question(s) of inquiry. While you may encounter sources that are not relevant or do not fit the scope of your project while researching, for the purposes of this assignment, you will only include the ones that you find useful and relevant.

    1. Cite the source in proper APA format. The citations should be organized in alphabetical order by author just as in an APA References page.
    1. Follow with a brief annotation that summarizes the source (approx. 4-6 sentences). You cannot quote directly from the source and do not copy/paste the abstract. You should address the key findings of the source and how it ties into your other sources. You should also explain the sources relevance and importance to your issue. For example, does one study you cite apply to a certain demographic and your second source/study [although it has to do with the same topic], furthers the discussion because it looks at another demographic? You are essentially working on putting your sources in conversation with one another.

Constraints: The annotated bibliography is a fairly rigid genre. Your citations must adhere to APA format. This will be one of the central components of the grade for this assignment. Failure to follow APA format exactly will harm your grade.

The annotations for each source should follow an academic style. This means that you must construct, with elevated and sophisticated language, correct grammatical sentences that effectively summarize what each source has to say. Additionally, you should explain how each source is relevant to the issue that you have selected and what it adds to your knowledge about your issue.

Specific guidelines to follow when completing this assignment are:

    • Minimum of ten sources of various types (book, article, website, etc.).
    • Sources focused around a narrowed issue or question of inquiry.
    • All sources should be primary sources. No secondary or tertiary sources.
    • Adherence to APA format for all citations.
    • Sources in alphabetical order according to author.
    • Thoughtful and complete annotations
    • Correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Discussion 0.8

20.8 Discussion: Introductions/ What area of Psychology interests you the most? (Graded Discussion) – Group 2

Let’s use our first discussion as a way of getting to know each other. I’d also like to find out what areas of Psychology you find interesting and why.

Note: First discussion board! Think of discussion boards as a way of interacting and sharing ideas with classmates. Just like a class discussion in a face-to-face class, discussion boards are a way of putting out your ideas and current understanding of a concept and getting feedback about it. Just like in a face-to-face class, some of you might feel a bit self-conscious about contributing for the first time. I’m officially giving everyone permission to make mistakes on the board. You will not lose points for saying something “wrong.” As long as you are showing an honest effort to respond, and your response shows that you have read the relevant course content, you’ll get the points. This is also a way to help each other out by trading ideas and giving each other feedback. Hopefully we can get a bit of back on forth conversation going on some of these boards.

    Instructions

Respond to the prompt below by Friday, 4/10 to allow yourself and your classmates time to read and respond to each other before Sunday, 4/12

    • Introduce yourself and share one or two things about yourself that you would like others in the class to know.
    • After reading about the various areas of Psychology, discuss which area (or areas) you would most like to learn about, and explain why you are interested in these areas.
    • After reading about the various careers in Psychology, discuss which careers (if any) you would consider pursuing, and explain why (or why not) these careers appeal to you.

Post your response in the Reply box.

By Sunday at 11:59 pm, please reply to at least two classmate’s posts. In your post, welcome your classmate to the course, and do at least one of the following

    • comment on how their interests are similar to or different from yours.
    • ask a question about their post
    • respond to a question or comment that they made in their post

    Grading policies

    • You are expected to post your initial response to a discussion board prompt by the due date indicated on each discussion board. Late submissions will not receive credit unless you have a valid, documented reason for missing the due date.
    • You are also expected to reply to at least two postson the discussion board. These replies are part of the assignment. You will not receive full credit for the assignment unless you have a meaningful reply to at least two posts.
    • Making a submission that is substantially copied from an outside source without acknowledging the source is plagiarism. This is a violation of the student code of conduct. You will receive a zero for the assignment and may face other consequences, depending on the severity of the violation. The syllabus describes in detail the consequences for plagiarism.
    • I will reply to your posts on the discussion board but will not assign grades until the discussion board is complete, including replies to classmates.

    Guidelines for Reaction Papers

    Reaction Paper Guidelines

The reaction paper is your first intervention for this course. I believe these papers will help you develop more self-awareness. And this is crucial for your well-being and relationships. Your reaction paper should be based on watching/listening to the required pre-recorded lecture, which are below each Module. Reference a minimum of three journal articles (state title) and relate each to a personal experience in your reaction paper, which you write about. I do not want a summary or an explanation of a concept or theory, textbook chapter, or my lecture. Integrate journal articles, concepts, theories explained in my pre-recorded lectures to understand your personal experience.

One page or more is required to earn 10 points. Be open to the experience of developing your narrative identity, your evolving life story, by reacting with describing a personal experience. There is no particular format necessary. Font size should be 12. Acceptable font styles include Times New Roman, Ariel, or Courier. And your margins should be no more than 1. And double spaced.

  • The quants culture questions

After reading Deringer (2018). Calculated Values, Introduction.Answer the following questions

Q1: Deringer distinguishes between three explanations for why numbers and calculations hold authority in modern political life: as an instrument of control, an instrument of trust, and an instrument of dispute. In your own words, explain the difference between these three accounts.

Also, why does Deringer find the first two insufficient for explaining the rise of quantitative culture? Do you find his alternative argument convincing? Why or why not? (150200 words)

Q2: Think of a moment in your own economic or financial life when you were measured, scored, or evaluated by an algorithm or a quantitative system. Describe the experience briefly, then reflect on it through Deringer’s lens: Who produced that number, and what assumptions or choices went into it? Did the number feel objective and fair, or did you sense the judgment embedded in it? And finally, did it change your behavior in any way? Notes: You don’t need to answer each question separately, turn your reflections into a short account.

    Student Example DO NOT Copy

For this assignment, I have chosen to analyze a relationship that occurred in the past between myself and two of my close friends with whom I shared a sisterhood-like friendship. Though my relationship with them drifted quite some time ago, it was an important part of my life in terms of understanding empathy and emotional development. The reason behind this choice is the fact that our relationship involved surviving situations that would break most friendships. Our relationship was based on elevating each others self-respect. If one of us were dealing with emotions, whether due to being hurt by someone close or insecurity towards them, we would make light of the situation while acknowledging our emotions. We uplifted one another in a manner that reaffirmed our value, enabling each other to feel capable, respected, and cherished. While it was not easy to be vulnerable at times, we always displayed empathy, comprehending each others point of view without criticism. We were also mindful of conflict situations, examining both sides and emphasizing effective communication. Though we now take separate ways in life, the friendship has left us with positive memories to remember. It is evident that the end of a friendship does not necessarily need to be negative or end with any bitterness, but should leave room for personal development.

Another Student Example DO NOT Copy

For my relationship analysis paper, I have chosen a close friend who has consistently been an ego booster in my life. This friendship has helped enhance my self-esteem because they consistently make me feel accepted, competent, and appreciated. When I share accomplishments or struggles with them, they respond with encouragement and understanding, reinforcing a positive self-concept. Their support shows how our self-esteem is influenced by the feedback and communication we receive from others, illustrating that the self-concept is subjective and shaped socially.

I practice empathy and mindfulness in this friendship by intentionally listening and trying to understand their perspective without judgment. For example, when my friend faced a difficult decision at work, I focused on their feelings rather than offering solutions. I asked clarifying questions and reflected back their concerns to ensure they felt heard and validated. This process of synchronizing perceptions not only strengthens our communication but also maintains the quality of our relationship over time.

Differentiation plays a role in our friendship, as we each maintain our individuality while remaining connected. Recognizing our unique strengths and differences has made our relationship more resilient, demonstrating that healthy relationships support both shared connection and personal growth. This combination of empathy, mindfulness, and mutual support continues to enhance our bond and positively impact my self-esteem.

Another Student Example DO NOT Copy

For my relationship analysis, I am focusing on my close friend Alonso, who has been a wonderful ego booster in my life. Alonso makes me feel important and capable by always noticing my hard work and giving me sincere compliments. Whenever I feel unsure of myself, Alonso points out my strengths, which helps me feel much more confident and worthwhile. This kind of support is a huge part of why our friendship is so strong and healthy.

To keep this relationship going, I use mindfulness and empathy every time we talk. Being mindful means I give Alonso my full attention. I put away my phone and really listen to what is being said without judging or interrupting. This helps me understand Alonsos feelings in the moment. I also use empathy to see things from Alonso’s perspective. If Alonso is having a hard day at work, I try to imagine how that stress feels so I can offer the right kind of comfort. By showing that I truly care and understand, I make sure our connection stays deep and positive. These simple habits of listening and caring help us stay “in sync” and ensure that we both feel appreciated and happy in our friendship.

  • Final Team Project Guidelines

    Project Goals

Each class member will recruit and select two or three other class members to work on a literature review that addresses an organizational problem (max group size is 4 members). Your self-organized team will work to select an organizational problem of interest to the whole team and then conduct academic research and write a literature review that shows how the academic literature might inform such a problem. The project proposal at the end of this document must be submitted and approved.

The final project will be graded based on the following:

    • Project topic proposal
    • Final presentation
    • Group peer evaluations

Through successful completion of the project, you will:

    • Develop your ability to synthesize research in a productive way.
    • Explore a new area of interest.
    • Challenge your critical thinking skills.
    • Learn how to find academic information on a specific topic.
    • Develop your oral presentation skills.
    • Gain practice in preparing a useful and coherent document, which shows your organizational and writing skills.
    • Give you a product for your portfolio of which you can be proud.

When developing your literature review, you might consider answering the following questions:

    • What theory provides some explanation for the problem being explored?
    • What are the relationships between the theoretical constructs/topics that have been identified in empirical research? What relationships are still being explored?
    • What are the implications of these findings for practitioners? How does knowledge of the theory and research findings help solve the problem?
    • What additional issues, situations or relationships might new research explore?

    Selecting a Topic

There are many topics relevant to managing communication. Your topic does not need to be something on the course syllabus, as long as it is generally relevant to managing communication. Once you have ideas for a topic, however, you should have it approved by your instructor.

Some questions to keep in mind:

    • What, specifically, do I want to get out of this project?
    • Does it interest me? Can I sustain interest in it?Is the topic something I can get others interested in?
    • Will this help me in my career goals? Will it help me develop specific skills (such as interviewing, research, or other skills)? Will it give me something for my portfolio? Will it get me some useful contacts?
    • Is the topic something for which there is sufficient published information available? Is it narrowly defined enough that I can do a thorough job on it without writing a book?
    • Who is the target audience for the work and what are its needs and expectations? Hint: Your target audience is not your professor.

Suggestions for arriving at a topic:

    • Identify a problem that a company is facing. For instance, perhaps you read a news article about how a company is losing good employees. What might the research say about potential explanations for this problem and how to remedy it?
    • Look for a new technology or trend that might be influencing how organizations operate. For example, online learning is changing the way that universities operate. What are the implications of these changes for an organization and how might a university prepare themselves to navigate such changes effectively?
    • Select a process and look at how it might be influenced by communication. An example might be the use of computer-mediated communication (CMC) in the coordination of social movements. You might ask What are the implications of using the internet and email in mobilizing activists?

Once youve selected a topic, youll need to generate a specific research question to help guide your research. This question should also inform the organization of the literature review that you write.

    Conducting Research

Once a topic has been selected, you need to conduct research on your topic and synthesize what the research says.

What does the research say about this topic?

    • Most issues that organizations deal with have been addressed, at least in some capacity by management and organization researchers, and thus have been published in academic journals and books.
    • Your bibliography should include only academic articles that address your topic area. Examples of academic journals can be found in the Course Resources tab. Note: Wikipedia is not an academic source.

What are the implications of your findings for practice?

    • How should managers handle this type of issue?
    • How should communication practices change, or be implemented to address the issue?
    • How can both areas of research inform each other?
    • What was missing from the research you found?

    Team Management

Choose your team carefully. Prepare criteria, interview possible team members, and recruit good prospects. If you make a poor choice, it reflects on your selection procedure. Remember, you must live with the choices you make.

Organize your team/effort in whatever way you like, but do it consciously. If you want to be leaderless, choose that optiondon’t just let it happen. Too often the organization is haphazard and dysfunctional for team process and product.

Plan well. Consider division of labor, control systems, evaluation systems, reward systems, and so on. Be creative and resourceful. Prepare a planning chart and use it as a check on your progress.

You must work in a team. Many management projects require teamwork. Treat this project as a forum for learning some skills in managing team activities. Synthesizing research effectively happens when individuals come together to share ideas about what theyve read and how research might be organized in an effective manner. If you dont talk to one another, your paper will reflect the lack of integrative thinking and synthesis required for this assignment.

    Paper

Your final paper should be in the range of 15-20 pages, and should have in the neighborhood of 35 academic references. You must utilize APA format. Please proof carefully for grammar, spelling, clarity and overall flow.

The project goals and objectives are to understand how the influence of teamwork, clarity, and structure could increase collective productivity/efficiency, especially in a remote setting. Hybrid work environments have become more common since COVID-19, and the goal is to support them and see them flourish. Hybrid work environments may offer a sense of comfort to individuals, can potentially benefit organizations due to low costs, and organizations can have the ability to protect them if equipped with the right tools. If done correctly, the organization will be able to continue growing.

The purpose of the final product is to leave practitioners with the knowledge on how to use practical frames for optimising communication in a hybrid work environment.

The research question for this study is: How does the alignment between task complexity and communication influence coordination and collective efficacy in hybrid teams?– productivity needs to be included in the post conference with/;plo Professor JD are you really working if we can’t see you? Do we trust you? Do you really work with children? – perception

Instead of treating the workers as an appendage to the machine, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld notes in his detailed analysis of the studies, the Hawthorne experiments brought to light ideas concerning motivational influences, job satisfaction, resistance to change, group norms, worker participation, and effective leadership. These were groundbreaking concepts in the 1930s. From the leadership point of view today, organizations that do not pay sufficient attention to people and cultural variables are consistently less successful than those that do. From the leadership point of view today, organizations that do not pay sufficient attention to people and the deep sentiments and relationships connecting them are consistently less successful than those that do. The change which you and your associates are working to effect will not be mechanical but humane.

Relevant sources – hybrid work or remote work

This is easier to read -Does the way teams communicate based on task difficulty affect how well they coordinate and how confident they feel in hybrid work settings?

This question originates from both academic literature and real-world practice . Recently, the idea of a flow state has become popular on social media platforms such as TikTok, where creators often discuss productivity, focus, and optimal work performance. In these conversations, flow is usually described as an individual experience of deep concentration and efficiency. However, the concept of flow also appears in collaborative creative environments, especially in music. In hip-hop, for example, multiple artists contribute verses to the same track while maintaining rhythm, timing, and lyrical consistency. This coordinated flow reflects a shared understanding among collaborators.

Similarly, in hybrid work environments, successful teamwork depends on more than individual productivity. Team members must communicate effectively to stay aligned on goals, expectations, and responsibilities. Our interest in this topic comes not only from existing research but also from our own experience working remotely while completing projects in an online class.

(social media productivity discussions/ real life work experiences / digital class)

Answering this research question is important because many organizations struggle with maintaining coordination when employees work remotely or in hybrid settings. Without clear communication practices, teams may experience confusion, delays, or reduced collaboration. By examining how communication aligns with task complexity, this research can provide insight into how teams can coordinate more effectively, maintain a shared workflow, and improve collaboration even when members are not physically in the same location. In traditional office environments, employees can easily ask questions or clarify instructions in person. In remote environments, however, maintaining that same level of coordination can be more challenging.

This research aims to identify communication strategies that help teams stay aligned and work effectively in hybrid environments. Specifically, we hope to learn how managers can structure communication to support collaboration and coordination. The goal is to develop a framework that organizations can use to improve communication practices, identify potential gaps, and implement strategies that benefit both the organization and its employees.

    Theory

Which theories apply to this topic? Does the theory suggest you will find something specific (hypotheses)? If so, what might it suggest?

The theories that fit into this topic are the Common Group Approach, Social Information Processing (SIP), and the Media Richness Approach. For this research project, we will mainly focus on the Common Group Approach while lightly touching on the other two theories. We aim to highlight how the Common Group Approach can influence and shape relationships and media channels.

The Common Group Approach emphasizes a collective identity and a ‘shared flow state’ within an organization, which directly leads to increased productivity. This theory explores how an individuals actions influence the broader organizations success. Similar to a human body where every organ must coordinate to function, this approach suggests that when team members understand their specific roles within the collective, the organization maintains stability and coordinationeven in a hybrid setting.
