    Heads-up

Two separate assignments are required to be submitted this week. This assignment is Assignment 1, which is the Leading a Virtual Team assignment. It involves choosing a fictional team scenario where you will insert yourself as the team lead. For Assignment 2, you will start on the road to completing your Week 7 PowerPoint presentation by providing some basic information.

    Instructions

For this assignment, you will assume the following role: Leader of a Virtual Team.

As the leader, you should be eager to design an A+ team. Earlier in this lesson, you learned the ten strategies needed for designing an A+ team, now you will apply those strategies to one of the scenarios that you selected from below. This fictional virtual team for which you are the leader is in the first stage of group developmentformingwhere orientation is needed.

Review and choose one of the following two scenarios as your focus for Assignment 1.

    Scenario 1

A team has been formed at work, and the purpose of the team is to improve the shared workspace experience. Concerns of neatness and collegiality have been identified, and this team is to resolve those issues by implementing a strategic plan of action. This team will be meeting through an online platform. You are the leader of this team.

    Scenario 2

Your neighborhood community has been struggling with vandalism and safety issues. A committee has been formed to address these issues. You have been asked to take the lead position. Your committee will be meeting through an online platform.

    Part 1: Introduction

In Part 1, you will write an introduction that could serve as a document to be read if you were actually leading this virtual team. It could be a team at work that is meeting through Zoom or WebEx. It could be a team in your neighborhood that meets through FaceTime or WhatsApp. It could be a committee that has been formed within an organization of which you are a part. In this page-long introduction, develop the elements of listening, speaking, being culturally sensitive, and managing conflict.

For Part 1: Introduction, please allow an outside source, the lesson, and the textbook to guide your creation of this introduction that needs to flow smoothly from 1A to 1D.

If this fictional team was formed and you were made the leader, what would you need to say in order for the following elements to be clearly addressed with the other team members?

    1. Listening: The importance of listening as a member of the team.
    2. Speaking: How verbal communication should take place within the virtual meetings.
    3. Culturally Sensitive: The importance of being culturally sensitive while communicating in the team.
    4. Managing Conflict: How conflict will be managed during virtual meetings.

So, what do you want to say? How will you start this teams first virtual gathering so that the tone and expectations are established?

    Part 2. Reflection

In your 2A to 2D reflection, you will have the opportunity to explain the reasoning you used for incorporating all four elements of listening, speaking, being culturally sensitive, and managing conflict in your Part 1 introduction.

      • You will write a full paragraph under each of the four headings seen below.
      • Within each paragraph, you must include either a reference from an outside source, the lesson, or the textbook; all three must be used at least once, and all sections must have at least one source.)
      • Please use all headings as found on the required template.
    • 2A. Listening
      • In this paragraph, you will explain how you addressed listening within the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.
    • 2B. Speaking
      • In this second paragraph, you will explain how you addressed speaking within the introduction, what guided your strategy, and what source you used.
    • 2C. Culturally Sensitive
      • In this paragraph, you will explain how you addressed the need to be culturally sensitive in the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.
    • 2D. Managing Conflict
      • In this final paragraph, you will explain how you addressed managing conflict in the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.

    Due: Day 7, Sunday, February 1, 2026, 11:55 pm
    Value:
    100 points
    Grading Category: Other Assignments, 2%

    Instructions

Find or create a graph that “lies” by manipulating the presentation of data. Make sure to describe the graph and explain why it is deceptive in other words a manipulation of data.

Do not fake/make up data and then present that data accurately in a graph. For example, you should not make up some fake data showing that females are, on average, 12 feet tall and males are, on average, 4 feet tall, and then present that accurately in a graph. Although this is a manipulation of data, the assignment is the manipulated presentation of the data.

You may submit your work as a Word Document, PowerPoint, or Excel file. Another option is hand drawing a graph and submitting a scan/photo of your hand-drawn graph. If you do not know how to create a graph in Excel, it is a useful skill to learn and an internet search will provide multiple tutorials on how to create a graph in Excel.

If you are taking ideas, or data, or concepts from elsewhere, make sure to include a reference. If you completely make up everything on your own then no reference is needed. Either approach is fine for this assignment. While APA style is the norm in this class, formatting graphs in APA is something we have not covered and so for this assignment there is no requirement to adhere to APA style and this has no impact on your grade.

Resources: The instructional media item How to Lie with Statistics, found in , from , should be used to complete this assignment. You are able to use other resources as you wish.
