    Test 2 The Pomodoro Technique

    Note:

Target Date First week of Class

Do not put this off. Get this done early as it will help you with the rest of the course and also avoid you having to rush through all to many tests if you put it off.

Past students tell me this is their favorite learning technique as it makes them into more effective learners. Embrace it and you will see vast changes in how well you study as well as an improvement in grades

    Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this unit the student should be able to

    Learning Objective

    • The student will be able to explain how learning takes place and what must be done to ensure it.
    • Explain how to use the Pomodoro technique when studying
    • Explain how to deal with distractions
    • Describe the modifications that can be done to the technique

    Lesson

The Pomodoro Technique is one of the most effective ways to manage your time when you are studying. This technique is widely used in many applications other than studying because of the powerful results it achieves.

    To get started

    Other Rules for Study

In addition to the above follow the following rules

    • Study no more than three hours at a time using the Pomodoro
    • Take a break of a couple of hours and you can do another three hour session
    • Try to limit you to more than Six (6) hours a day studying.
    • If you must study more than six hours a day, (like when preparing for an exam) consider your performance on the test may be impacted by your brain being tired. You can push this once in a while but you will find often in the days that follow you will not learn effectively and may have difficulty recalling what you learned as your brain is tired.

    What to Do

Your deliverable is to answer the following questions and upload your answers to Canvas

    • Describe how to use he Pomodoro Technique when studying
    • How does the narrator suggest you deal with distractions
    • What kinds of modifications can you make to the technique?
    • Use this technique on one assignment and tell me your opinion of how it worked. (remember, using it multiple times will improve your experience and results)

    Requirements: 800

  • Computer Science Question

Test One Module One Learning to Learn

Why Must I Learn to Learn?

Why Must I Learn to Love to Learn?

    Note:

Get this done early as it will help you with the rest of the course as well as other courses you are taking this semester.

    Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this assignment, the student will be able

    • At a basic level be able to explain how learning takes place and what must be done to ensure you learn in the most efficient effective way.
    • Why your attitude toward learning affects the effort to learn and the speed in which you learn.

    Students often ask:

Why must you learn to learn and learn to love to learn. I have two reasons:

    Reason One

For the past 5 years, I have been working with students who fail college. Students who are placed on probation are assigned by the Dean of the College of Business for me to mentor out of probation. During this assignment I have learned a lot about students at Grambling and for that matter students in college

Most students who struggle in college do know know the basic skills of how to survive college let alone be successful upon graduation from college. One of the basic skills needed for both is how to learn a lot of information quickly to the point you can solve problems that you are facing. Most students lack this skill. Most students think all we are supposed to teach you is stuff you need to know to get a job. What they do not understand is on the job you will be expected to learn and grow at a high rate. You will be solving problems all day long and this learning is needed to do a better job in a more efficient and effective way. You will see the most successful have developed a love of learning and maintain that love throughout their lifetime,

Lets be honest. You are not going to learn everything in college that you will need to know for life. When you leave college you will be forced to learn new things not taught in college that are necessary for your success as well as your company’s success. As you go through life things around you will change, forcing you to adjust or be left behind, kinda of like grandma who cannot figure out how to use her cell phone. Until the day you pass, you must learn.

    Reason Two

Today the most successful organizations are called learning organizations. A learning organization is a company that facilitates the learning of its members and continuously transforms itself. … Learning organizations develop as a result of the pressures facing modern organizations and enables them to remain competitive in the business environment. To say this in other words if you want to survive in business you have to learn, continuously learn and learn fast.

Lets also be honest. How do you approach a task you hate? How do you approach a task you love? Learn to love to learn and learning never will be a chore

This has come to make me realize one of the most important things I must teach you in this class is to learn to learn.

College does not have a course titled how to learn to learn. Instead what we do is make you do a lot of things like attend lectures, take notes, read, ask questions.

    Assignment

Watch the following video. This video radically changed my views on how to learn and retain information. It is for this reason why it is included as an assignment as it will change you as well.

    When done

    • Write a one page paper double spaced which summarizes what was presented in this video.
    • When done, submit this to Canvas.
    • Try this out when finished, you will see a difference
    • Any assignment submitted less than one page will receive a zero.

    Extra Information

If you feel you want to go farther after watching the video above, you can take the entire course on learning by going to Coursera.com.
