I have personally never used Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets before in any form of work environment or schooling, so I learned a lot from this week’s lessons and exam.

I am a corporate trainer/ bartender for a brunch company, so my job is not very computer-based as I train people on how to serve and bartend to our company’s standards; however, I do work with a lot of higher-ups and franchise owners who use the likes of Excel to track store numbers, inventory, and payroll. Although I personally don’t use it, I know it brings a lot of organization to those in the company who do, so they are able to see numbers clearly and track weekly, monthly, and yearly progressions within the company, over specific products.

Even though Excel doesn’t benefit my line of work, some skills that I learned this week that would make my life easier if I did need to use it would be, converting data into a chart or graph, and being able to convert numbers and data from one cell to another by clicking on the cell and typing = (Specific cell letter & number). Being able to see my data visually in a graph really helps me as a visual, hands-on learner, and then finding any way to make life easier on Excel is something I appreciate, so I liked learning about the formulas you can use to do so. These skills would increase my online organization and computer skills, as I could finally add the use of Excel to my work resume. I felt that I would get looked over a lot during job interviews because I lacked knowledge in the Microsoft world, but hopefully, after this class and continuing to practice, I will become more confident in talking about using these skills career-wise.

I use spreadsheets pretty much every day either at work or at home depending on what I am doing. When I am at home I use for budgeting my daily expenses to manage my debt to income ratios for the month. I also use it for various other things like cataloging my book collection, sports card collection, home products inventory, IE. TV’s, DVD players, game consoles, paintings and any other items that I have to list with my insurance company and any other miscellaneous things that I might need it for around the house.

I feel that learning spreadsheet software can help everyone in a lot of various ways. In ways in which I use spreadsheet software varies on my day to day projects that I am doing. For instance, I use spreadsheets at work for calculating employees hours worked, their weekly schedule, inventory, bank deposit records and various other things that a spreadsheet may be useful for. In my home life, I use spreadsheets for home items inventory for insurance purposes, calculating and budgeting my monthly debt to income ratio and other miscellaneous things that I may need to use a spreadsheet for.
