    • Construction management is often highly stressful with the time pressures and uncertainties and the dynamic social structure involved in construction projects. There are different types of stress such as objective stress, burnout, and physiological stress; and work performances such as task performance, interpersonal performance, and organizational performance. Yet the construction community seldom goes for stress tests or regular stress appraisals and stress workshops so that they can equip themselves with suitable coping skills to manage stress.
      • Could construction firms provide periodical all-round stress appraisals to find moderate levels of physiological stress and stress-related physical symptoms such as headache, stomachache, or back pain?
      • Would you consider psychological treatment or physiotherapy instead of sick leave?

  • Discussion 2

This discussion will integrate knowing how to use literature to support claims and opinions.

There are many controversial points surrounding drug use. It is important to be able to support your opinion with research and clearly communicate your findings. This will help you to challenge biases you may have as well as prove your point is not just an opinion. Most of us know illegal drug use is bad for the human condition. This assignment will help you to learn to PROVE your opinions.

You will be the researcher to find “proof” for an addiction claim.

Then you will work with a peer to find more proof for another misinformation claim.

Use the module pages on how to support opinions on how to prove points in writing-both essays and presentations. Knowledge is power in health so have fun learning to be a health detective!!

  • labor local 773- question

Laborers Local 773 is in the process of organizing a landscaping company of 30 workers. Over the past two months, the company owner has engaged in the following activities (some, but not all, of which are or could be illegal) during the campaign in the hopes of staying non-union:

    • Included a fake paycheck stub (along with the real one) in all the workers pay envelopes showing what their workers take home pay would be after union dues are deducted
    • Sent a supervisor to the parking lot where a union meeting is taking place to write down license plate numbers of attendees
    • Had a foreman informally poll the workers to find out who is or isnt in favor of the union
    • Spread the word that the company used to operate with a union in another part of the state. The company found it difficult to compete, so it shut down; 25 workers lost their jobs.
    • Discharged the two most vocal union advocates on the job for poor job performance
    • Notified workers through the foreman that management hears their concerns and if the union is voted out, everyone will get a $1 raise
    • Had the foreman notify workers at each shift that unions are bad for business, and the company will probably shut down operations if they vote a union in

If you were the lead union organizer, based on the information provided, identify two (2) of these actions that you are confident are illegal on which you could file a ULP. Identify one (1) that is either legal or too iffy/weak to pursue a charge. Briefly explain your rationale for each, supported by lesson material.

    Requirements: nice and sweet

  • Construction question – Bottom up 9A Top down 8f

    1. bBottom Up (9A) vs. Top Down (8f) Organizing.

The lesson describes three alternative ways for a union to secure legal recognition to organize a contractor. [NOT counting a direct order to bargain by the NLRB.] Two are forms of majority status recognition and one is not.

Pretend you have been put in charge of an organizing campaign. Your target employer is an established drywall and finishing contractor who is relatively new to work in this area, employing 15-30 trades workers at any given time. According to the International union, the contractor is neither pro- nor anti- union in philosophy.

As the lead organizer, write a report to the union business manager (the chief officer in the local union) explaining the three organizing options available by way of the NLRA. In doing so, briefly explain the process by which each of those strategies would be executed, as well as pros and cons of each approach from the unions perspective. Conclude with your recommendation to the business manager as to which of the three methods the union should pursue.

Base your recommendation on the information you have about the targeted contractor as well as what you know about the three methods of organizing a contractor.
