  • Crisis/Trauma Worker Interview

Select a community agency, crisis center, commitment facility or individual who works with clients in crisis or trauma cases. Next, reach out to set up an interview with one of their mental health professionals who is trained as a professional counselor.

When preparing for your interview, you should write a set of base questions that cover the areas of information you need to gain insights for this assignment. As the interview progresses, you can add new questions as they come up. Additionally, for the most part, your questions should not be ones that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no” since these types of questions will not provide much insight. If possible, interview in person, via video call, or by phone so that you can ask follow-up questions in real time.

After the interview, you will write a 4-5 page reflective paper that will include the following:

    • Include the initials of the individual you interviewed as well as the date of the interview
    • How has this professional prepared for this specific area of counseling?
    • What steps do they take to protect their emotional well-being when working with difficult cases?
    • Have they ever worked as part of an interdisciplinary community outreach or response team? If so, what was that experience like?
    • What community resources do they most often use to further support their clients and the strategies do they use to encourage clients to engage with those resources?
    • What therapeutic strategy(s) or model(s) do they use most often and why?
    • What advice do they have for a new counselor preparing to work in this area?
    • Any additional insights you took away from the interview in relation to trauma and crisis counseling?

This paper should be 4-5 pages, double-spaced, and written in proper APA format. In addition to the minimum page count (i.e. 4 pages and 1 line minimum), you should also include a cover page and a reference page (if applicable) in APA format.

Please just make up a person, and say they wanted to stay anonymous.

  • Case Conceptualization Paper 1

    Theories of counseling class assignment

Case conceptualization is a fundamental skill for applying evidence-based counseling theories to client concerns. In this course, you will complete two case conceptualization papers, each based on a provided vignette (in files) with the goals of developing and strengthening your ability to apply counseling theories flexibly, practicing case analysis in trauma and crisis contexts, and developing cultural and ethical awareness in treatment planning. You will complete two papers, each centered on a different counseling theory. In other words, your two papers should not focus on the same theory.

Each paper should be up to 5 double-spaced pages (not including title page and references) and include the following sections:

    • Case Background and Foundation (~1 page)
    • Background Information: Succinctly summarize demographics, relevant history, and current functioning from the vignette.
    • Presenting Problems and Symptoms: Describe the clients main concerns.
    • Trauma or Crisis Considerations: Identify trauma- or crisis-related symptoms that may influence your conceptualization.
    • Individual, Cultural, and Contextual Factors: Discuss relevant factors shaping the case.
    • Ethical Concerns: Note ethical issues that might be relevant to the case.
    • Theoretical Application (1.52 pages)
    • Etiology and Issue Framing: Describe how the selected theory informs the development and maintenance of the clients problems.
    • Treatment Considerations: Describe how the theory informs a treatment plan, including interventions, goals, and the roles of therapist and client.
    • Application to Trauma/Crisis: Address how the theory accounts for or adapts to trauma- and/or crisis-related symptoms.
    • Reflection and Evaluation (~0.5 page)
    • Identify the aspects of the theory you find most useful for this case, and briefly discuss its potential strengths and limitations in this context.

  • Module 7 Objective 4 Discussion Board

develop a tentative treatment plan using the DOACLIENTMAP model. Identify only one (1) item for each section of the treatment plan. For example, for Objectives, identify one (1) objective in ABCD format that you believe would be most helpful for this client; for Assessment, identify an assessment you believe would provide you with the most clinically-useful information for establishing baseline symptom severity (such as the Beck Anxiety Inventory or the DSM 5 Level 2 anxiety scale); etc.

Step 2: After developing your tentative treatment plan, post it to the Module 7 Objective 4 Discussion Board for review by your peers. Be sure to respond with substantive comments regarding the treatment plans of at least two (2) peers.

Example of what it should look like:

    Diagnosis:

    Social Anxiety Disorder (DSM 300.23)

    Objective:

The client (A) will initiate one brief conversation with a coworker for at least 2 minutes (B) after exposure practice with Counselor (C), in 3 of 5 opportunities within 4 weeks (D).

    Assessment:

Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (can be done for free on-line)

    Clinician:

Licensed Professional Counselor providing CBT in individual therapy

    Location of Treatment:

    Outpatient therapy office

    Interventions:

Cognitive restructuring to identify and challenge negative automatic thoughts about social evaluation

    Evaluation:

Administer LSAS every 6 weeks to track changes in social anxiety symptoms

    Number:

    Weekly, 50-minute sessions

    Time:

    12-weeks

    Modality:

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

    Adjunct Services:

    Homework assignments (automatic thoughts worksheets)

    Prognosis:

Good (given motivation and responsiveness to CBT treatment)

    Another example:

Diagnosis: Cl presents as female, and is a self-referral for counseling due to long and increasing sx of anxiety r/t social situations. Cl has recently had a change in living situations which has prompted seeking tx.

Cl presents with criteria for FCODE (F40.10)-Social Anxiety Disorder aeb intense fear of social situations, fear of being negatively evaluated or scrutinized, The fear, anxiety, or avoidance is persistent, typically lasting for 6 months or more, all other criteria from DSM-5 that is applicable

Objectives of Treatment: Identify possible long-term goals and short-term objectives toward those goals. Considering systemic areas such as familial, educational, social, relational, spiritual, occupational, intrapersonal, etc., develop 1 – 2 goals and 2 – 3 objectives. The goals should be linked to the treatment approach you have selected and the needs of the client. Review treatment plan examples if you need clarification about writing long-term goals. Short term objectives must include Audience, Behavior, Condition, and Degree.

Objective: The client will demonstrate 3 new positive coping strategies to help manage anxiety symptoms.

    Audience: The client

Behavior: will demonstrate positive coping skills for anxiety sx.

Condition: once a week in therapy and twice a week at home.

Degree: for 20 minutes during session and increments of 10 minutes twice a week at home.

    Assessments: Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN)

Clinicians Characteristics Viewed as Therapeutic: Cl would most likely do well with a female counselor well versed in working with severe social anxiety. Clinician self-care will be a factor in effective tx aeb working with sx of anxiety and trauma can be difficult so ensuring best care while taking care of self is a necessity.

Location of Treatment: Therapy can take place in office in the traditional setting.

    Interventions to Be Used: Interventions:

Th will help cl to identify 2-3 positive coping skills for anxiety sx, such as positive self-talk, grounding exercises, and cognitive reframing.

    Emphasis of Treatment:

The long-term goals of the cl are r/t wanting to further occupational opportunities and interpersonal skills. With the dx, the sx that are appearing are inhibiting cl from reaching goals but through emphasis on CBT and Reality Therapy , the th and cl can collaboratively work to minimize sx and break potential barriers to goals down. CBT would be best to serve this cl.

Numbers in Treatment: Cl will engage in individual sessions and will be referred to an optional group that deals with anxiety.

Timing: Cl will begin meeting with th once every (2) weeks for an hour (53 min) for a duration of 6 months, unless sx decrease or cl decides to terminate services.

Medications needed: No information has been provided that would lead th to a med referral at this time.

Adjunct services: Cl could not be found needing adjunct services at this time.

    Prognosis:

Cl has shown motivation to receive services, came into therapy willing and in good presentation. Cl has expressed great desire to not “feel this way anymore” and be able to advance in their life. Cl was compliant and engaged in session but has not received tx for the previous 6 years of sx. Cl has social supports and mentioned some friends and parents they could reach out to. Quality of interaction with cl’s family is likely to also increase from seeking tx. Tx will be most effective in helping cl to identify and implement strategies to best help minimize sx and be able to connect with others.

  • Infacy and Childhood Paper

The main focus of this course is applying human growth & development theory to a case study. The case for this semester is in the Course Materials module in Canvas, and you can find your group members in the people tab of Canvas. This is a group assignment. This is so that you can discuss ideas with others and learn from others. It is not unusual for clinicians to consult with others in the real world. The assignment due in this module is on infancy and early childhood only. Your work should only focus on these stages and how to apply Eriksons theory to the case during this stage of development. Using Erik Erikson as your developmental theorist, submit a 3 page paper on your developmental impressions of the client during their infancy and early childhood (toddlerhood and play age). What does Erikson say they should be experiencing developmentally in this stage. Are they? Why or why not? What developmental tasks should have been accomplished, and were they mastered? Why or why not? How do interactions with the family members impact development? Be sure to consider the effect of crisis and trauma on their development. Support your position with examples from the case. The developmental components of these stages are identified below. You need to use this information as you analyze Jake during these stages of development. Infancy Psychosocial Crisis: Trust versus Mistrust The main question for the child is: Is my world predictable, supportive, and safe? The central focus for the child is: How can I be secure? Positive outcomes: Can I trust in people and the environment Developmental Tasks: Attachment, maturation of sensory, perceptual, and motor functions, development of language Early childhood (toddler) Psychosocial Crisis: Autonomy versus Shame and Doubt The main question for the child: Can I do it by myself, or will I always need help? The central focus for the child: How can I be independent? Positive outcome: Pride in self, the assertion of will Developmental tasks: Locomotion, language development, self-control, egocentrism Early childhood (play age) Psychosocial Crisis: Initiative versus Guilt The main question for the child: Am I good or bad? The central focus for the child: How can I be powerful? Positive outcome: I can initiate activities and enjoy learning Development tasks: gender-role identification, fantasy play, early moral development, self-esteem, group play Late assignments are not accepted. On the rare occasion when submitting a late assignment is received, students will not earn a grade of A in the course. Specific Explanation of the Assignment Based on your knowledge of human behavior, the material covered in class, readings, and your research, address the questions below. Note that the case summary does not connect the lives of the individuals in the case with human growth and development theory. You must make these connections in your analysis. References cannot be older than seven years unless the literature is considered a classic (e.g., Erikson, Freud, etc.) Remember to use specific references from the case summary to support your position in addition to the professional journal material. Wikis and Wikipedia are NOT acceptable for reference material since it is not guaranteed that reliable sources or individuals add the material. Be sure the information is from a reputable source (stick with .edu or .gov and double-check .org sites). Remember that not all information on the Internet is valid or valuable. References must be documented using appropriate APA style. Section 1 Using Erik Erikson as your developmental theorist, discuss your developmental impressions of the client. Who are they as an individual? What does Erikson say they should be experiencing developmentally up to their current age? Are they? Why or why not? What developmental tasks should have been accomplished through the current stage of development, and were they mastered? Why or why not? Be sure to consider the effect of crisis and trauma on their development. How do interactions with the family members impact development? How have they developed biologically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally up to the current developmental age? Support your position with examples from the case.
