  • Procedural Justice using Pasadena(Tx) police department

Consider all you have learned about Procedural Justice as you create the following paper: 1. Identify a police or law enforcement agency you are familiar with; describe the community and the agency with relevant demographics and/or statistics related to size; community served; number of officers; diversity of force; etc. (1 page in length) 2. For both internal and external procedural justice, identify one strength and one weakness that law enforcement agency has. Explain how each of these strengths and weaknesses affect the agency’s legitimacy. (2-3 pages in length) 3. Finally, design at least one new policy or program that will address a weakness you describe above. Explain how your policy or program will strengthen both internal and external procedural justice using relevant research. (1-2 pages in length) Your paper should fully address each of the items above, be typed in 12-point type, and use APA format to cite resources. Length requirement: 4-6 pages

  • Criminal Profiling: Real Science or Just Wishful Thinking

Read the article “Criminal Profiling: Real Science or Just Wishful Thinking?” In the article, the author critically examines the highly suspect and sensational group of practices that can be collectively known as criminal profiling, and discusses whether they meet the two criteria for a science.

In a short, 200-300 word essay, briefly describe the two most common practices of criminal profiling, and what type of offender is usually the subject of those practices. Additionally, discuss the two criteria for a science, and whether the two practices of criminal profiling discussed in the article meet these criteria. Finally, according to Muller (2000), “When considering a subject such as criminal profiling, it is easy to get lost in the hype and difficult to distinguish the fact from the fiction” (p, 262). Compare some of “facts” about criminal profiling from the article with some of the “fiction” of criminal profiling as discussed in the video, “The Minds Behind Mindhunter (Criminal Profiling).”

  • Criminal Justice Question

Required Reading Walker, S., Spohn, C., & DeLone, M. (2018). The Color of Justice: Race, Ethnicity, and Crime in

America, 6th edition. Cengage Learning. ISBN

READING ASSIGNMENT #3-CHAPTERS 5: The Courts: A Quest for Justice during the Pretrial Process & CHAPTER 6: Justice on the Bench? Trial and Adjudication in Criminal Court

Please respond to ONE of the questions from each chapter. Each response should be 300 words or more. Your responses should be in your own words. Any assignment that shows signs of plagiarism or any tool of cheating will receive a “Zero”.

    DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

    CHAPTER 5

    1. Assume that racial minorities are more likely than whites to be detained prior to trial. Why is this a matter of concern? What are the consequences of pretrial detention? How could the bail system be reformed to reduce this disparity?

    2. Racial minorities comprise a very small proportion of the lawyers and judges in the United States. What accounts for this? What difference, if any, would it make if more of the lawyers representing criminal defendants were racial minorities?

    3. Do you agree or disagree with the Supreme Courts decision (Grutter v. Bollinger) in the case in which the University of Michigan Law Schools admission procedures were challenged? What is the basis for your agreement or disagreement?

    4. What conclusions can you draw about the fairness of the plea-bargaining process from the recent research conducted by Kutateladze and his colleagues in New York City?

    CHAPTER 6

    1. Why do you think the U.S. Supreme Court decided to intervene in the Ed Johnson case (see Focus on an Issue: The Lynching of an Innocent Man)?

    2. Evidence suggesting the prosecutors use their peremptory challenges to preserve all-white juries in cases involving African American or Hispanic defendants has led some commentators to call for the elimination of the peremptory challenge. What do you think is the strongest argument in favor of eliminating the peremptory challenge? In favor of retaining it?

    3. Why does Paul Butler advocate racially based jury nullification? Why does Randall Kennedy disagree with him?

    4. In this chapter, we present a number of examples of lawyers who played the race card in a criminal trial. Almost all of them involved prosecutors who appealed to the potential racist sentiments of white jurors. Does this represent misconduct? Why or why not? How should the judge respond?

  • CRJU case study

write a 4-5 page paper, not including title page or references, that analyzes a cybercrime case. For this assignment, students should find a real-world cybercrime case that included hacking or the use of malware or both. First, provide an introduction with a thesis. Second, provide a summary of the case. Third, explain where this criminal event would fit in the typology of cybercrime and explain the cybercrime offenses involved. Fourth, apply at least two of the criminological theories to help analyze the cybercrime offender and victims in the case. Fifth, identify any lessons learned for investigators in this case. Finally, end with a conclusion.

Additionally, your paper needs to be double spaced, and include a cover page and reference page (these do not count as part of the 4-5 pages). All papers must be written APA format and all sources need to be cited appropriately. A minimum of 4 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles must be used. • Why study the cj systems of other countries?

The paper should be 25 pages in length (not including title page or references), written in APA format, and is worth 15% of your course grade. Please note that a 2-page paper will likely lack the depth of analysis required for a high grade.

Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of comparative criminal justice studies, based on your readings from module 7.

All sources must be cited using APA-style in-text citations and included on a References page in APA format.

Reference at least four sources from the assigned module readings. Outside sources are not required.

  • Research Report

For this assignment, you will engage in original data collection by going into the community to gather public opinion data on a correctional-related topic of your choice. (topic is women in corrections) After selecting your topic, you must collect primary data through a short survey administered to a minimum of 20 people. You will then provide copies of surveys to confirm data collection. After collecting your data, you will analyze the results and compose a 9-10 page research report (excluding cover page, references, and appendices) summarizing your methodology, findings, and interpretation. This report should contextualize results around implications for correctional policy and practice. In addition to the final research report, you will be asked to create a digital narrated presentation that overviews the seminal findings from your data. In total, you will create whatever number of slides you feel adequately capture your data, then briefly narrate over top slides by explaining the material contained within them. Your presentations should not exceed 5 minutes in length
