  • Statistics, Data & Hiring

The recruitment crisis has been affecting policing for several years. We need to identify the prior issues that lead to this hiring shortage. We then need to also look at the statistical data that either supports or contradicts our assumptions. Next, we need to look at 2023 and the ramifications of hiring with this shift in policing. If you are a Police Chief today this research is very important on how hiring is going affect the future of your department. We need to review the upcoming reforms and adjust. Could these reforms help with hiring, are they going to make it worse? Is there going to be monies for the mandates? Is the Quinn bill back because educate officers are a better fit going forward? We have an opportunity to discuss these issues as they unfold and hopefully have a vision of hiring in the future.

In a 3-5 page short paper please share your perspective on the challenges facing recruitment of police officers in the future. Remember to include data, to support your writing.

Forensic Simulation Activity: Establishing Time of Death

    Purpose

Students will use critical thinking and forensic reasoning to estimate the time of death and identify key postmortem indicators from a simulated corpse description generated by ChatGPT.

    Instructions

    1. Open ChatGPT.

    2. Enter the following prompt exactly as written below:

You are a corpse simulation. I am a forensic investigator.

Please respond only to the questions I ask about the body. Do not give me information until I ask for it.

I will ask questions about body temperature, rigor mortis, postmortem lividity, decomposition, and signs of water involvement to estimate time and cause of death. Respond as a medical examiner at the scene would.

Begin with the body I found in the woods near a creek. Wait for my first question.

    3. Review ChatGPTs generated case. Read through the description carefully. Take notes on all physical and environmental clues related to the time of death.

    4. Analyze the Evidence:

Estimate time since death (in hours)

Explain how each indicator (rigor mortis, body temperature, lividity, decomposition, etc.) supports your estimate

Identify possible cause and manner of death if clues allow

    5. Write a Brief Investigative Summary (12 pages). Your report should include:

Case Overview: Summary of ChatGPTs simulated scene

Forensic Findings: Description of postmortem indicators

Estimated Time of Death: Based on your analysis

    Reasoning: Explain your logic step-by-step

    Conclusion: Likely cause/manner of death

    6. Submit your report with a screenshot or a copy of the ChatGPT simulation you analyzed.

    Submission Instructions

    • Complete voiceprint activity
    • Format your document as follows:
    • Double-spaced
    • 12-point Times New Roman font
    • inch margins
    • Submit your completed document through D2L by the assigned due date.

    **** Key Note**** from professor

    Hi,

    Forensic Simulation Activity

    • For this activity, please use the prompt that I have provided.
    • You will need to review the book on determining Time of Death (TOD).
    • Please do not ask ChatGPT for the time of death. Ask questions you need to determine TOD.
    • I will need you to provide your conversation with ChatGPT, starting from the prompt. I will review what questions you asked to help you determine TOD. If you do not ask questions about rigor mortis, lividity, etc. (pg 306 – 312), I will deduct points from the assignments.
    • After asking the necessary questions, please provide a summary in your own words.
    • Again, in your submission, please provide:
    • Chat log with ChatGPT
    • Investigative summary

If you have any questions, please let me know.

evaluating Originalism: We the People Memorandum

Originalism is often dismissed based upon changing the intent and application of the Constitution. Judge Robert Bork is referred to as the father of originalism and he asserted that the U.S. Constitution states what the Framers meant to convey and that it means what the framers meant for it to mean (The Heritage Foundation, 2023). There are arguments that originalism is based upon interpretation versus construction; however, this argument is a fallacy in nature as true originalism is bound by the original meaning of the Constitution and not societal mores, normative changes, culturalist traditions, or municipal and public opinions (Gorsuch, 2019).

You are assigned to develop a Memorandum to succinctly debate the myths and facts of originalism as it applies to the U.S. Constitution. Your submission should be four pages in length (please do not exceed) consisting of the following areas:

    • Describe what the theory of originalism is and why this perspective is essential as a foundation for our U.S. Constitution. In other words, what might be some of the consequences if an originalist approach is not followed?
    • Illustrate the challenges and complexities associated with the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution within the lens of originalism.
    • Evaluate the argument that originalism is based on interpretation and not construction.
    • Locate and share two biblical beliefs that directly align with the foundation of tradition in originalism.
    • How should individual Christians today live out theological principles?

Your Memorandum should be in APA Formatting; please incorporate at least three scholarly references and include in-text citations in your submission. You need a title page, four pages of content for your Memorandum, and a reference page. No abstract is required.

    Make citation throughout the text

    Requirements: See work

  • 700 word discussion post

    Questions:

    1. What are some of the fundamental reasons we see police officers engage in misconduct? Why are these ethical violations so serious and how do they impact their relationship with the community? Fully explain and support your answer.

    2. The use of force, i.e., when force should be used and in what manner, by law enforcement is constantly an issue for debate. Explain your view on the use of force by police. As part of the response give a situation (real or hypothetical) that illustrates your view. Be careful to fully explain and support your answer.

For the second question, the following video is presented (copy and paste the URL in your browser to view it). Here you will see a police officer using what was ultimately deemed to have been excessive force. Ultimately it costs him his job. What do you think happened here?

Are the actions justified? Go beyond presenting only your opinion.
