Go to this page to access the CJ databases required for use in this class:

Choose Proquest, the first choice under “Best Bets”. You will be required to login after this point. If you have trouble logging in, there are resources at this link:

Within the Proquest database, search for this journal article:

Binnall James, M., & Petersen, N. (2021). Theyre just different: The bifurcation of public attitudes toward felon-jurors convicted of violent offenses. Crime, Law and Social Change, 75(1), 3-19. doi:https://doi.org/10.1007/s10611-020-09912-3

In this Journal Article Analysis, you will be submitting a Microsoft Word document. In that document, you will submit:

    1. Summary of the article:

This minimum 300 word summary shows me that you understood the article, this is not the same as an abstract of the article. Provide a brief overview of what the article was trying to do (i.e., the problem), methods, if relevant, and the thesis or findings.

    2. Critical Evaluation of the Article

In this minimum 300 word critical evaluation of the article, you might address the articles problem, methods, or findings, or all of these, offering specific support from the text itself (using paraphrase or direct quote and indicating the page number) for your observations. Below are some guiding questions to help you think of what to write:

    • Did the article ask the right question in the first place? How does it fit with other articles on the same topic? Did it miss any important studies it should have considered?
    • Did the problem match the methods? For example, to understand student behavior, were students observed or interviewed, or did all the data come from teachers?
    • Were the findings reported in a consistent and clear format? Did you notice problems in the data that the article overlooked? Did the article fail to acknowledge and explain any limitations?
    • Was the logic clear and were claims properly supported with convincing data? Did you spot any fallacies?

    3. Your Opinion of the Article

In this minimum 300 word component, include:

-Did you agree with the thesis or believe the findings?

-If everything was logical, clear, and well-ordered, yet you remain skeptical, how would you explain that? Perhaps a fundamental difference in values would explain it, or perhaps you know of counter-evidence not considered by the author.

    4. Article Contributions

In this minimum 100 word final component, state your estimation of the articles contribution to knowledge and its implications or applications to the CJ world.

Submit this in paragraph form in a Microsoft Word and check for grammatical and spelling errors prior to submission. Also, be advised that this assignment will be checked for similarity in Copyleaks when you submit so, original work only.
