  • Research Proposal: Annotated Bibliography

    Instructions

Annotated bibliographies provide an overview of the available research on a topic divided by the source of the information. Students should identify 6 peer-reviewed academic sources and include these as citations in APA format (see ).

Under each citation, students should write one paragraph (3-5 sentences) that briefly summarizes the information presented in the source (What are the main ideas?) and one paragraph (3-5 sentences) assessing the quality of the source (think about the research design, sample, ethical concerns) (Who was studied? Is the sample big enough? Is it generalizable?).

For each of the six sources include:

    • The APA citation
    • Summary paragraph
    • Quality paragraph

The goal of completing this bibliography is to start to build your knowledge on the academic literature related to your research topic. If you decide the sources you select are good, you can use them as sources in your final proposal.

Requirements: around 1 or 2 pages

  • Correctional Issues: Prison, Rape, Transmission of Disease,…

    Unit 7

Correctional Issues: Prison, Rape, Transmission of Disease, and Prisoner Rights

This assignment assesses the following course outcome:

CJ505-4: Appraise ethical practices governing the criminal justice system.

    Analysis and Application

Medical Experimentation: Another Tuskegee Study or Beneficial Research?

Research indicates that 1 in 4 prisoners are HCV-positive (or have hepatitis C) and roughly 3% of prisoners have HIV (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2020; World Health Organization, 2025).

Because of the three-times-higher HIV infection rate within prisons when compared with the general population (National HIV Curriculum, 2025) , and similarly high rates of hepatitis C, some medical professionals suggest allowing for controlled experimentation on inmates to test drugs to combat these two infections. Do you agree with Dr. Albert M. Kligman that prisoners should again be involved in medical trials?

Develop a position paper (1,000 words) addressing both sides of the issue. Provide a historical overview of the significant benefits and detriments of medical testing of prisoners. Include at least two examples to support

    your position..

  • Criminal Justice, Research Paper: Thesis Assignment

    RESEARCH PAPER: THESIS ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    OVERVIEW

As a criminal justice professional, you must learn how to write an academic research paper. In

this class, you will write an academic research paper. We will break down the steps of academic

research in this class by working on the Research Paper Assignment in various stages. The

Research Paper Assignment will culminate in the Research Paper: Final Assignment.

The first step of the Research Paper Assignment is for you to write the Research Paper:

Thesis Assignment. For the Research Paper: Thesis Assignment, start by selecting a criminal

justice topic of your choosing. This will be the same topic that you will use throughout the

course. Select a criminal justice topic that is of interest to you and that you have not previously

written about or researched. Also, select a topic that is current yet developed enough that

academic research has been written on the topic. This topic will be the topic you use to write

your Research Paper: Final Assignment on.

After you have selected your criminal justice topic, begin to develop your position/argument on

the topic and the 2-3 major points in support of that topic. Those elements will be included in the

    Research Paper: Thesis Assignment.

    INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare one to two sentences that include the following elements:

    The criminal justice topic you have selected;

Your argument/position on the topic; and

2-3 major points in support of your argument/position on the topic.

The selected criminal justice topic must be sufficiently limited for the substantive content of a 4

6-page paper. The statement must take a position on a narrowly focused criminal justice topic.

The thesis must be no more than 2 sentences long.

The thesis must be a declarative statement rather than asking a question.

The thesis must be simple and direct.

The thesis must demonstrate proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation as well as be written in

the third person using formal, academic language.

The thesis must be written in APA format.

  • Murder Investigation

Imagine that you were the lead investigator in a murder case that has just concluded with a conviction. You have been asked to compose a document in which you describe the various tasks that were performed in order to achieve conviction.

You will begin your essay by first describing the crime itself and then the events that occurred at the crime scene. First, describe the responsibilities of law enforcement officers when they arrive at a crime scene. Next, discuss the steps that were involved in processing the crime scene. Finally, explain how any primary and secondary witnesses were identified and interviewed, and explain the differences between the two. Discuss the evolution of forensics and how this evidence is more reliable than eyewitnesses.

Next, you will discuss how the case was presented in court. First, you will identify the steps that took place during the courtroom trial process. Then, explain how the courtroom process can be considered adversarial and the roles that lay and expert witnesses played in the court case. You should address the sentencing phase and how victim impact statements can sway the judges sentencing and how minimum mandatory sentencing works. Finally, you should discuss our prison system and your personal thoughts on rehabilitation versus punishment and what type of prison system is best here in the United States.

Your paper should be a minimum of three pages in length, not counting title and reference pages, and be in APA 7th ed. format. You must support your paper with a minimum of two references from the CSU Online Library. Should you need assistance with citations and/or references, please contact the Writing Center.

    Overview

In this assignment, you will reflect on ways that criminal justice professionals make practical use of criminological theories.

    Prompt

    • Choose a theory that criminal justice professionals use in one of the branches of the criminal justice system (law enforcement, courts, or corrections).
    • Describe a real-life example of how this theory is being utilized in law enforcement, courts, or corrections. Consider the following and address the relevant questions for the criminal justice branch you selected (not all questions below pertain to all branches):
    • Is there a program or policy in place that improves police-community relations?
    • Is there a program or policy in place that aims to reduce delinquency?
    • Has a law or policy been created in response to this theory that aims to reduce incarceration?
    • Does this theory influence approaches to sentencing?
