Youll explore ethical dilemmas in social research by examining well-known historical studies and connecting them to todays ethical standards. 1. Choose one classic study that raised major ethical concerns (examples include Milgrams Obedience Study, Humphreys Tearoom Trade, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, etc.). Briefly describe the study and its primary ethical violations. 2. Explain how IRB principles apply today. Which protections (informed consent, voluntary participation, confidentiality, protection from harm, debriefing) were violated? How would an IRB evaluate or revise this study if it were proposed now?
