Constitutional Amendment Assignment

Students are to critically review and assess the Constitution Act, 1867 and the Constitution Act, 1982. In this short 5 page assignment, students should identify three ways in which the countrys constitution should be amended to address equality rights issues. Pls number the three ways (I. II. III.)

Rubric:

1. Organization (20% of assignment)

• is each component of the assignment included? (proposed amendment, three arguments as to why this amendment is necessary)
• is the assignment logically organized?
• are the recommended page and format instructions followed?

1. Analysis (60% of assignment)

• is the proposed amendment set out clearly?
• does the paper include 3 arguments as to why the amendment is necessary?

1. Writing and Presentation (20% of assignment)

• ideas are clearly communicated
• paper does not have grammar, spelling or typographical errors
• paragraphs are used properly
• instructions for the assignment are met

All papers must be in accordance with APA format 7th Edition. This includes how the paper is formatted, as well as citing and references. For reference, please see Purdue OWL. When using outside sources, you need to use academic or scholarly sources. For reference, please see What Is an Academic Source? All Exploration Papers must be a minimum of 500 words. You can go over this, but not under. A word count must be at the end of your paper. Omission of this requirement will result in a 5-point deduction. All Exploration Papers need to have a reference page. This, as well as the title page, do not count towards the total word count. Grammar and spelling are important. Please be sure to proofread closely. See the rubric in the syllabus and under the assignment tab for how Exploration Papers are graded. Exploration 1 Topic: Explore the issue raised in the reading for this week, Why Prison? Posing the Question, that the use of imprisonment has more to do with the control of certain groups of people rather than a response to crime. Use the lecture and the reading as well as one outside academic source to support your reasoning.

Instructions:

The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about your term paper. You will submit drafts of your paper throughout the semester for brief feedback by the instructor to improve your final term paper. Based on the topic you selected in Week 1 and after beginning to review scholarly sources about your topic, provide a detailed outline of your paper. The outline should include the following sections:

1. Introduction

a. Brief summary of the problem and policy:

2. Literature Review

a. _________________

b. _________________

c. _________________

d. _________________

3. Theoretical Explanation for Policy

4. Recommendation(s)

5. References

Where your assignment will look different from your peers will be specific to parts 1a and 2a-2d.

Part 1a should provide a brief summary of the problem at hand and the policy specific to that issue. This can come verbatim from your paper selection and rationale assignment from week 1.

Parts 2a-2d should include subsections of what you will discuss related to your specific policy issue. While these sections may change as you begin writing your paper, it is important to have an outline of topics to keep your paper organized and ensure that it includes at least some of the main issues you will discuss.

For example: If I selected a paper topic on the death penalty I would preliminarily include the following topics to discuss in the literature review:

2. Literature Review

a. Creation and Brief History of the Death Penalty

b. Prevalence and Differences in the Death Penalty in the United States today

c. Research on the effectiveness of the death penalty

Issues related to the effectiveness with the death penalty including racial and sex differences

This assignment is meant to make sure you have explored your topic at least from briefly enough to know the policy, potential issues, and give me an opportunity to point out other factors that you might want to consider. Overall, this is a completion based assignment. However, you should still review the rubric below.
