Assignment 1
Assignment 1: Organizational Issue Case Study (Maximum of 20 points) NOTE: This Case Study is used in Assignment #4, so begin Assignment #4 once Assignment #1 has been submitted. Please select an organizational event, issue, or situation drawing on your professional experience or academic interests for your case study. You are encouraged to develop your case study around rural and diverse populations. You should maintain a narrow focus for the case study, and it will be used in Assignment 4. The purpose of the case study is to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding by integrating the four frames in Assignment 4. Note: It’s not necessary to be familiar with the entire textbook for this assignment. Please use generic descriptions (school district, school, college, or university) and professional titles (principal, superintendent, faculty members, vice president, chancellor) instead of the name of the organization or an individual. Case studies require clear, concise descriptions, key information presented logically, developing a framework for analysis, analyzing the issues involved, and describing the findings (solutions or changes) and recommendations in a scholarly paper. The textbook, along with your outside research from peer-reviewed academic journals, should provide the basis for possible solutions, changes, and initial recommendations. When developing the case description, you are the analyst. It is important to describe what happened without introducing your opinion. Elements of the Case Study 1. Introduction to the organization and the issue or situation included in the case study 2. Background and description of the organization and the circumstances or primary cause leading to the issue or situation 3. Solutions and/or changes implemented, and if they were considered to be successful or not 4. Initial recommendations for improvement not considered by the organization Here is a link to an additional resource from The Resilient Educator to assist with this assignment. How to Write A Case Study This is an academic paper and must be written in APA style. The use of AI is not allowed on this assignment. - Connect with professionals in our field
- Understand substance abuse and addiction treatment methods (WAC 246-811-030.3.c)

- ), a safe/supervised use site, “wet” housing such as 1811 Eastlake, safer sex services, outreach to people involved in prostitution… Some of these services are open to drop-in visitors. Others would have to approve your visit in advance. I strongly suggest checking with them in advance, many days before you hope to visit.
- Find out what they do. Learn about their clientele, services, and outcomes by meeting with a staff member and/or client, in conjunction with their published materials and your own observations.
- Share your findings. Tell me where you went and what you learned. Include your assessment of its advantages and disadvantages. Explain the impact on you of directly experiencing/meeting the personnel, the clients, and/or the environment. You could do so through an essay, a blog, or a video.
Grading criteria: Please see
. The instructor is not looking for you to take a particular stance. You get to make your judgment. You will be graded, however, on your ability to support your ideas with good reasoning or evidence.
Note: An agency may have a variety of programs or provide various services. Focus on their harm reduction programming.
Suggestions:
Before your visit:
- Decide what type of service you’re interested in seeing. Your instructor suggests choosing something you’re unfamiliar with, something new to you.
- Find out who provides that service in our area. (Google it.)
- Contact them to see if you can visit. Contact them at least 5 days in advance. Tell them you are a student studying Harm Reduction. Ask if you can visit. See if they have any particular requests or instructions for you. Follow them.
- Read a little about them before you go.
During your visit:
- Take a friend or the instructor, if you’re nervous.
- Respect those involved. Do not take photos or make recordings without the clear consent of the program and those portrayed. Respect their privacy.
- Look, listen, ask, and feel.
After your visit:
- Gather your thoughts. Put down your information, ideas, feelings, and remaining questions.
- Write a clear thesis statement.
- Write a justification. Explain your reasons.
- Choose a format to provide your results.

Music research paper Pink Floyd
The topic for the paper is Pink Floyd. Please use a 12 size font and “double space” your writing. A 5 page minimum means 5 complete pages of actual research paper plus your works cited page. Wikipedia may not be used as a source.
Every paraphrased sentence needs a source at the end of the sentence. Every quotation needs to be cited properly. Unless your sentence is your own original thought, idea, or observation, you need to credit a published author for that information. Prior knowledge about a band/artist is still considered “paraphrased information” because that information came from somewhere else or someone else originally. Please go through the “Research Paper Checklist” to avoid common mistakes.
Here are a few examples:
I think Def Leppard is an awesome band. (No source is needed at the end of the sentence, because that is “what I think”.
Def Leppard started in Sheffield, England. (source..?)
This paraphrased sentence needs a source at the end of the sentence.
If you are using the Internet for information, that was published by someone else. There is nothing wrong with paraphrasing (rewriting another author’s work in your own words) as long as you put a source at the end of each and every paraphrased sentence.
Here is another simple example:
Paul McCartney played bass for The Beatles. (This needs a source also. I know this and you might also know this, but the information came from somewhere else originally. Unless you were a member of The Beatles, you can’t write that Paul McCartney was their bass player without sourcing it.)
Please do a spelling/grammar check and proofread your paper before you turn it in. If you submit your paper through Canvas early, I will grade the version that you submit.

Discussion Thread: Teachers in the 21st Century
Meditate on the four chapters of 2 Timothy. Using Pauls role as a teacher to Timothy, create a thread debating a topic that relates to the role of teachers in the 21st century. Using scripture as your background, and considering information studied over the past weeks (Disruptive Innovation, The 21st Century Skills Movement, the use of technology and its impact on teaching and learning, Clayton Christensens ideas, etc.), you will be assigned to argue either in support or against the pre-determined topic:
- What are digital immigrants and digital natives? Are there major differences between digital immigrants and digital natives? Do the similarities and/or differences affect the ability to educate? How?
As you form your thoughts for your side of the debate, closely consider teachers in the 21st Century. Consider components of the educational system that are tried and true, which remain the same. Alternatively, ponder those systems that have transformed over time as we adopt the ways of 21st-century living. Use the assigned textbook, the Bible readings, presentations, and any approved websites to connect scriptural teaching to your studies. Your thread must demonstrate evidence of a scholarly approach and thoughtful analysis.

Discussion Thread: Identifying Essential Elements within You…
- Develop descriptions of the essential elements that relate to your classroom, school or district. Use a fictitious school or one that you are familiar with if you do not work for a school system. An essential element is a goal or non-negotiable objective of your school.
- Review each of the elements. For each, suggest 1 professional development topics that would help to reinforce understanding and application of the element.
