  • Packaging Design Brief

    Assignment 3: Final Project – Package Design Brief (Week 8) Instructions: Assume you are the packaging engineer for a large consumer products company. In this company, the Packaging Design Briefs are initiated by the marketing group and forwarded to the Package Engineering group. You currently are working on three packaging design briefs. Copies of these design briefs are attached. Note that the marketing department has completed some information on each brief and the Package Engineering department will complete the remaining information. 1. Choose one brief and complete the information on the brief. Using what you have learned in the class, complete the information needed on the design brief. Please include justification of your responses when requested. You are making judgment calls based on the information that you have been given and also based on what we have learned in the class. You will submit three separate documents: 2. Complete a Power Point Presentation. The Power Point presentation should reflect the outcome of completing the design brief as well as other aspects you deem necessary in presenting, you need to have at least 10 slides, to include an introduction slide and a reference. 3. Complete a video for your presentation. You can record yourself (2-3 minutes) on a personal device (cell phone, laptop, tablet, etc) and upload it. (Do not use Kaltura for this assignment) If the file is too large, you can upload it to YouTube, then send me the link in the comments section of the assignment. Once completed, upload the brief, presentation, and video for grading. Your responses will be graded based on your demonstration of the concepts studied in the class. Again, select only ONE brief to complete the final project.

  • Discussion Thread: Application of Static Equilibrium

    In some water parks we find splash pads that contain either conical or cylindrically bucket water dampers. Each bucket is hanged using pairs of strings attached on a rod/shaft that is inserted along the cord of the bucket. While the water is filling the bucket, the bucket remains in static equilibrium until the water reaches a certain level. After that, the bucket loses its equilibrium state and dumps the entire water down. After watching the following clip, discuss why the cones topples and dumps the water after the water in the cones reach a certain level.

    • In your thread, discuss why the the cones remain in equilibrium before toppling and what disrupted the equilibrium condition later.
    • The answers to the above questions must be supported with relevant sketches, free body diagrams, and static equilibrium equations.
