  • Multimodal Revision & Reflection

    Directions:

    Part 1: Revise (30%)

Select an audience that would be interested in or that urgently needs the information and analysis you presented in project 1. Consider the new situation carefully and revise your project to address this new audience, context, and purpose.

Your revision must include at least two of the modes of communication:

    • Linguistic
    • Visual
    • Audio
    • Spacial
    • Gestural

    Part 2: Reflect (70%)

Write a reflection narrative that justifies and evaluates the choices you made based on course materials. It should provide an honest and critical self-assessment of the project. Your reflection must contain specific examples (including direct quotations) from both project 1 and project 2 to earn full credit. The audience is your professor.

Deliver in a single Google Doc, as instructed below.

    Options and Ideas

The goal of this assignment isn’t to create a perfect multimedia production, but to thoughtfully consider how different modes of communication can work together to reach a specific audience at the right moment. Focus on making deliberate choices that serve your rhetorical purpose.

For this project, you should think carefully about the way a real audience might best encounter the information you have to give. Here are some possibilities. If you have other ideas, check with me.

    • Podcast
    • Website or blog posts
    • Social media campaign (multiple posts)
    • Interactive digital story
    • Poster or Infographic
    • Video or animated explainer
    • Physical or virtual exhibit

    Multimodal Requirements

Your project should address at least two of the following modes of communication:

    • Linguistic: Written text, spoken word
    • Visual: Images, graphics, color, layout, typography
    • Audio: Music, sound effects, voice recordings, ambient sound
    • Spatial: Arrangement of elements, white space, physical or digital layout
    • Gestural: Movement, interactive elements, body language (if applicable)

    Writing the Reflection (~3 pages)

Your reflection should be a first person narrative that explains your choices in the revision and makes an evaluative argument about the success of your revision.

    Address the following topics:

    • Rhetorical Choices
    • Multimodal Design Decisions
    • Challenges and Learning Transfer

Your justification statement should take the form of a message to your professor and use unified paragraphs. It shouldnt be delivered in a list of answers. The goal is to make an argument for your learning. This is an extremely fast turn around for a project, so I dont expect that the revisions will be perfect. The goal of the reflection is to think about their strengths and weaknesses.

You will want to deal with the following questions (but not necessarily in this order).

    Sample Questions about Planning

    • What was the rhetorical situation you selected for your revision? How did you ensure that particular rhetorical situation had kairos and exigency?
    • What choices did you make in terms of content and design to meet the audiences needs and to make your revision appropriate for the context and purpose? (What did you include? What did you leave out? And WHY?)

Sample Questions about the Finished Revision

    • How effective is your revision?
    • What specific features or aspects of the revision makes the new version effective for your specific audience?
    • What do you think the weaknesses are of your revision? What would you change or continue to work on if you had more time or another chance to revise?

Sample Questions about Transfer of Learning

    • How was revising for a new rhetorical context different from how you might have seen revision in the past?
    • What did you learn from the revision process? Are there any skills or ideas you could see yourself applying to future writing situations, either academic or professional?

**To support your reflection, you should draw on specific examples from both projects and include passages from course readings.**

    Delivering the Project

Your project should be delivered in a single Google Doc share link. You should use the Document Tabs feature to separate the revision from the justification.

    (See Below)

To deliver the multi-modal project, you will need to deploy the deliverable in an application that can be linked within the Google Doc.

    For Example:

    • Upload videos to YouTube set to unlisted. Include the link.
    • For Canva documents, like social media posts or slideshows, include a share link from Canva
    • For PowerPoint, Upload the PPT to Google Docs and include a share link

With the link, please include a brief description of what I should see. That way, if the link isnt working correctly, Ill know.
