I also want to see your personal reflections on the museum: Did you find it engaging? What did you learn? What problems or opportunities did you notice? Please remember to proofread your paper as sloppy work will affect your grade.

Part of the process of becoming more of who we want to become includes understanding our place among others and how we enter into dialogues with other people through language. Because language is a major way, perhaps the major way, that we express our identities, a written exploration of our group or cultural affiliation should also lead us to a deeper understanding of ourselves as individuals. The purpose of this assignment, then, is for you to analyze and explain how your group or cultural affiliation has affected your sense of who you are, but you need to do this with some depth, using one outside source.

There are a number of key components that you could include in your essay:

    • How do others perceive your group? What stereotypes exist about the group you identify with? Where do you find these stereotypes? TV? The hallways? Textbooks? Websites? Be specific.
    • How do you perceive your group? Do you like belonging to your group?
    • Along with giving your perception of how your group has been perceived, you should also include the actual perceptions of others as expressed through their writings or through interviews with individuals about your group. This is where you can incorporate a source!
    • Explain what it means to you to be a part of this group or cultural group. Address how belonging to this group has influenced how you view yourself, how you view the world, and how you view other people not part of the group. This is the main purpose of the essay the bulk of your essay should address this component.

Keep in mind that your audience may include those not identified with your group. Therefore, your voice and tone, as it encounters the voices and tones of your sources, will need to take these members of your audience into consideration.

    Requirements:

This essay should be 500-750 words long, typed, double-spaced, and should follow MLA Style for general formatting and the documentation of sources. You should have at least one source. Make sure to incorporate the feedback you received to enhance your final copy.

Your grade will be determined according to the Final Paper Rubric embedded in this assignment.

  • Discussion A Panel

In this discussion, you will write in the voice of the author of one of the closed research theme readings. Alternatively, you may write in the voice of a major respondent, expert, or witness who is interviewed or quoted in a closed research theme reading, if you think theirs is a more relevant perspective on the closed research theme. You will be playing this “character” in the panel discussion, adopting their positions and/or responding the way you think they would respond to others in the discussion. To begin, review the 6 closed research theme readings you have read so far; pick one author or one major respondent you will play in the panel discussion. You will be playing this “character” in the panel discussion for the whole board (initial posts and responses). You need to write in their voice and remain in character throughout the discussion. Then start a new thread in this board and respond to the following prompt. Click the Post Reply button to submit your initial post: Identify yourself as the author or respondent you have selected as well as the title of the reading and the person’s role in the reading. Example: “I’m Alex Tizon, author of ‘Lola’s Story.’” Example: “I’m Lola, a major figure in Alex Tizon’s ‘Lola’s Story.’” In the voice of your selected “character,” respond to one or more of the following questions. You can think of these as the questions you are being asked by the moderator or audience member: How would you answer the guiding question for this section’s closed research theme? (If needed, you can find your class’s closed research theme question in Modules) What issue regarding the closed research theme do you see as most important or most overlooked? What do you want the panel audience or other panel members to see and understand? What action, solution, or policy, related to the closed research theme, is closest to your heart? What do you want the panel audience, other panel members, and/or others in society to take action on? Remember, think about what your “character” (author or major respondent) would believe, know, want, value, etc. This may not be what you personally know or believe, at all! Stick to their perspective and viewpoints as much as you can, based on what you know about their views from the closed research theme reading. Your Module 4 initial post should be at least 150 original words.
  • Three Most Important Things Ive Written

Paragraph 1: Three Most Important Things Ive Written (200 words)

Writing has been an important part of my life, especially as a parent and a working adult. The three most important things I have written are messages and notes related to parenting, work-related communication, and a personal reflection piece. As a parent, I have written letters, messages, and notes meant to guide, encourage, and protect my child. These writings matter because they reflect my responsibility and love, and they help me communicate values, expectations, and support. In my work life, I regularly write emails, reports, and instructions that are important for clear communication and professionalism. These writings help prevent misunderstandings and ensure tasks are completed correctly. The third important piece of writing is a personal reflection I completed for school, where I was able to connect my real-life experiences with my academic growth. That piece allowed me to see how my roles as a parent and employee have shaped my perspective and voice as a writer. Together, these three types of writing show how writing is not just an academic skill for me, but a practical tool I use daily to manage responsibilities, express care, and grow personally and professionally.

Paragraph 2: Purpose, Audience, Tone, and Content

Each piece of writing served a different purpose and audience. Parenting-related writing had the purpose of guidance and support, with my child as the audience. The tone was caring and firm, and the content focused on expectations, encouragement, and life lessons. I believe this writing was successful because it communicated love while setting clear boundaries. Work-related writing had the purpose of clarity and professionalism, with coworkers or supervisors as the audience. The tone was respectful and professional, and the content included instructions, updates, and information. I successfully met these elements by being clear, organized, and direct. The personal reflections purpose was self-examination, with my instructor as the audience. The tone was thoughtful and honest, and the content focused on my experiences balancing parenting and work. Overall, I believe I effectively met the purpose, audience, tone, and content in each situation because I adapted my writing style to fit the needs of each audience.
