    Final Paper (Problem Analysis)

    Assignment Instructions

This analysis project requires you to tackle a problem within your field of study by first exploring the problem, its causes, and its impacts. Then, if you want, you can recommend one or more practical solutions to solve the problem. After deciding on the problem you wish to tackle, begin building questions about it. Your goal for the analysis is to answer the questions through your sources. Finding multiple angles and perspectives is ideal so that you explore those possibilities in the final paper before settling on your recommendation.Be sure to identify what is at stake.

Here are questions to help guide your analysis:

    1. What is the problem being addressed (explain, describe, and “prove” that it exists)?
    2. Who is affected by this problem?
    3. Why does this problem exist? (Identify the root causes.)
    4. Why does the problem persist? (Identify the major factors that contribute to the problem’s ongoing presence.)
    5. What is at stake if the problem is not solved?

If you choose to address a solution (you don’t have to), you may find these prompts helpful:

    1. Who can take action?
    2. What should they do, exactly?
    3. Why would this help?
    4. What are the positive and negative aspects of your solution(s)?
    • PURPOSE: To analyze a problem and possibly provide a solution
    • AUDIENCE: Classmates and others interested in the field
    • LENGTH: 750-900 words (Times New Roman font). Please do not go significantly (~10%) under or above the word count requirement. This word count includes only the paragraphs in your final essay (not the Works Cited/References page or previously submitted sections).
    • SOURCES: 5 (five) sources from the APUS Library (These may include sources you used in previous Assignments. Going under this number will cost points in grading.)
    • FORMAT: The citation style that is appropriate for your discipline. Most papers will use APA style.

Submit your Assignment as one Word document attached to the Assignment link so it can be automatically processed through Turnitin. You can save your paper with a title like this: Your Name Portfolio Final Paper. Do not submit multiple files or PDF files.

    Turnitin Scores

Because parts of the portfolio (items 1 and 2) have already been processed in Turnitin, they are now part of Turnitin’s database. That means that, when a portfolio is submitted, Turnitin will identify the phrasing it has previously “seen” (such as items 1 and 2 of the portfolio).

Turnitin scores are likely to be high for all portfolios. Don’t panic. Review the Turnitin report, and you will likely see that much of the matching phrasing is from work you previously submitted. Your instructor understands this and will focus on the Turnitin matches in the final paper.

As mentioned above, if the Turnitin AI score is high, your instructor is likely to give you the opportunity to re-write the assignment.

Tips for Communicating in My Field

    My Name:

    Zaily Santillan

    My Field of Study (Program):

    Human Resources Management

Below are the tips for communicating in my field that I posted in the week 2 discussion (section 3 of my initial week 2 post):

After looking at the comparison between the two I can say that writing in the HR field should be professional, organized, and have supporting evidence. Proving realistic solutions to problems that go in the workplace is one of the best ways to have a positive impact. The terminology in the field should be used correctly and in easy manner to make sure everyone can understand it. HR deals directly with people, their money, policies, performance, etc.. so, communication is very important. HR needs strong writing skills to handle real workplace solutions.

Itzchakov et al. (2023) study how listening can influence employees in the workplace. The main idea was to see if employees with good listening skills could have a better relationship at work and reduce the burnout feeling the desire as well to resign. The researchers compared employees who completed listening training with those who didnt. The results showed that the employees who received the training connected well with others, there was less emotional exhaustion, and less likely to leave the organization. The authors conclude that the listening training could reduce the organization burnout and improve morale.

NOTE: It is acceptable to use 1st person pronouns (I, me) in this section.

The authors are credible because they are researchers in organizational psychology and workplace conditions. The article was published in Human Resources Management, and it was a source that I was able to find in the APUS library which makes it reliable. The article is based on real workplace experiments and has a list of references towards the end.

    Evaluation HOW

How will you use this source in your project? Why is it valuable to you? Put this information in your own words. Do not use an AI-generated assessment.

NOTE: It is acceptable to use 1st person pronouns (I, me) in this section.

This source is beneficial to my paper because it offers a solution for my topic regarding employee burnout. This can be supporting evidence that the burnout isnt always from a heavy workload, but also by a organization with poor communication and listening skills. This article is an example of how listening training can reduce emotional exhaustion and boost morale.

Kim et al. (2024) examine how corporate social responsibility affects employee burnout. The study shows how the burnout can go down by increasing the psychological safety and lowering job stress for the employees by having them feel safe in the environment. The authors also find that work overload is another stressful factor. The study concludes that CSR can help with the burnout, but in order for that to happen organizations have to stay on top of employee morale and manage workload.

I believe this source is credible because it was published in Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management which is a peer reviewed academic journal. I plan to use this source and help explain the causes and solutions related to employee burnout. It supports that one of the many causes for employee burnout is work overload and an environment that provides the social responsibilities an organization should enforce. This source is helpful because it connects organizational behavior with employee mental health which support my argument.

Share a Lesson Plan With Goals and Objectives

Write a Lesson Plan to Share

This week you will post a lesson plan in one of these three topics; safety, nutrition or health.

We should be introducing these topics in our classrooms regularly, and they may cover all kinds of information, from fire

safety, to growing or preparing food, to proper handwashing and many other topics.

Your textbook has many excellent lesson plans that you may share, or you may create your own lesson plan.

Look at the posts of your peers before you choose your lesson. I want to see original lessons, not the same lesson plan

posted by multiple students. If this happens, I will contact you to ask you to post a new lesson plan.

You will practice writing specific, observable and measurable objectives for your lesson. See the information in this

module on writing good objectives. Objectives are necessary for assessing the child’s learning.

Essential Components of a Preschool Lesson Plan

Regardless of the layout, a standard preschool lesson plan should include these key elements:

    • Clear Objectives: Specific, measurable goals for what children will explore or learn (e.g., “identify three primary colors” or “practice turn-taking”).
    • Theme: An overarching topic like “Insects,” “Community Helpers,” or “Seasons” to tie various activities together or a specific activity based on a topic– in this case related to health, safety or nutrition
    • Materials List: A list of all supplies needed, such as books, art materials, or sensory bin items.
    • Procedures/Activities: Step-by-step instructions for the lesson, including how to introduce the topic and manage the activity.
    • A Curriculum Extension-another activity in a different curriculum area to extend the learning ( art, music, literature, etc.) The activity is related to the content of your original lesson.
    • Assessment & Reflection: Informal methods to track progress (e.g., observations or checklists) and a space to note what worked or needs changing. In other words, how will you determine the child has met your objectives? After a lesson is completed with children, it is appropriate to reflect and consider what you might do differently next time you use this lesson plan.

Your posted lesson plan needs to have all the elements of a good lesson plan as listed above.

    Week 6: Aristotle

Aristotle believed that many things in nature have natural purposes. For example, the purpose of the eye is to see, and the purpose of an acorn is to grow into an oak tree.

    Consider the following question:

    1. Do you think things in nature really have built-in purposes, or are purposes something humans project onto the world?
    2. Can you think of examples from nature that seem to support Aristotles idea of final causes?
    3. How might someone today argue against Aristotles view?

    example1

People have always tried to understand why life looks organized and wondered if every part of nature has its own purpose For example fireflies produce light to communicate modern biology explains many features through evolution natural selection keeps traits that improve survival For example ladybugs eat plant pests modern biology explains many features through evolution Another observation is that beaver dams change rivers and create ponds Another observation is that horses have strong legs for running Another observation is that horses have strong legs for running chance and environment also shape living forms mutations introduce small changes over generations Another observation is that the eye allows animals to detect light and movement chance and environment also shape living forms Nature may appear purposeful even without a plan.

    Example 2

    1. I think that somethings do have built in purposes. A perfect example would be many of the plants on Earth. A Venus fly trap has the built in purpose of “eating” whatever flys into its mouth-like head(s) a tree has the built in purpose of growing and sometimes bearing fruit and no matter what, producing oxygen. There are definitely many things which either we as humans have given purpose, like any animal we have domesticated and made a pet/cattle and many things which have projected purposes onto, like space being the final frontier.

    2. Examples from nature that support Aristotle’s final cause idea would be growth of plant life is the final cause of rain and photosynthesis. And that death is the final cause of life as to live is to inevitably die.

    3. One may argue against Aristotle’s view by using the theory of evolution, claiming that nothing really has a natural cause and that instead it is the very long process of selecting genes and functions for inheritance to help organisms best survive the environment they inhabit.

    “Bug Affairs” (p. 264) Questions

    1. What is Pennington’s purpose? Do you think this article is attempting to inform, persuade, entertain, solve a problem, or something else? In short, what is Pennington up to?

    2. Explain Pennington’s introductory strategy. How does the description of a bedbug’s feeding process fit into his overall purpose?

    3. What does the resurgence of bedbugs in major U.S. cities say about us–about our culture, our relationship to nature, or our progress?

“Fly on the Wall Sees Things It Wishes It Hadn’t” (p. 277) Questions

    1. Scientific American articles are written for a general audience–people who haven’t spent years studying bacteria, feces, or houseflies. Identify the passages in which you learn something new. Explain, if you can, how Dunn condenses background knowledge for a general audience.

    2. Explain the role of questions in Dunn’s article. Point to at least two specific questions and describe how they serve a particular purpose.

    3. In his conclusion, Dunn explains that flies offer a “real truth” about human behavior. In your own words, explain that truth.

    Dialogue Essay

This essay allows you to present two opposing or alternate positions as answers to your inquiry research question. As a writer, you are going to do this in the voices and characters of two (only two) people you create.

First think about the positions themselves if your inquiry research question involves a question about whether to vaccinate young children, one character will support vaccination and the other character will oppose it.

If your research question asks if gun control measures really reduce crime and make society safer, one character will argue that they do, and one character will argue that they dont.

If your research question asks about the best way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, one character may argue for more investment in renewable energy (solar, wind) and the other character may argue for conservation and efficiency.

Your topic may not seem to lend itself easily to forming two clearly opposing positons, but whatever your question, there are different answers, and your characters in this dialogue must present different answers to your research question.

Now think about the characters these will be two people who could reasonably be expected to find themselves having a debate, and you will place them in a realistic situation where we can believe they would find themselves. You should spend some time writing about these people in the introduction: who are they? What do they value? The opening paragraph of this essay will establish the characters and settings for this dialogue. Do not describe their positions here; let their words within the dialogue do that for you.

    Essential Points

Both characters in the dialogue must present a sound, reasonable, and well-supported position. You may not have one character clearly win this debate, so you will need to read your sources from your Annotated Bibliography carefully to make a good case on either side of the question. This is essential for you to move on to a good argument of your position.

Since you will NOT be citing/documenting this document paper, it is essential that you absorb the basics of the two positions and create a strong summary/synthesis of what you have read. This assignment will reveal quickly if you have come to an understanding of the basic positions or views in the debate. Also, as a realistic dialogue, your characters will not be using extremely specific details of the kind that will appear later in your research essay, but they should have some facts and examples to support your views.

The characters need to speak like themselves. This means that some liberties with vocabulary are allowed. If someone would be likely to use informal language, a dialect or slang, that is fine in this essay. However, this does not mean that you can disregard the rules of grammar and mechanics. You are presenting a spoken dialogue, but you are presenting it in writing, and readers need to be able to follow this as they would any written language.

    Format/Organization

Begin with an introductory paragraph that introduces the problem and the two characters who will be presenting their solutions to the problem. Explain who these characters are, why they are interested in this problem and what they value.

Allow each character to speak in a script format. One character speaks, and then the other character responds to what was said. You may want to organize this section on the major findings of your research. If your research question asked about whether to vaccinate children, your characters might discuss the advantages and disadvantages or vaccinations, opting out of vaccinations, school policies, public health concerns, alternatives to vaccinations, etc. Allow your research to create your script.

You dont need a conclusion. End the conversation between the characters when you feel that you have presented both sides equally and the characters can walk away from this conversation feeling like their views have been well argued.

Partly because of this format and largely because you are presenting two reasonably developed positions in argument, this essay will most likely be close to 4 pages. If you find that you have only written 2 pages, look for ways to further develop the dialogue. If you find yourself wanting to write much more than 4 pages, present only the major arguments and save the smaller details for your research essay.

Use APA format for this essay. This should include a title page (use your research question as your title), and sections labeled with headers. A Reference page is not necessary because you will not be quoting or citing anything. Your Annotated Bibliography serves as a list of your sources for this essay.
