The Producer’s “vision” for an artist/band

Having considered the different roles a producer plays in recording, post your thoughts as to how much control a producer should have over a musician’s/band’s sound and image. Please do some research into the producers involved with one of your favorite songs or albums, and post an example here (copy and pasting a youtube URL will automatically embed the video). Is that producer recognized for having a particular “sound” or representing a certain type of musician? Should the producer have a say in how the musician/band is represented in terms of image and publicity?

Given this is the only homework due for the week (beside the Unit 1 test), it is worth 4 points.

    Example 1

I believe a producer should not have total control over a musician or bands sound/image. Instances like these lead to unfair treatment over the artists and causes many to leave, as they feel like a puppet to their producers. I feel like an artist should maintain the aesthetic they want for their brand and music and the producers should help them polish it so they re able to brand the artists image well and in the way the artist likes it. One artist who doesn’t seem fully controlled by their producer is Taylor Swift. She was able to write her own lyrics and helped brand herself in the way she likes with the help of the producers being able to put her ideas in vision:

Song: Taylor Swift – Love Story (written by herself)

    Example 2

I think a producer should have some control to an extent. If the producer knows how to produce or ensure quality. They should help them become what is trending in the world today and how to attract the audience. Though the artist should also be in control of their creativity. They should still be able to be themselves while also ensuring quality.

My favorite albums right now is Higher by Chris Stapleton. Chris Stapleton is just an outstanding singer with incredible vocals, its almost unreal. Chris Stapleton was actually one the producers himself on this album. Hes also helped produce other songs for other country artists, after doing research and carefully listening to different songs hes produced they all have a similar sound to his own.

  • Critical analysis essay

    Purpose

The critical analysis essay will be based on one of the essays students have read thus far in the course or on a piece the instructor chooses. Write an essay that identifies and discusses one or two nonfiction elements that are most essential to the reading selection from our reading in Module 4/Learning Unit 4 Reading..

First, identify the nonfiction form from the class reading in Module 2 that is most important in the selection, One way to analyze the piece through the lens of sense of place is to imagine how the selection would be different without the form. Use the following information to help structure the essay. Remember you must use an essay from our book and you must cite the book, which is located in BiblU Tab on the left of your screen. You will use page numbers from the book for your citations. You may not use web addresses for the essay from somewhere. The book must be used. You may not use a work that is not in our book. If you do you will receive a 0 on the assignment. (You may request approval in advance to use something else that is a nonfiction essay, but I need to review and approve that at least 5 days before the assignment is due.)

    Instructions

First, identify the nonfiction elementfor example, characterizationthat is most important in the selection. Next, explain why that element is important and whether the element had a positive or negative impact on the narrative and thus the reader. Use the following information to help structure the essay.

    Introduction

In the first paragraph, identify the essays title and author. The opening paragraph must provide a broad, but accurate, synopsis of the selected essay as well as a clearly defined thesis statement. In the critical analysis essay thesis statement, identify the one or two nonfiction elements to discuss in the body paragraphs. Also, the thesis statement should clarify how the nonfiction elements impact the narrative.

    Body Paragraphs

If writing about one nonfiction element, each body paragraph should provide an in-depth analysis of closely related examples of that element. If writing about two nonfiction elements, make sure to present a balanced exploration of both (e.g., two paragraphs of approximately the same length for each element). As supporting evidence, provide appropriate and sufficient direct quotations, paraphrases, and/or summaries, properly cited. Each paragraph should also include a combination of summary and analysis. Finally, if there is mention of a secondary character or related plot point that is not listed in the opening-paragraph synopsis, briefly explain this character or plot point.

Remember that when writing about literature, refer to actions and events that take place in the present tense. For example, instead of writing “The main character wanted to go to Bolivia,” write “The main character wants to go to Bolivia.”

    Conclusion

The closing paragraph should restate the main idea discussed in the essay but should not repeat the language in the introduction or body paragraphs verbatim. The conclusion is the final opportunity to make a lasting impression on the reader. Think about excellent books or movies that have memorable endings. What characteristics make those endings memorable? Do the final words or images leave a question in audiences mind? Do they prompt one to action? A strong conclusion resonates with the reader, casting a net beyond the confines of the text to make a statement or observation about the larger world.

  • Representations of the Human Body in Art

Representations of the Human Body in Art

Artistic representations of the human body have been a timeless source of inspiration, reflecting cultural aesthetics, societal norms, and individual creativity. This assignment challenges you to delve into the diverse ways the body has been portrayed in art, both historically and in contemporary contexts. Through thorough research and creative reflection, you will not only analyze various approaches to body representation but also envision your own artistic interpretation.

The final project will be presented as a well-researched PowerPoint presentation. Scholarly research is an important component of this project.

    Directions:

Pick ONE of these following themes and find artwork:

    • Beauty and Aesthetics: Explore the concept of beauty as represented through the human body and how cultural ideals have shaped artistic portrayals of physical attractiveness.
    • Body in Photography and Digital Art: Analyze how digital media and photography have influenced the representation of the body in art.
    • Human Body in Religious Context: Analyze the representation of the body in religious art, highlighting the significance of religious beliefs and rituals in shaping these depictions.

Utilize at least five scholarly sources that align with your chosen theme. Keep in mind that you will be focusing your research around a minimum of five artists/artworks. Use your textbook and course material for inspiration. Avoid simple Internet searches and Wikipedia entries.

    Effective primary sources include:

    • Artist’s statements
    • Interviews with the artist
    • Manuscripts, correspondence, and reviews written at the time that exhibitions of the artist’s work were held
    • Artists’ own accounts of their life and work: autobiographies, memoirs, and oral histories recorded later

Effective secondary sources include interpretations and analyses of primary sources by someone else, such as:

    • Reference books (dictionaries of art, encyclopedias)
    • Books by scholars
    • Scholarly journal articles
    • Book reviews
    • Museum websites*

The Internet is a rich source of information, but you need to be very careful to evaluate the legitimacy of the sites. In general, websites are unreliable if it is unclear who wrote the information or what contributors’ qualifications are. Many of the great museums around the world have their own websites, however, which are excellent and trustworthy sources of fascinating information. These websites are generally considered secondary sources, but may include primary source information, too.

Once you have done your research, you need to pull it all together to present a coherent interpretation of the artwork that shows that you understand the content and context. This interpretation should include your own opinion, carefully developed by considering your research findings. The strongest interpretations of an artwork combine the viewer’s formal analysis, factual evidence from primary and secondary sources, and support from the work of specialists who know about the topics being covered.

    SLIDE INFO:

Create a PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation using the following guidelines to present your research.

You may choose to use other presentation applications other than PPT, such as Google Slides, or

, but if you do, you must save and submit your final work as a text-based PDF document in order to receive credit.

    Slide 1: Title Slide

    • Your title slide should include a captivating title that reflects your chosen theme.
    • Also include your name and date.

    Slide 2: Defining the Theme

    • Write a concise explanation of your chosen theme. Introduce the artists and their cultural contexts.
    • Provide an explanation of how this theme offers a unique perspective on body representation in art.

    Slides 3-12: Artwork Analysis

    • Present and analyze at least five artworks by at least five different artists that exemplify your chosen theme.
    • Use your textbook and course material for ideas on where to start.
    • Your chosen artworks should have two dedicated slides each as follows:
    • An image slide which includes a high quality image of the artwork and its basic identifying information (artist name, title, date, medium, dimensions, and location if known). You may include detail images or alternative views.
    • A separate slide where you discuss in a researched statement how the artwork reflects your theme and contributes to the discourse of body representation in art. Also consider how the artists choice of materials and/or processes may be relevant or meaningful.
    • Remember, you will do the above for each artwork, so this section should be 10 slides (5 image slides and 5 researched statement slides).

    Slide 13: Comparative Analysis

In a separate written statement (300 words minimum) you will compare and contrast the artists in terms of their interpretation of the theme. Identify common threads and variations in their approaches. Support your claims with research and informed examples/ideas, and draw upon concepts, terms, and approaches learned in class.

Slide 14 (or more slides as needed): Artwork Proposal

After conducting your research, you will now get a chance to think creatively and propose an imagined artwork where you envision your own representation of the body. This could be a self-portrait, but it does not have to be.

Do not worry if you are not artistically inclined! You are not expected to create an actual finished art piece; it is merely a proposal.

    • Concepts: Describe the concepts and theme of your envisioned work. What emotions or messages are important to convey?
    • Inspiration: Share what inspired your idea. Did the research influence your concept? Keep in mind that your artwork proposal does not have to relate directly to the artists or theme you chose for the main part of your research project. However, in your statement, you should make thoughtful connections to your artists and/or theme, whether this be through comparison or contrast.
    • Details: What materials/medium would you use? Consider and explain the scale, location, style, and subject matter. Be specific and as vividly descriptive as possible, demonstrating an understanding of course concepts. Would it be figurative or would you represent the body (yourself if a self-portrait) through other ways?
    • Visual Representation: Include any simple sketches, diagram, images, or visuals that may aid in the depiction of your proposed artwork. If you don’t want to sketch, you could include found images or a digital collage that may assist in helping to visualize your idea.

A fun part of this proposal is that since you are not actually expected to complete the work, you are not constricted by location, scale, or cost of materials!

    Final Slide: Works Cited (References)

    • On the final slide, include a properly formatted full reference list.

See the University’s library guide for

Remember to use in-text citations on the content slides.

***NOTE that on slide 13 it says a minimum of 300 words is required.***

  • English Question

You work for a large company that is hiring a social media director, a position the company has not had before. You know that some current employees may be qualified for the new position, so you want to encourage them to apply because they would already have knowledge about the company’s products, services, and culture.

However, in the past few years, despite encouraging applications from current employees, new hires have been external candidates, and you know that some employees who applied for those positions have a little resentment about not getting hired.

A full description of the position, including requirements and salary, is available on many public job boards to be seen by external audiences, and the job description is also provided on the company’s website (www.companyname.com). Applications (rsum and cover letter) must be emailed to humanresources@companyname.com by midnight of the last day of next month. Internal candidates must apply in the same way as external candidates by emailing their cover letter and rsum to Human Resources. Internal and external candidates are applying at the same time and have the same deadline for applications.

Write a MEMO encouraging internal employees to apply for the new position. That memo will be distributed to all departments and posted for all internal employees to see. Note, you should not describe the position in the memo; just refer employees to the complete job description provided on the company’s website. The purpose of the memo is not to announce the position (that’s done on the company website) but to encourage current employees to apply for the position (and refer them to the job announcement on the company website for details).

    Submission Instructions:

Use all principles of writing studied so far in the course (Six Cs of Communication, positive emphasis, “you” approach, message formatting and organization, etc.). The document should use appropriate memo formatting, including To, From, Date, and Subject lines as well as a memo or memorandum heading. Remember, the name of an attached file should be descriptive and short!

If you are writing more than 2-4 SHORT paragraphs, you are writing too much!

Do NOT use the exact language from these instructions. Craft your own, original memo explaining the situation to your audience in your own words.

If you do not use any AI tool, put “I did not use AI to complete this assignment” in the text message submission box.

If you do use any AI tool (Grammarly, ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.), then in the text message submission box or as an attached separate file, include an explanation of how you used the AI tool(s), such as by including a copy of the chat log with the AI tool to show what you asked and what help it provided.

  • ENGL226 WEEK 4 DISCUSSION

    Discussion Prompt:

This week’s lesson discusses the writing process, overcoming communication barriers, organization, and strategies for both positive/routine and negative messages. Due at the end of this week is your first writing assignment, a positive/routine memo. This discussion will work through the planning step of the writing process to prepare that positive/routine message.

If you can prompt AI to write a message, you can prompt yourself to write that message! Therefore, in this discussion, we will discuss strategies for effective AI prompting as a way to review effective strategies for accomplishing your purpose for your target audience.

First, review the instructions for the , including the provided rubric.

Second, review to prepare to write your Week 4 positive/routine memo assignment. As this exercise shows, if you just give an AI tool the instructions for the Week 4 writing assignment, the result is not good. Therefore, let’s talk about how you might craft an effective prompt to generated better AI results… and as a way to prompt yourself by analyzing your audience, purpose, and strategies to be used in writing!

Before Thursday midnight, analyze your audience and purpose for the Week 4 positive/routine message assignment by writing a prompt for AI that includes the following:

            • Role: Who are you as the writer of the message in relation to the audience (i.e., who are you or the AI tool acting as when writing this message)?
            • Audience: Who is the ? (If there is more than one type of audience group/member, how are they similar/different?) What do they want? What do they need? What do they expect?
            • Purpose: What should the message do for the audience(s)? What do you want them to do or feel after reading this message?
            • Parameters: How do you want the message to accomplish its purpose? What are some strategies (, , one of , etc.) that you should use in the message? What is the format of the message (memo, letter, email, etc.)?

Remember, AI is a tool and always just OPTIONAL to use. However, learning to prompt AI is like learning to prompt yourself as a writer. Your prompt has to explain the writing situation, providing the purpose, audience analysis, and strategies to use so that AI can write the message successfully. If you can prompt AI to write, then you can prompt yourself to write based on this understanding of the purpose, audience, and writing strategies to accomplish the purpose for that audience!
