  • ENTR3312 DISCUSSION

    Responding to Discussion Topics:

A course content topic is presented for discussion. You are expected to respond with an initial discussion post and respond to at least two posts by others students. You must post an initial response to the discussion before viewing other replies.

All responses — your initial post and subsequent posts — MUST be substantive and well thought-out. This means statements that are equivalent to “Yes, I agree,” “Me, too” or similar weak, vacuous statements are unacceptable. You are expected to add to and to expand the depth of the topic discussion.

Your posts should be short, but not limited to, typically a minimum 3-4 sentences per paragraph and be your original work (not copied from other sources, etc.). Use topic heading for major points. Complete sentences, grammar, punctuation, and logical flow are important. Do not restate the discussion topic in your responses. Your responses should be scholarly or business professional. Make sure you are understand the discussion topic. A common mistake is to reply to a discussion topic not presented. Always double-check, review the discussion topic before posting your reply.

The discussion topics will be available two weeks in advance of the due date, adequate time for you and other students to develop the topic discussion. This means last day, last minute posts are likely to be “add on” commentaries without time for the exchange of views on the topic discussion — and a guaranteed way to lose points. Plan ahead, begin early. Only quality, substantive posts will earn you full points.

    Grading:

    Initial post: 6 points maximum
Two additional posts: 2 points maximum each
APA Citations-References: incorrect/omitted, where applicable; point deduction

    Total points maximum: 10 points

    Discussion Topic:

Chapter 3 discusses individual creativity and the importance of the creative process in generating new business opportunities.

In terms of generating and fully developing innovative ideas and concepts, we often hear of the advantages of team brainstorming being superior to individual brainstorming — but is this always true? [Don’t over-read the question; it is a simple question.] Explain. Elaborate.

See “Creative Thinking & Ideation Techniques” in Modules > Innovation Team Projects.

    Recommended Discussion (Initial Post) Outline:

    Title (topic heading)
    Introduction (introductory sentence, or paragraph)
{Content} (typically multiple paragraphs with topic headings)
References (for citations in {Content} section)
    Honor Code Statement

  • Discussion 4

You are a member of a World Trade Organization task force that is reviewing the nine-year banana conflict between the United States and the European Union (EU). The EU was giving preferential treatment to banana exporters from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific island nations. But the United States challenged what it saw as unfair trading practices and the World Trade Organization agreed. The U.S. action gained support from global fruit companies Dole, Chiquita, and Del Monte, which account for nearly two-thirds of the fruit traded worldwide. The EU argued it was supporting struggling economies for which bananas make up a large portion of their income.
