  • report related to Crisis Management and Organisational Resil…

Please refer to the attached assignment brief and instructions for the full requirements of this report.

The report must strictly follow the guidelines provided in the attached document, including the required structure, learning outcomes, and assessment criteria.

This is a 2000-word academic report related to Crisis Management and Organisational Resilience, and it must include proper Harvard (UWE Harvard) referencing.

For the organisation/case study, the assignment allows either:

    • an organisation I currently work for, or
    • a named real-world organisation.

I prefer that the report focuses on a real-world organisation in the aviation industry, preferably an airport or airline, since I currently work in the airport industry and previously worked in the airline sector.

The selected organisation should allow a strong analysis of:

    1. Organisational culture and resilience
    2. Evaluation of a crisis management framework
    3. Critical reflection on a real crisis or emergency response

A suitable aviation-related crisis case (for example operational disruption, safety incident, pandemic response, or major crisis affecting aviation operations) should be used to support the analysis.

    Please ensure the report:

    • follows a clear academic report structure with headings
    • demonstrates critical analysis, not just description
    • includes relevant academic sources
    • uses UWE Harvard referencing style
    • aligns with the learning outcomes and marking criteria provided in the attached brief.

All analysis and recommendations should be evidence-based and relevant to crisis management and organisational resilience.

Crisis Management and Organisational Resilience Assessment Brief

    Overview

The assessment for this module is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to analyse crisis management and organisational resilience in a real-world context and convert that analysis into practical, evidence-based learning for organisations.

    Assessment Details

    Assessment Type: Report

    Length: 2,000 words

(Word count includes headings, in-text citations, tables/figures, quotes, and lists)

Weighting: 100% of the module mark

    Format: Word document

Deadline: Check the Assessment area in Blackboard for the exact date and time.

    Task

You must write a structured report based on either:

    • An organisation you currently work for, OR

    What You Need to Cover

Part 1 Organisational Culture and Resilience

Evaluate how different organisational cultural attributes influence how organisations anticipate, withstand, and adapt to crises.

    Focus on contrasts such as:

    • Flexibility vs rigidity
    • Centralised vs decentralised leadership
    • Openness vs defensiveness
    • Learning-oriented vs compliance-oriented mindsets

    Important:

Do not only describe organisational culture. You must explain why certain cultural characteristics strengthen or weaken resilience, using examples from your chosen organisation or case.

Part 2 Frameworks for Ethical and Sustainable Crisis Response

Select one established framework related to crisis management or organisational resilience.

    Examples include:

    • Crisis management cycles
    • Risk management models
    • Business continuity planning

    • How it works
    1. Critically evaluate it
    • Strengths
    • Limitations under real conditions such as:
    • Uncertainty
    • Time pressure
    • Incomplete information
    • Competing stakeholder needs
    1. Discuss ethical and sustainable decision-making
    • How the framework supports:
    • Transparency
    • Ethical actions
    • Long-term sustainability

Part 3 Critical Reflection on a Real Crisis or Emergency Response

Select one real crisis or emergency event from your chosen organisation or case.

Provide a critical analysis of the organisations response, including:

    Key Elements to Analyse

    • Key decisions taken
    • Actions implemented
    • Communication strategies used

    Factors Influencing Outcomes

Explain what influenced the success or failure of the response, including:

    • Organisational culture
    • Preparedness
    • Leadership
    • Stakeholder management

    Identified Weaknesses

Discuss any gaps or weaknesses exposed during the crisis response.

    Recommendations

Provide evidence-based recommendations to improve organisational resilience, such as:

    • Improved planning
    • Better communication strategies
    • Organisational learning processes
    • Capability development

    Learning Outcomes

Your work will be assessed on how well it meets the following module outcomes:

MO1: Evaluate how different organisational cultures foster resilience.

MO2: Assess frameworks for ethical and sustainable crisis response.

MO3: Critically reflect on real emergency responses to strengthen organisational resilience.

    Referencing Requirements

    • Use UWE Harvard referencing consistently.
    • Reference widely and purposefully to support your analysis and recommendations.

  • Assignment 4: Group Project – Why did it happen?

cholera outbreak ! i attatched my hazard below

In this section, analyze natural and social processes that led to the disaster and the effectiveness of risk reduction measures implemented during and after the event (emergency, recovery and mitigation measures).

    • Hazard analysis: (1) Explain the type(s) of hazard that affected your study area (e.g., flooding, earthquake, wildfire, epidemics, cyber-attack, etc.). Consider compound hazards such as earthquakes inducing dam failure, and intense rains on recently burned lands (floods after fire), which may be an issue for your study area. (2) Consider the likely effects of climate change on hydrometeorological hazards (if its the case) in your study area. (3) Describe the magnitude and frequency of this type of event: (a) was it a big event? and (b) are these types of events common in your study area? (frequency) summarize the history of this type of hazards affecting your study area in a timeline as well as narrative text.
    • Exposure and vulnerability analysis: For a suitably sized subset of your study area, (1) document the process of urbanization, first using US Geological Survey topographic maps to demonstrate progressive urbanization in the 20th century, then more recent satellite imagery to document additional urbanization since about 2000, and (2) analyze issues related to vulnerability. Describe different types of vulnerability that are relevant to your case study (physical, social, institutional, contextual, etc.).
    • Risk reduction measures: Provide a description of relevant risk reduction measures taken during the event (emergency management measures and, after the event, recovery and mitigation measures). Mitigation measures can include structural measures taken to reduce risk (e.g., levees or dams in the case of floods), but also nonstructural measures (e.g., land use planning or risk communication).

The Assignment 4 paper, written by the team, should be 3-4 pages (12-point font, single-spaced), not including figures and references. (Deadline: Mar 10)

  • Disaster risk management in Southeast Asia

Assignment Question Southeast Asia sits at the confluence of multiple natural hazard regimes and complex socio-economic vulnerabilities. In the past five years, the region has experienced a cascade of disasters: Typhoon Rai (Odette) devastated coastal and upland communities in the Philippines; record-breaking monsoon floods in Vietnams central provinces overwhelmed critical infrastructure; the 2018 Sulawesi earthquaketsunami exposed gaps in early warning and land-use planning; the 20202023 Mekong Basin drought altered sediment transport and livelihoods; and transboundary haze events linked to peatland fires in Indonesia created chronic health risks across Malaysia and Singapore. These events unfolded amid rapid urbanisation, informal settlements in floodplains and coastal zones, aging infrastructure, and uneven governance capacities across subnational levels. You are advising the national/subnational authorities in your country (select ONE: Philippines, Indonesia, or Myanmar) under a collaboration with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre). Drawing on ASEAN frameworks (AADMER), the Sendai Framework, and your chosen countrys DRM program, you are to produce a policy brief. As part of your preparation for the brief, you will address the issues below. Question 1 a) Briefly illustrate FOUR (4) critical gaps in disaster risk management policies and practices in your chosen country by using a concrete example tied to recent hazard events. These gaps may relate to preparedness, mitigation, response, and/or recovery in your country. Then, examine equity implications (who is most affected and why) and feasibility constraints, including capacity, financing, data, and coordination. (20 marks) – 500 words Question 2 a) Analyse FIVE (5) prioritised, actionable risk management strategies for a five-year horizon that directly address the diagnosed gaps you have identified in the previous question. For each strategy, explain the particular hazards that can be addressed by the strategy and provide a clear justification for that strategy. (40 marks) – 1000words b) Identify and examine TWO (2) potential risk reduction mechanisms (from structural, non-structural, nature-based, financial, or institutional categories) for the strategies identified in part 2a. (30 marks) -750words Choose one country, Philippines, Indonesia, or Myanmar, do not exceed 2500words in total
