  • 5-2 Milestone Two

    Scenario

    You are an employee at a community health center that participates in programs to educate about substance abuse. You have been asked to create a short presentation on a particular substance abuse initiative to share with an audience outside of your community health center. These presentations can be critical in sharing accurate, science-based, and timely information with diverse communities. To create your presentation, you will need to research your topic and document your findings.

    In Milestone One, you selected a substance abuse topic and researched both the current state of the topic and the current types of social initiatives relevant to it. In Milestone Two, your research will include current societal initiatives as well as the humanistic perspective and ethical considerations.

    Directions

    In Milestone Two, you will continue to research a number of topics relevant to selected substance abuse and create a log of your findings. You must include the sources of your research.

    Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

    Societal Initiatives Research

    1. Current InitiativesStrengths: Discuss the strengths of the current societal initiatives impacting the selected substance abuse.

    A. Are the initiatives considered to be effective? Why are they considered effective?

    B. Have the current initiatives been more successful than others in the past?

    2. Current InitiativesLimitations: Discuss the limitations of the current societal initiatives impacting the selected substance abuse.

    A. Are certain demographics underserved by the current societal initiatives? If so, what are some

    possible causes?

    B. Have the current initiatives been less successful than others in the past?

    C. What factors have contributed to the initiatives limitations?

    3. Humanistic Perspective: Describe how the principles of the humanistic perspective have impacted

    the current societal initiatives.

    A. What dispositions or behaviors might be common to someone who experiences substance abuse?

    4. Methods of Treatment: Describe how the principles of the humanistic perspective can impact the selected substance abuse treatment methods.

    5. Ethical Considerations: Discuss any ethical considerations that might impact the current societal initiatives.

    A. How are initiatives monitored to ensure that they are ethical? Who sets those standards? Who

    enforces them?

    B. Can an initiative be considered ethical if it is not equally accessible for all populations? Are the

    current initiatives ethical in this way?

    What to Submit

    Your submission should be a 1- to 3-page Microsoft Word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style.
