  • Research Design Paper

    Instructions

For part one of this assignment, write a good summary/overview of what research has shown on your topic to help guide you to an identified research gap that you might research further. Keep in mind that this is a learning exercise, so it does not have to be something that you actually would or plan to research. Ideally, you should use the same topic that you used in the earlier assignment unless there was a reason it would not suffice for this assignment based on the instructor feedback. Remember, it is only a summary/overview, so 2-3 paragraphs should suffice. Avoid the temptation to write in excess which will NOT improve your grade. However, do be sure to include pertinent and sufficient reference to prior research for you and your reader.

Part two will be your methods section, and should include all of the sections and information indicated below. Keep in mind that because this course is a quantitative analysis course, your research must be designed as a quantitative design. Qualitative and quantitative both have their value, and neither are more important than the other. Something qualitative is easier, however, neither is really easier, and sometimes they can be used together. However this course is focused on learning quantitative. Avoid terminology that implies qualitative such as what are the…, how, why etc. Remember that quantitative is countable. That might be is there a difference between, is there association between, is this more likely to happen than that, is there a higher rate of something in one group compared to the other group, etc.. The first paragraph of the methods section should be clearly indicate to your reader what you are researching (usually 1 sentence is sufficient) and should reflect the gap. Then clearly provide your research questions and hypotheses. Your methods section should be identified with a level I heading called methods, and should be divided using level II headings including participants, procedures, instruments, and measures as illustrated below. Review some good quality original research articles reporting quantitative research for examples of how these commonly read.

Be sure to use complete sentences, proper grammar, and proper professional format (e.g. AMA, APA). Your paper should include a title page and reference pages. An abstract or other extraneous pages are not required for this assignment. You should submit your paper as a Word document or PDF file.

Your paper should include the following:

    [Title Page]

    Prior Research (Level I heading)

[Include the summary of existing research and identify the gap to be researched further. 2-3 thorough paragraphs]

    Methods (Level I heading)

    Current Study (level II heading)

[1-2 sentences indicating The current study will…]

Research Question(s): [Give only the questions without additional narrative.]

Hypothesis(es): [Give only the hypotheses without additional narrative.]

    Ha:

    Ho:

Variables: [Identify the independent and dependent variables, or all correlational variables as applicable. Do not give additional narrative.]

    Participants (level II heading)

[This section should adequately describe your sample (adequately representing your population), sampling procedures (i.e. How you will recruit them), necessary ethical information such as informed consent and other protections, and other important information related to a participants section.

    Procedures (level II heading)

[Give an overview of the step-by-step process, you would use to conduct your research. Again, see the research journal articles for good examples of how this is commonly written.]

    Instruments/Materials (level II heading)

[Identify the instruments and materials you will need and used to collect your data. It is not necessary to include superfluous information such as a computer, chairs to sit in, etc.. But do provide anything relevant to the study. For example, you may identify and briefly describe a survey, you will use. Or, if you are measuring depression. For example, you identify that you will be using the Becks Depression inventory and cite it, with a brief description of it. This section does not need to be a lengthy description of each item, but should give your reader a good overview of how and why it would be used. Again, see the journal articles for good examples.]

    Measures (level II heading)

[Here, you will identify the statistical measures you will use to analyze your data. That is, once you get the information, what will you do with it? You should briefly justify your use of statistical measures chosen, but this section generally is not very long at all. If you have multiple parts to a study, be sure to identify what statistic is being used for each part.]

Clinic Performance The Clinic Performance Data Set [XLSX] contains raw data about performance at your clinic from a customer service perspective. Use this data set to complete the following: Organize raw data. Create charts to show your organized data. Analyze data samples. Select data elements to compare. Calculate averages. For example: What is the overall average wait time? What is the average wait time for each physician? What is the overall average visit time? What is the average visit time for each physician? What is the average payment? Perform data mining activities. Compare data elements. For example: How does the average wait time compare to the average visit time? How does the average visit time compare to the average payment? Draw conclusions about clinic physicians and customer service. Describe data sampling methods and the use of data sampling in strategic decision making. Identify at least two different types of data sampling methods. Describe how to use data sampling methods in strategic decision making. Explain if the sample can provide an accurate depiction of clinic performance, noting variations and patterns. Create two recommendations for improving patient service based on the results of your analysis. Nursing Data Nursing Data Set [XLSX] provides information on nursing staff performance on two tasks. The data show that there has been a decrease in productivity for the nursing staff at one of the St. Anthony clinics in the past few months. Organize raw data. Create charts to show your organized data Analyze data samples. Select data elements to compare. Calculate averages. For example: What percentage of RN’s completed tasks? What percentage of LPN’s completed tasks? What is the percentage of tasks completed by units? Perform data mining activities. Compare data elements. Select one of the data mining techniques and perform data mining to determine how the nursing staff performed when completing Task 1 and Task 2. Identify the technique selected. • Grant project: Potential Funders

Identifying Potential Funders to fund your Grant Proposal is an important step in the grant writing process. Effective research must be done to identify Grant Makers that provide the best possible match for both the mission and programs of the organization. By now, your Grant Proposal is written with final touches included. You are now ready for the work of identifying potential Grant Maker suitors using the Foundation DirectoryOnline. The Foundation Directory Online gives you data access to 10,000 possible Grant Makers. The university provides access to the Foundation Directory Online through the Jerry Falwell Library Databases. If you have been surfing their website to acquaint yourself with the different tools and reviewed their tutorials, you should be ready for this assignment. Obviously, if you are having difficulty, contact them. As a subscriber, they will answer questions to assist your efforts. Instructions The assignment is to find 5 potential Grant Makers for your Grant Proposal. When youve found the 5, you then rank them based on your belief of successful funding probability. Provide your reasoning for choosing them and why you ranked them 15. As an attachment to your narrative, you should include copies of their Profiles, printed from the Foundation Directory Online website. These Profiles need to show the 7 critical items mentioned in the presentation, Watch: Identifying Potential Foundations for Funding. Use the Foundation Directory Online to find 5 potential Grant Makers for your Grant Proposal. To access the Foundation Directory Online, use the link provided in the Learn section of the assigned Module: Week. After finding the 5 potential Grant Makers, you will then rank them based on your belief of successful funding probability. Provide your reasoning for choosing them and why you ranked them 15. As an attachment to your narrative, you shouldinclude copies of their Profiles, printed from the Foundation Directory Online website and uploaded as a pdf under the assignment submission link. These Profiles need to highlightthe 7 critical items mentioned in the presentation. Refer to TheWinston-Salem Foundation Profile for an example. This can be found under Grant Project: Potential Funders Resourceslocated on the Grant Project: Potential Funders Assignmentpage. Length of the assignment: 2-page word document providing a rationale for ranking the potential funders from 1-5. The length of each of the 5 highlighted attached profiles will differ. Include a title page and reference page. Format of Assignment: Use current APA style. Number of Citations: Use at least 1 supplementary source. Acceptable Sources: Use current data and references published within the last 5 years. In order to complete this assignment, you will need to access the Jerry Falwell Library Database. I provided you with the link for this with last week’s assignment. You should be familiar with how to access the library since you did so in order to find a funder to address your cover letter to for the assignment. In this week’s Learn Folder you will see the same video you watched last week on how to access the Foundation Directory Online. You can find a foundation through the Foundation Directory Online. This can be accessed through the Jerry Falwell Library Database. Here is a tutorial I shared last week on how to access the Library database and the Foundation Directory Online: . Identifying a potential funder is a very time-consuming process, but most grant seekers determine that it is well worth the effort. The objective of funding your research is to find funders who have the same interests and values in your organization. Download each Foundation profile from the Foundation Directory Online (I have attached a sample Foundation profile – it is also provided with this week’s material in the assignment instructions), save as a pdf file, highlight the 7 critical areas as shown in the attached sample, then upload in the system. Highlight the areas that align with your organizations needs. So, I should see 6 separate items uploaded in the system: the word document with your ranking and rationale and the 5 highlighted profiles in pdf. Do not include a link to the profile site inside of the Word document as I will not be able to open it. Also, you are NOT permitted to retype this information into a word document. However, you may copy and paste the full highlighted profiles into a Word document. Please provide a solid rationale for why you chose and ranked each funder/foundation, showing the distinction among the funders.
