  • Healthcare information security breach and HIPAA compliance

Imagine your smart phone or other hand-held device, has the ability to provide information based on inputted data from a health app on your smartphone to your providers’ patient portal. Your smart phone or device sends an abnormal health update to your patient portal. The provider reviews the abnormal reading and is able to flag any abnormal input as needed; all in an attempt to better manage your health. The provider sends a message for you to contact them and come in for an evaluation. Since the provider was in a hurry and will be seeing other patients, they decided additional information was needed to be sent to you. The provider asks the office staff to send you a regular email explaining why you need to make an appointment to come in and be seen. The office staff accidentally hits the “send all” button and sends the email to other people on your family listserv. Your family calls you and they are upset about what they read. One of the largest problems with healthcare information security has always been inappropriate use by authorized users. Answer the following questions in a voice enhanced power point presentation or video: How would you feel in this situation? What is the problem? (Clearly state the problem) What is the security breach here? How do HIPAA and the HITECH Act help to curb this problem? Suppose you are the privacy officer in the institution, how would you address the problem? What recommendations do you have to prevent future issues? Requirements: Prepare a 10 slide voice enhanced PPT presentation including at least 5 current references , There should be a title slide and a reference slide

During the COVID19 era, virtual visits increased, and many people began to take advantage of this method for their health care needs. Choose two technologies that will make virtual visits easier or convenient or allow the visit to be easier. What problems do you see with these methods of provision of care? Discuss future trends going forward with telehealth or virtual healthcare. Do you think virtual health visits will continue post COVID19 and if so why/why not? Requirements: 2-3 page APA paper excluding Title and Reference page. Use at least 4 current references (not older than 5 years) to support your ideas. Use the WilmU Library’s APA Citation Help page to assist with citation and formatting.

  • Week 3 Checkpoint

Purpose Public health surveillance systems are designed to support decision-making, but the measures they produce do not automatically translate into policy. This checkpoint helps you explore how surveillance data are structured and begin thinking about how epidemiologic measures might be used to support, or question, a public health action. This activity prepares you for the Week 4 Policy Interpretation Brief. Activity Overview You will explore one public health surveillance system, identify epidemiologic measures related to a health issue of interest, and propose a tentative policy-relevant position based on those measures. Before starting this checkpoint, review the Week 4 Policy Interpretation Brief assignment instructions and template. You are not expected to complete the Week 4 assignment yet. Instead, this checkpoint is designed to help you explore surveillance systems and epidemiologic measures with a specific policy-oriented task in mind. The tentative policy position you develop this week is a starting point only and may be revised or replaced in Week 4. Instructions Select a Surveillance System Choose one: CDC WONDER County Health Rankings WHO Global Health Estimates Identify Epidemiologic Measures Locate two epidemiologic measures or population health indicators related to a health issue of interest. For each measure, briefly describe: The name of the measure or indicator The population and time frame represented Why does this measure exist (what public health question is it designed to address?) Do not interpret trends or compare groups yet. Draft a Tentative Policy Position Based on the measures you identified, write a draft policy-relevant position. Examples: Based on current surveillance measures, this health issue appears to warrant prioritization in this population. Existing surveillance indicators are insufficient to justify major policy change. Surveillance measures suggest targeted intervention may be more appropriate than population-wide action. This position is preliminary and may be revised. Anticipated Challenges in Interpretation Briefly reflect on: What uncertainties or limitations have you already noticed in the data What additional information would you want before making a strong policy recommendation Submission Format Short written response (approximately 1-2 double-spaced pages) Bullets and short paragraphs encouraged

Choose a healthcare organization and identify a strategic initiative that is currently underway or proposed as part of a strategic plan. You may use your current employer, another real healthcare organization, or a realistic composite organization; be explicit about which you are using. It is fine to use pseudonyms for privacy reasons. Please prepare a paper that discusses: 1. Context and Strategy (approx. 1 page) Briefly describe the organization (type, size, setting) and its mission/vision/strategic direction. Describe the strategic initiative and why it was chosen (link to a key environmental or internal issue). Identify two critical planning issues the initiative addresses and explain why they are “critical” for this organization. 2. Transition to Implementation (approx. 1-1.5 pages) Using Healthcare Strategic Planning by John Harris and Meredith Inniger, 5* edition, Phase 4 (Transition to Implementation): Discuss three to four of the following for your initiative: Leadership/oversight structure Stakeholder engagement Communication and culture Resources (people, money, technology) Change management/timing Identify one major barner to successful implementation and propose one concrete mitigation strategy, drawing on ideas from the textbook. Explain how you would monitor progress, including: a few key metrics, and how often and by whom progress would be reviewed. 3. 12-18-Month Implementation Snapshot (approx. 1-1.5 pages) Outline a high-level implementation plan for the first 12-18 months. Include at least 5 major actions; for each, state: the action, the responsible role (not a person), approximate timing (e.g., Months 1-3), and one success indicator. Briefly describe who the key stakeholders are and how you would keep them informed during this period. Conclude with one insight you gained from applying the textbook’s framework to a real initiative and how it affects your thinking as a healthcare leader. Format & Grading 3-4 pages excluding title and references pages. Times New Roman; 12; double spaced Use APA 7th edition style for citations and referencing Remember no forms of Al should be used to develop or write this paper Grading Rubric (100 points total) Criteria Depth & clarity of scenario Organization and strategic initiative are clearly described 25% Critical planning issues and context are specific and make sense Quality of implementation analysis Discusses key Phase 4 elements (e.g., leadership, stakeholders, communication, resources, timing). Identifies at least one barrier and a realistic mitigation strategy. 30% Implementation plan realism Provides a 12-18-month high-level plan with about 5 major actions. Lists roles, timing, and success indicators that are realistic for the setting. 30% Professionalism in writing/APA formatting Clear organization, logical flow, mostly error-free. Professional tone appropriate for graduate-level healthcare work 15% Basic APA 7: title page, headings, in-text citations, reference list

You are welcome to find your own resources, but here is a good place to start: Post a description about it and its potential use to improve healthcare. Why is this technology being developed? Is it ready for use yet? What improvements will it make and what types of populations will benefit? What are the pros and cons of using this new technology? List some possible concerns you have about safety or economic issues that it may pose for the consumer. Include a link to a website, if available, on the technology.
