Introduction

The health information management (HIM) professional serves a role in protecting the confidentiality, privacy, and security of the personal health information in a patients health record. An HIM professional is someone who is awarded any American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification (e.g., registered health information administrator [RHIA]).
