In the “Final Paper” students will examine the dynamic nature of healthcare administration and the leadership skills used to manage resources within various environments. For this 3-page paper (not including the title and reference pages), identify at least one current challenge in healthcare delivery and the leadership and problem-solving skills used to improve a healthcare delivery system. Grant funding is essential for many organizations who seek to implement social projects that address various needs in a variety of settings. Funding to implement these programs can be obtained through a public or private source. Public funding is typically granted through government agencies or other local agencies and entities, and private funds are donated mainly through private corporations or organizations. When applying for public funding, the process can be a bit more rigorous and the application process may even take a long time. Private funding, while it can take a little more time to find because they might serve a specific geographic region, population, and provide limitations on giving, the application process may be less rigorous. To understand these 2 major types of funding streams, it is important to take the time to conduct effective research on whether public or private funding is the best route for an organization to take depending on the established criteria. Instructions You will investigate and report about two grant information data reservoirs: one public, Grants.gov, and the other private, Candid, designed to inform organizations about acquiring grant money. Public health and medical professionals must respond to public health emergencies quickly. Therefore, they spend a significant amount of time planning their response so they are prepared to address a public health emergency at a moment’s notice. While these plans are regularly practiced to make sure they are effective, it is uncertain if they will work as expected during a large-scale public health emergency. In addition, the response is meant to immediately prevent further damage or illness, but at times, it can create long-term health problems for responders and citizens.

Choose a public health emergency with a prominent disease aspect. Some examples include the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 (cancer, respiratory disease, etc.), the 2003 SARS-CoV-1 pandemic, Hurricane Katrina (food- and waterborne illness, mold, etc.), the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak, the 2020 SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, or another public health emergency where you can assess the response.

Write an after action report that summarizes the event, the response, what went well, and what needs to be addressed for future public health emergency response.

• Provide an overview of your chosen public health emergency. Include:

1. A general description of what happened.
2. The geographic location. If the geographic location was worldwide or impacted a broad area, choose a community to discuss. This includes your local community if it was impacted.
3. The populations within the community that were impacted and how they were affected.

Description of Pathology:

• Start the paper on a new page.
• In this section, you will describe the pathology (statistics about it, background information, etc.). Give as much information as you can about it but be sure it is relevant information and not just filler. It should be a comprehensive introductory section of the condition in one to two paragraphs.

Normal anatomy of the major body system affected: In this section, you will describe what is considered normal anatomy for your particular pathophysiology. For example, if you are discussing a disease related to the brain, explain what is normal for the brain from an anatomical standpoint. You should show comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts and communicate information using scientific vocabulary. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section.

Normal physiology of the major body system affected: In this section, you will be discussing physiology. Keep in mind that when describing physiology, it isnt enough to merely provide a list of functions of the body system (Ex: Neurons send signals throughout the body), instead, you need to be able to describe how it does it. The how is the physiology. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section

Mechanism of Pathophysiology: This section is likely going to be the most in-depth and longest section. In this section, you will explain your particular pathophysiology from a scientific standpoint. In the previous two sections, you explained what is considered normal, in this section, you should describe what the pathophysiology is doing that is causing these issues, how the normal anatomy & physiology is affected/different in a person with your condition. You should show a thorough understanding of the anatomical and physiological changes contributing to the disease. Some good keywords to search for when doing your research might be “Pathology of __________, Pathophysiology of __________.”

Prevention: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology could be prevented. This should outline possible prevention protocols, or clearly indicate if none is available based on the current scientific literature.

Treatment: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology is commonly treated. Provide possible treatment protocols for the condition based on current scientific literature. Be sure to bring in nursing relevant information and how you might be involved in the treatment of the condition.

Conclusion: Finally you should summarize your findings. All good research papers should include a conclusion where you wrap up and summarize all of the important points made in your paper.

• As with the Title page, this should be a separate page by itself.
• All references should be included in correct and complete APA format.
