  • EHR Adoptions and Benefits

Develop a 2-3 page review of an EHR in which you identify EHR benefits, limitations, challenges, and applications. You will combine your experiences in the EHR Go activities with information from a case study.

    Expand AllIntroduction

In this course, you will have the opportunity to get your hands on an electronic health record (EHR)! The EHR is a systema group of elements working together to perform a function. HIM professionals need to be subject matter experts on the EHR’s various parts and how they are connected (Amatayakul, 2017).

Additionally, you will use your knowledge of the different systems to identify benefits, limitations, and challenges to using EHR. The textbook readings provide many benefits and hints at the limitations and challenges. Use your work in the EHR to help identify benefits and challenges.

Finally, you will compare how the benefits and challenges balance against each another. This involves the setting of goals for EHR use and strategic planning for the implementation of an EHR. Strategic planning includes setting priorities, such as deciding which applications are needed versus only desired. And, what should be the sequence of application implementation? The EHR Go activity will help you identify when applications are needed and which are nice to have.

    Preparation

The four assessments in this course require similar types of preparation:

    • Complete EHR Go activities.
    • Review a case study.
    • Conduct independent research into various aspects of EHRs.

Details vary from assessment to assessment. Each assessment has a different focus and different scoring guide criteria. Please see the details listed below to successfully complete Assessment 1.

    Case Studies

Each course assessment requires you to select a case study to analyze and then incorporate into the assessment. Choosing case studies that allow you to meet each assessment’s scoring guide criteria is your responsibility. Please review the case study resources now to ease your path to assessment completion. For this first assessment, select a case study that focuses on EHR characteristics and/or EHR applications.
