  • Proposal Assignment

    Good afternoon,

Looking at this weeks assignment, Ive already started a thread in the Team Forum. Since the instructor wants to see collaboration and feedback, I suggest we use the Team Forum as our main space instead of email. Well likely also need at least one virtual meeting to discuss everything together.

For this week, we need to choose one sustainability-related initiative that we want to apply to one of our individual organizations. Ill create a new thread in the forum titled Unit 4 Assignment Organization Choice. Please post:

    • The organization youre using for your individual assignment
    • A sustainability-related initiative you would propose for that organization

Once everyone has shared, we can review the options, choose one initiative as a team, and move forward with the assignment.

Please have this 1st step completed by 31 January 2026 @ 10am EST – this will allow everyone a day to review and give their opinion on what is the best choice for us to work on as a team.

Then we can meet virtually on Sunday 1 February 2026 in the morning to decide, so we can make a decision and get to working. With there being 4 distinct sections required. I don’t think it will take too long for everyone to complete a section by Monday 2 February at 6pm EST, so then I have some time to work on compiling all information into 1 document and having it done by mid-day Tuesday…so I can turn it in as a team and everyone can turn it in individually as stated in his directions for the week.

    Thank you,

    Tracy

  • Regulating Employment

    1. Review Exhibit 1.1 in your assigned reading, Realities about the Regulation of Employment. Do you believe these realities? Why? Have you had any experience with any of these issues? Is there a difference in connection with these realities between what the law says and how it is implemented in the workplace?

    2. Twenty-five former student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs”) who attended a masters degree program at Wolford College, LLC, were required to participate in a clinical curriculum, which, under Florida law, was a prerequisite to obtaining their masters degrees. The students had to participate in a minimum of 550 clinical cases in a variety of surgical procedures. The patients with whom these students worked paid the hospitals or clinics for these surgical services through their health insurance or out of pocket. The students received none of that money. The students sued to receive unpaid wages and overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act for their clinical hours. The Eleventh Circuit found it appropriate to “focus on the benefits to the student while still considering whether the manner in which the employer implements the internship program takes unfair advantage of or is otherwise abusive towards the students.”

Do you think the student interns were employees entitled to wages? Do you think there are scenarios where interns should not be entitled to wages? If the court does find that these students are entitled to wages, who then is liable: the university or the clinics? [Schumann v. Collier Anesthesia, P.A., 803 F.3d 1199, 1209-12 (11th Cir. 2015)]

    3. Uber Technologies, Inc. develops, markets and operates the Uber app. The app allows consumers to request an Uber driver to pick them up and drop them off at the nearest location. Uber drivers use their own personal cars and are viewed by Uber as independent contractors. Uber views the app as a conduit between the transportation providers and passengers. A passenger brought action against Uber after the Uber driver stabbed the passenger following an alteration. The passenger alleged that Uber was liable for negligent hiring, training, and supervision.

Should Uber be held liable for the actions of its driver? What must the passenger prove to win this case? [Search v. Uber Techs., Inc., 128 F. Supp. 3d 222 (D.D.C. 2015).]

  • Project draft

    Overview

In this assignment, you will use the work you have already completed to begin forming the introduction of your project. Specifically, this assignment will assist you with continuing to work with identifying the topic of the text, describing the writers purpose, articulating the core idea of the text, and summarizing details of the text that are relevant to the core idea. These steps will help you develop the hook and context sentences that you studied in this module and combine them with the thesis statement from the previous assignment to form a full introductory paragraph for your analysis project.

    Directions

For this assignment, you will write an introduction for the first version of your paper. You have already identified the topic, the audience and their needs, and the writing situation. Additionally, you have written a thesis statement. Now, it is time to put all these elements together to form the introduction.

According to the authors of your textbook, Ruszkiewicz and Dolmage (2022), an introductory paragraph has four purposes:

To draw your reader into the paper

To introduce the topic of the paper

    To provide some background information

To present the main idea (thesis statement) of the paper

Address each of these four purposes by composing an introductory paragraph using the template linked in the What to Submit section.

    Notes:

Introducing the topic and providing some background information can be combined to form an overview of the topic.

The terms essay and paper are synonymous regarding the textbook language and this assignment.

The terms main idea and core idea are synonymous regarding the textbook language and this assignment.

Reference: Ruszkiewicz, J. J., & Dolmage, J. T. (2022). How to write anything: A guide and reference with readings. 5th ed. Bedford/St. Martins.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

Draw the Reader: Write sentences to draw the reader into the paper.

These sentences represent the hook or attention-grabber for the introduction.

This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Provide an Overview of the Topic: Write sentences to provide an overview of the topic, including the title and author of the reading that you selected.

Introduce the topic of the paper, including the title and author of the reading that you selected. This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Provide background information for your audience. Summarize the reading briefly and highlight primary details from it. This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Thesis Statement: Include the thesis statement you created in the previous assignment in Module Four.

This part of your introduction should be one sentence long.

This section is where you will use your thesis statement from the previous assignment in Module Four.

Form an Introductory Paragraph: Compile all sections to form an introductory paragraph.

Compile sections 13 of this assignment to form a paragraph.

To do this, you will have to copy and paste your previous responses and combine them into an introductory paragraph.

    Example in files.
