Topic created from experience and assignments in your textbook. Summary -Some historians and other scholars believe our world is undergoing a transformation more profound and far-reaching than any experienced since the dawn of the modern age and the Industrial Revolution more than 500 years ago. This transformation requires a transition from a traditional to a new leadership paradigm. A paradigm is a shared mindset that represents a fundamental way of thinking about, perceiving, and understanding the world. Although many leaders are still operating from an old-paradigm mindset, they are increasingly ineffective. Successful leaders will respond to the new reality. Another shift is the move from celebrating the leader-as-hero or heroine to recognizing the hard-working behind-the-scenes leader who quietly builds a strong enduring company by supporting and developing others rather than touting his or her own abilities and successes. One reason for the shift from hero to humble is that it is less and less realistic for an individual leader to meet all the challenges a team or organization faces in a complex and rapidly changing world. Another is that ambitious, highly self-confident, charismatic leaders have been at the forefront of some of the ethical scandals and business failures of recent years. Consider This: Question 1: Should Leaders Live by the cowboy/cowgirl Code? Question 1A: Although the Old West is now found in movies and series, how has the old west influenced you up to this point in your life? Is it relevant in any way? Explain Question 2: Can you become a Level 5 leader found on page 13? What is it about and why may it help you in your career? A cowboy/cowgirl (from this point on, cowboy refers to both female and male) never takes unfair advantageeven of an enemy. A cowboy never goes back on his word or betrays a trust. A cowboy always tells the truth. A cowboy is kind and gentle with children, the elderly, and animals. A cowboy is free from racial or religious prejudice. A cowboy is always helpful and lends a hand when anyone is in trouble. A cowboy is a good worker. A cowboy stays clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits. A cowboy respects womanhood/[manhood], parents, and the laws of his nation. A cowboy is a patriot to his country. These leaders are characterized by an almost complete lack of ego, coupled with a fierce resolve to do what is best for the organization. They accept full responsibility for mistakes, poor results, or failures, but they typically give credit for successes to other people. Instructions: How can you relate to the cowboy/cowgirl code in the work that you do, your personal life, and your dedication to your country? Create a paragraph or two, post it to a new thread for this discussion. Then, respond to at least one other student’s thread. -

Skim over Kahneman Part 4. In this section, Kahneman discusses ten psychological constructs – Chapters 25 to 34 – that people commonly use when making decisions.
Select one of the psychological constructs discussed in that section that you feel applies strongly to you in that it often, or easily, influences how you make decisions.
Original Post
- Give the name of the construct/chapter.
- Describe a situation where you used this construct in making a decision. Be precise and clear. Points will be deducted for vagueness and generalities.
- Tell us how you would approach that decision if you had to make it now, having studied Kahneman for several weeks.
- Give your reasons, and be clear and precise.
- If you would not change a thing about how you made the decision, state that, and give a substantive account of why not, and make reference to Kahneman’s work in your account.
- If you would change how you made the decision, tell us how you would change it, and why you would change it. In this account, make reference to Kahneman’s work.
For 3.1 and 3.2 – “Reference to Kahneman’s work” means reference to any of his work you have studied this semester, not necessarily just from Part 4 of the book. You do not need to use APA format, you can just use a shorthand way to show us you understand where Kahneman’s work fits in with your decision making process. Here are some examples of shorthand ways to reference him where you reflect on your decision you described. Because everyone reading your original post is by now familiar with Kahneman, you can use the shorthand approach and people will understand what you are referring to.
Examples:
“I can now see that when I [made that decision] it helped me that I was using my System 2. Had I only used my System 1, the decision would have had [these consequences], because of [these reasons].”
“Having read this section, I now see how how the endowment effect played a role in my decision. I used a reference point that I just chose arbitrarily. Overconfidence made me think that I was smart enough to come up with a good reference point, without researching it first.”
(For clarity’s sake, I emphasized the Kahneman concepts above by using bold. You do not need to put them in bold.)
Peer Response
Respond to at least one peer. This response can be quick and casual, it does not have to be substantive. It could just signal to your peer that you empathize with them, or that you are prone to the same issue, or that you are surprised by what they described because you have never thought of it before, etc. A one sentence response is fine. You can also just post a meme to respond to them, or one of your favorite quotes or aphorisms, or a cartoon.
Points: 7 points for OP. 1 point for PR.
