  • Ethical accountability and civilian harm in U.S. drone warfa…

The Full Draft version of your research paper, submitted in this module, will be approximately 10 pages in length (i.e., approximately 2,500 words with 12-point font and double-spacing). You will receive feedback from your instructor in Module 7, leading to your final submission of the paper in Module 8. Primary Questions With the topic you have selected and researched across the term, you are required to address yourself, as much as is practicable, to these specific prompts: Identify the ethical dilemma, relationship, case, or issue/subject you are studying, and explain why it is significant, both to you and the U.S. national security community writ large. Provide relevant background on your research topic. If any, what have been the prior decisions or ethical baggage that has affected the current reality of the relationship, dilemma, case etc.? What key constituencies, interests, or stakeholders are involved in your study and how do they weigh in on your subject? How are ethical considerations present in your chosen topic, and which ethical principles are most at play in your chosen subject? You may shape the analysis of your topic through one or more relevant ethical viewpoints, including, eventually, your own. Through your analysis, what problems or dilemmas in national security are you uncovering in your research, and how might the situation or condition be remedied? What possible solutions can you recommend to the national security community, or the broader public? Finally, in your conclusion, how can what you have analyzed lead to improved practices, operations etc. in the relevant national security domain you investigated? Assume you are briefing someone senior, and lay out your assessments, conclusions and recommendations to the relevant national security community. Your final research paper submission will be evaluated in terms of how thoroughly you: answer the questions above; use resources to document your main points; and properly cite referenced work. Your essay should address all of the questions above and should consist of approximately 2,500 words of text (approximately 10 pages of double-spaced and 12 point font of text). Be sure to include specific examples and references from your research and any additional references you would like to include. Use in-text citations and a reference list that will make up an additional page. Below are helpful journals and research sites as well as more guidance on research paper formatting.

  • INTL 501 W2

For this week’s discussion, use the APUS Trefry Library ( The PDF file uploaded) to locate a credible, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article about US national security intelligence published within the past three (3) years, that is not “open access.” Once you have found a relevant article of interest to you, develop an initial post that provides the following information:

    • A properly formatted CMOS 18 author-date reference list citation for the peer-reviewed journal article you selected at the top of your post. Be sure you include the URL location of the article in the Trefry Library.
    • Summarize the article in not more than 2 paragraphs. Provide two fully developed paragraphs of at least three sentences each (like an annotated bibliography). Therefore, you will need to select an article with sufficient content and write concisely. Do not include any quotes from the article in your summary. HINT: Be sure you read the required reading explaining how to read journal articles.
    • Assess whether the information in the article you selected is applicable to the field. Could practitioners in the US IC use the information, or is it purely academic/theoretical? Provide one fully developed paragraph of at least three sentences in your assessment. Don’t forget to cite to give credit to the sources that informed your assessment of the article as practical or academic/theoretical.

This discussion enables students to gain practical experience using the APUS Trefry Library resources while practicing information literacy, critical thinking, and critical reading skills. In addition, this discussion will also expand your knowledge of intelligence by reading article summaries posted by classmates.

Post a draft of the Executive Summary of your Report in this discussion, and provide feedback on a classmates draft. our summary draft should follow the “Overview of an Executive Summary” example in format and structure. Keep in mind that an Executive Summary is often the most read part of a report. It might also be the ONLY part of a report someone reads to form an idea of that reports purpose and content. • Ethical Failure at the point of convenience: How small Inter…

This essay examines how small ethical lapses, often made at the point of convenience, can undermine trust, authority, and the Army profession. As a senior MS4 ROTC cadet preparing to commission in a few months, I am at a critical point where my actions directly reflect my readiness to serve as an Army officer. Recent incidents involving poor time management, repeated lateness to formations and battalion events, and a lapse in judgment regarding academic integrity highlighted how seemingly minor decisions can erode trust and credibility over time.

This writing is intended as a personal reflection on how integrity is not only tested in major moral dilemmas, but more often in everyday decisionsmeeting deadlines, being present, and adhering to standards when it is inconvenient. The essay connects these experiences to the Army Ethic, emphasizing that trust and authority are built through consistent discipline and reliability. As I approach commissioning, this reflection serves as a reminder that ethical leadership begins with personal accountability and that small integrity violations, if left uncorrected, can have lasting consequences for both individual leaders and the profession they represent.
