Microbial Case StudyConduct research on Giardia lamblia and respond to the following questions, using at least two sources in your research. Links to several resources are provided in the Study Materials, but you can use outside sources as well. All sources must be cited in APA Style.
Your overall responses should be approximately 500 to 600 words (2 pages) in length.
- What is the estimated size of the trophozoite form of Giardia? How does this compare to the size of most bacteria?
- Is it possible to view Giardia with a compound light microscope? How do you know? When viewing Giardia, how can you distinguish the trophozoite from the cyst form?
- Is Giardia a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell? How do you know?
- How is Giardia classified? In what domain does it belong?
- What kind of illness does Giardia cause?
After reviewing the life cycle of Giardia, respond to the following questions:
- If a person has ingested Giardia, what form was it most likely in?
- A fecal sample is being observed under magnification for the presence of Giardia. If present, what form would you expect to see?
- Samples are collected from a stream that is suspected to harbor Giardia. Which form of the pathogen would you expect to find in the water samples?
Read the article from the journal, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and then respond to the following questions:
- Based on Figure 1, what year had the most cases of giardiasis? Which year had the fewest? What is the general trend in cases during the times reported in the article?
- Based on the maps in Figure 2, which region of the country typically has more cases of giardiasis? Make a prediction as to why this region has the most cases of giardiasis. [MO 1.1, MO 1.3]

Case Study
Anastasias first prenatal visit illustrates the challenges refugees face when navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system, highlighting the need for culturally sensitive, traumainformed nursing care. Background: Anastasia is a 22-year-old pregnant Ukrainian refugee who has recently resettled in the Orlando area. She speaks limited English and is accompanied by her 10-year-old brother, who tries to translate. She is quiet and hesitant to answer questions about her medical history, and she seems confused by the paperwork. Questions for Analysis: What cultural and communication barriers are present? What are the ethical and legal concerns of using a child interpreter? How can the nurse respond to Anastasias needs using trauma-informed, culturally respectful care? What referrals or support services might help her? Any other issues to be concerned about? Please complete and submit your case study in a Word document, minimum of two (2) pages excluding a title and reference page (so you will have a minimum of four (4) pages in total), properly formatted according to the APA Student Paper guidelines. Additionally, please review the grading rubric to ensure that all aspects of the study have been met. -

Write your PICOT question. Discuss the qualitative nature and purpose of the study you have chosen. How do you know this is a qualitative study? What type of qualitative study is it? What is the purpose of the study?
PICOT question:
In hospitalized patients (P), how does nurse training and consistent implementation of pressure injury prevention protocols (I), compared to no standardized training and inconsistent implementation (C), influence the development of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (O) during their hospital stay (T)?
This is a qualitative study because it provides insight into nurses experiences, behaviors, and beliefs related to pressure injury prevention through interviews. This is a descriptive qualitative study, which is used to describe nurses experiences with pressure injury prevention in clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to understand nurses perspectives and explore what strategies they use to guide their practice (Li et al., 2022).
2. Discuss the method of the study. How did the researchers collect the data? Is this method adequate to address the purpose of the study? What is the sample in the study, and is it appropriate, given the method?
For this study, the researchers met with 27 registered nurses to conduct interviews. The interviews were audio-recorded, and data were collected from the nurses responses. This interview method is adequate for the study because it allows the researchers to gain a deeper understanding of nurses perceptions and experiences related to pressure injury prevention practices. The sample for this study included 27 registered nurses. This is an appropriate sample size because it provides sufficient information to explore their experiences and insights.
3. Summarize the findings of the study. What is the projected significance of the study to nursing? What are the recommendations for future study?
This study is significant to nursing because pressure injuries are still an ongoing critical problem in hospitals. Nurses perceptions and experiences influence how pressure injury prevention protocols are implemented and carried out in clinical practice. This is why it is essential to strengthen pressure injury prevention efforts through consistent implementation, staff training, and improved nursing policies. For future study, I would recommend examining patients perspectives on pressure injury prevention to improve education and reduce complications (Roderman et al., 2024). I would also recommend testing interventions that address the barriers nurses experience in order to improve compliance and patient outcomes.
