Each student is required to present one case study presentation. The purpose of the case study presentation is to exhibit clinical reasoning skills related to diagnosis and management of the adult trauma patient. (Systems thinking, Caring practice, Advocacy/moral agency, & Ethical responsibilities)

Each student is required to complete two rapid-fire report by the end of the term. The purpose of this rapid-fire report is to obtain practice with oral synthesis of patient data by the use of a systematic and organized format. The rapid-fire report should include the following elements: identifying data, chief complaint, HPI, PMH (ROS, psychosocial, etc), physical examination, lab and diagnostic tests, impression and problem list and plan. The rapid-fire report should be no longer than 10 minutes. (Systems thinking & Clinical inquiry)

Information & Guidelines:

Nurses in various healthcare settings work with clients with acute and chronic health conditions. It is critical for the nurse to know how to address the needs of these vulnerable clients and their families competently. This requires nurses to know the underlying causes and manifestations of a variety of common medical diagnoses and their impact on client self-care, individual development, and family function. This assignment will give students the chance to explore one acute or chronic condition affecting adults and discuss the nurse’s role in caring for clients with these conditions.

• Each student will select a chronic health diagnosis that impacts adults during the first week of the term. Topics may include but are not limited to: Asthma, COPD, Heart Failure, CVA, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, BPH, Acute Kidney Injury, and Pneumonia
• Students will conduct research into the specific disorder and complete a professional paper about the condition. Details about content are noted below.
• Students will follow the KCC Nursing Program Written Paper Guidelines for professional papers (cover page, APA (American Psychological Association) format, etc.) as well as the Written Paper Policy for submission as stated in the Nursing Program Student Handbook. The professional paper is a research paper, therefore multiple peer-reviewed, evidence-based resources should be utilized to produce the document. It is expected students will synthesize references and sources into all components of their papers and not just utilize their textbooks and/or one singular source for any one component of the paper.
• The ability to synthesize information into one’s own words is a hallmark of professional writing and is an expectation on this professional paper and subsequent discussion board posts. Paraphrasing your sources, as opposed to direct quotation, should be done whenever possible to demonstrate that you understand what the author of your source was trying to articulate and can share what you learned in your own words.
• Introduction: In 1-2 paragraphs, introduce the acute/chronic health condition. Include current data regarding the prevalence of the disorder nationally and globally.
• Body of the paper: The following content must be included: 1.) common manifestations and causes of the underlying acute/chronic medical diagnosis; 2.) common manifestations of an acute condition and/or exacerbation of a chronic condition; 3.) psychosocial issues related to the diagnosis including the potential impact of the acute/chronic medical condition on client self-care, individual development, and family function; and 4.) at least four common nursing diagnoses associated with the acute condition and/or exacerbation of the chronic condition. One of the diagnoses (of the four) should be psychosocial.
• Conclusion: In 1-2 paragraphs, provide a summary of the main points of the paper that provides a summative closure to the content.
• The paper will be approximately 4-6 pages in length (excluding the reference page).
• Save your paper by topic and last name.
• Submit paper via the assignment section in Canvas.
• Students are responsible for ensuring their papers have been submitted properly and received by the instructor.
• Reference expectations: A minimum of three (3) credible and reliable sources are required for this paper. At least one (1) source will come from a resource other than a required textbook.

The paper must be a strict 7 pages of text, exclusive of the title and references pages. It must be formatted in APA 7th edition; using Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced (including headings & references). In the literature review section, 5 journals must be used of which 3 MUST be nursing journals; and please do not utilized blocked domains.
