Imagine that you are an English teacher in a high school in a very diverse community in an

American city. The community residents have emigrated from many different countries in search

of social and economic opportunities. Many of the residents have limited incomes and work in

low-level jobs and struggle with English proficiency. Many firmly believe in the value of education

and make certain that the children attend school.

One thing that you, the teacher, have noticed is that the knowledge of health promotion and

disease prevention is limited. You have decided that you may be able to help them, and possibly

their families, by providing some health education opportunities both in the classroom and in

special after-school meetings.

You decide to develop a health education plan that can be tested initially with a small group of

students and then expanded as you see what works. Having discussed the project with some of the

students, you decide, based on their recommendations, to focus on cardiovascular and cancer risk

factors: smoking, overweight, and exercise in an after-school program.

If you were the teacher, how would you proceed?

Questions

Reflective Journal on Meeting AACN Essentials Guidelines

Informatics and Healthcare Technologies (Essential V): Prepares students to utilize data collection tools and informatics in healthcare settings, enhancing care delivery and coordination through technological advancements.

Health Policy and Advocacy (Indirectly Addressed): Discussions on research ethics and policy implications prepare students to engage in advocacy and influence health policy for improved patient outcomes.

Reflect on how you have personally met AACN Essentials II, IV, and V throughout this course.

Clearly identify each essential as a title heading.

Write in the first person using “Me” and “I” statements.

Each section should be approximately 100 words.

The use of spirituality in nursing practice is not new. However, it is more studied and utilized in a more structured format in nursing. Identify and discuss tools used to evaluate spirituality.

(such as yearly eval from boss) However, if you don’t have something like this- no worries, just write “do not have yet” or something to that effect so I know that you did not just skip the section

Recommendations

List at least three individuals you know professionally. They must have at least a MSN.

I don’t expect someone to write you a letter of recommendation for this assignment– all I expect is a name and contact infocan be email (preferred) or phone or address (I will not be contacting- this is just to help you start getting that type of info ready in preparation for job applications). If you already have a letter, you can certainly submit that.
