    Requirements:

  • Cranial and spinal nerve research

You are to write a discussion of a clinical case study, providing logical and critical analysis of the material learned with respect to cranial and spinal nerves. Your paper discussion requires the have the following elements.

A Proper Title with your name and CWID under it.

A heading called Introduction ( max. 250 words)

    • This introduction section needs to have a few paragraphs, introducing cranial and spinal nerves and their main function.
    • It needs to have an elaboration into the clinical significance with respect to examination of their functions.
    • Add a final paragraph that indicates that the purpose of this paper is to examine a medical case study to critically analyze symptoms and correlate those with specific nerves.

A heading called Case Study (this has 138 words)

In this section, just copy paste the following

A 55 year old male recently got in car accident. A car struck his car from the left side and the patient was not wearing a seat belt. While the impact was not severe, the patients head and shoulder received a strong impact into the drivers side of the car.

The patient presents the following symptoms: right eye is normal, but left eye indicates mydriasis, ptosis and a down and out left tilt to the eye. Although the right eye seems to present as normal, the patient indicates that the reason for the accident was that he seemed to have lost some vision in his right eye before the impact. The doctor suspects the normal eye to have initial stages of left nasal hemianopsia. Finally, the patient also complains about persistent tingling in left pinky and ring finger.

A heading called Analysis and Discussion ( max. 500 words)

    • In this section, you will provide a logical discussion of the symptoms with arguments for and against the choice for which nerve you think is involved with the symptoms.
    • Start your first paragraph with the eye symptoms first. Using proper constructed sentences, explain the terms Mydriasis and Ptosis. Then, using logical and critical thinking, explain what cranial nerves could be involved and which ones are obviously not a good candidate. Present 5 obvious cranial nerves, with their function and thus the reason for inclusion/exclusion. Using more detailed information, determine now which cranial nerve is the culprit and back up your conclusion.
    • In a second paragraph, approach the second issue: hemianospia. Once again, explain the terminology. This requires a small discussion on visual pathways and then a few proper possibilities for the reason the patient has this issue.
    • In a final paragraph, why do you think this patient is having the finger issues ? Once again, use proper arguments (for and against) in your analysis.

A last heading called Conclusion (max. 100 words)

    • In this section, summarize all the suspected problems this patient is facing and conclude with your suggestion for an additional follow- up examination or procedure to be recommended in order to make an exact decisions.

Your paper needs to be at least 1000 words but not exceed 1200 words ( spaces dont count), The writing above has a total of ~ 500 words. The Title, Headings, Case Study already make up ~150 words. Thus, your contribution will be between 800 – 1000 words. Use 12 font, double spaced with a 1 inch margin. A non-science person should be able to read this paper and be better informed ( and not become more confused). An additional link is provided in your Canvas with a grading rubric and an example of how such a paper should look like.

  • Middle range theories in nursing research

    Discussion Post Topic:

Identifying Perspectives: Two Middle-Range Theories in Relation to a Phenomenon of Interest

    Instructions:

    Select Your Theories and Phenomenon:

    • Begin by clearly stating the phenomenon of interest you wish to explore.
    • Identify two middle-range theories from the course that provide distinct lenses for understanding this phenomenon. Ensure that your choice is well grounded in the literature and relevant to the phenomenon you are addressing.

    Explain Each Theory:

    • For each selected middle-range theory, provide a concise explanation of its core concepts, assumptions, and purpose.
    • Discuss the theoretical framework and how the theory is typically applied in nursing practice or research.

    Compare and Contrast the Perspectives:

    • Comparison: Explain the similarities between the two theories regarding their approach to the phenomenon. Identify any overlapping concepts, shared assumptions, or common outcomes they may emphasize.
    • Contrast: Highlight the differences between them. Discuss how each theory uniquely shapes the understanding of the phenomenon, addressing aspects such as:
    • The theoretical constructs used to describe the phenomenon.
    • The implications for nursing practice or research that result from using one theory over the other.
    • Potential strengths and limitations of each theoretical perspective in capturing the nuances of the phenomenon.

    Incorporate Evidence-Based Support:

    • Use at least two scholarly references (peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, or reputable sources) that detail how these middle-range theories have been applied or studied in relation to similar phenomena.
    • Summarize the key findings of these sources to support your analysis, and ensure that all citations follow APA 7th Edition guidelines.

    Organize Your Post:

    • Introduction: Briefly introduce the phenomenon you will be discussing and state the two middle-range theories you have chosen. Provide context for why these theories are pertinent to your phenomenon.
    • Body:
    • Describe each theory individually, explaining its concepts and relevance to the phenomenon.
    • Include a section that directly compares and contrasts how each theory shapes your understanding of the phenomenon. Use subheadings or bullet points if needed to enhance clarity.
    • Conclusion: Summarize your key points, emphasizing how each theoretical perspective contributes a unique understanding of the phenomenon and its implications for practice or further research.

    Final Considerations:

    • Make sure your discussion is clear, evidence-based, and reflective of graduate-level critical analysis.
    • Use proper APA formatting throughout your post, including in-text citations and a reference list.
    • Engage with any assigned rubrics or additional guidelines provided by your instructor to ensure your post meets all expected criteria.

By following these detailed instructions, you will create a comprehensive discussion post that not only identifies two middle-range theories relevant to your chosen phenomenon but also critically compares and contrasts their unique contributions. This will help you and your peers deepen your understanding of how theoretical frameworks shape nursing practice and research. Happy writing!

As a reminder, all discussion posts must be a minimum of 350 words initial and 250 words peer responses, references must be cited in APA format 7th Edition and must include a minimum of 2 scholarly resources published within the past 5 years.

Only one post PER day to count for credit. Please ensure you can LOOK UP your reference from your citation submission.
