As a healthcare provider, it’s essential to understand the relationship between economics, resources, budgeting, and staffing, and how these issues affect the ability to provide safe, quality care to patients. In this assignment, you will analyze the financial impact of a policy implementation on a healthcare organization’s budget.

Assignment Instructions:

Referring to your Unit 3 Policy Implementation Paper, analyze your healthcare organization’s capital or operating budget and discuss how your proposed policy changes would impact the organization Create a slide presentation of your findings and recommendations for stakeholders.

Budget Analysis (2-3 slides)

Obtain a current or previous capital or operating budget or annual report that exists within your healthcare organization from your supervisor or research a healthcare organization budget that is publicly available. Include background information and some context about the healthcare organization. Include a copy of the budget as one of the slides in the presentation.

• Identify the components of the budget and describe which categories are impacted by patient outcomes (e.g., patient satisfaction, HCAHAP scores, length of stay, readmissions).
• Discuss the relationship between the budget categories and patient care.

Recommendations for Improvement (3-4 slides)

• Review the budget and identify expected or unexpected items or outliers.
• Make general recommendations as if you were presenting to the appropriate leader of your organization about areas that should be cut, reappropriated, or realigned to improve the issue, opportunity, or concern identified.
• Develop specific recommendations for the appropriate leader about one area of focus within the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, reflecting on this budget and your current practice.

Policy Implementation and Budget Impact (5-6 slides)

• Referring to the organizational policy changes you recommended in Unit 3, discuss both the positive and negative financial implications of your proposed policy.
• Outline the policy review process and procedures at your local organization.
• Given the opportunity to make revisions to your existing or proposed policy, outline the next steps, considerations, and timeline.
• What resources would be needed to implement the proposed policy changes
• Reviewing your presented budget, what line items could be adjusted to support the policy change and resources required?

Conclusion & Reflection (1-2 slides)

• Summarize your policy justification and identification.
• Synthesize your suggested recommendations for policy improvement.
• Reflect on the process by discussing:
• What aspects of the policy analysis and budget projection were the most challenging, and which were the most straightforward?
• What is your most important takeaway regarding the relationship between healthcare policy and financial management?
• How will this exercise in linking a policy to its financial implications influence your future decision-making as a healthcare provider or leader?

Weekly Discussion: 5 (USLO 5.2)

Fiscal management in a healthcare system is directly influenced by nursing practice and health outcomes. When budgeting, Capital and Operational expenses in healthcare budgets must be considered. Capital expenses are long-term investments such as buildings, equipment, and technology. In contrast, Operational expenditures are the daily costs, including salaries, disposable supplies, and utilities.

• Consider a scenario where you are appointed to serve on an advisory committee for investigating the integration of AI technology in your organization and the impact of this technology on your hospitals budget.
• In your discussion response, identify the AI technology you propose for your organization to adopt.
• How would the integration of AI technology enhance cost-effective care and patient outcomes at your organization?
• How would the integration of the AI technology impact the organizations capital budget?
• How would the integration of the AI technology impact the organizations operational budget?

I work in women’s services in a big hospital.

For the week 5 discussion, please refer to part 2 of the population health assessment. Review the data you collected and select two specific resources to discuss. Include the data and rationale for the resource selection. Apply the resource to multiple age groups within the identified population. For example, the American Heart Association may have local chapters that address pediatric cardiovascular issues as well as support systems for older adults with heart failure.
