  • Ethical dilemma in nursing leadership and end-of-life care

Scenario: You are the charge nurse on a busy medical-surgical unit. One of your patients, Mr. R., is a 78-year-old man with end-stage heart failure. He has a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) and a do-not-intubate (DNI) order on file, but his family members are now insisting that everything possible be done to prolong his life. Your bedside staff nurse, a new graduate, is in tears as she feels like she is hurting the patient while following the family’s new demands, and comes to you for advice. The attending physician has not been at the bedside to address the family, and the patient is no longer able to communicate on his own. Write a 2-3 page paper that addresses the following: Case Analysis Identify the ethical dilemma What are the conflicting values? Role of leadership How should you, as the nurse leader, support the patient’s rights and the staff nurse in distress? Decision-Making How does the American Association of Nurses’ Code of Ethics affect this scenario? AI Exploration Use an AI tool to help broaden your perspective. Copy your prompt as your first sentence. Compare the suggestions received from the AI tool with your own analysis. Reflection Did your AI resource highlight a solution that you did not think of? How could AI be useful when analyzing ethically complex cases like Mr. R? Do you think that AI could be a reliable tool in ethically challenging cases such as this one? Why or why not? Formatting 2-3 page paper (not including title and references pages) in APA 7 format At least 2 scholarly sources

  • Interprofessional communication and teamwork in healthcare

Valley Regional Hospital is a mid-sized acute care facility with a busy emergency department and multiple inpatient units. On a medical-telemetry unit, nurses have recently expressed frustration with communication and collaboration among the interprofessional team. A 68-year-old patient with a history of heart failure and diabetes was admitted for shortness of breath and fluid overload. During hospitalization, the bedside nurse noted increasing edema, elevated blood glucose levels, and decreased urine output. The nurse communicated concerns to the resident physician, but the physician dismissed the concerns as expected findings and did not adjust the care plan. Later that day, the nurse contacted the pharmacist to clarify a medication order that appeared inconsistent with the patients renal function. The pharmacist attempted to reach the physician but received no response. Meanwhile, physical therapy postponed ambulation due to uncertainty about the patients stability, and the dietitian was unaware of recent changes in the patients condition. By the next shift, the patients condition had worsened, resulting in transfer to a higher level of care. During the post-event review, team members acknowledged fragmented communication, unclear roles, and hesitation among nurses to escalate concerns. Write a 2-3 page paper (excluding title and reference pages) in APA 7 format that addresses the following. Use the bolded areas as your headings. 1. Case Analysis Introduction Identify the interprofessional communication and teamwork issues present in the case. Discuss how roles, power dynamics, and communication barriers contributed to the patient outcome. 2. Leadership Response As the nurse leader, explain how you would: Promote psychological safety and open communication Support nurses in speaking up and escalating concerns Clarify roles and expectations across the interprofessional team Identify the leadership style most appropriate for improving collaboration and explain why. 3. AI-Supported Collaboration Plan Using an AI tool of your choice, enter a prompt such as: Based on this healthcare case involving poor interprofessional collaboration, propose leadership strategies to improve teamwork, communication, and patient safety. Briefly summarize the AI-generated recommendations. Identify two strategies suggested by AI that you believe are realistic and appropriate. Identify one AI recommendation that may be unrealistic, incomplete, or problematic in real clinical practice. 4. AI Critique and Professional Judgment Critically evaluate the AI response: What important nursing, ethical, or organizational factors did the AI overlook? How does your clinical experience influence your agreement or disagreement with the AI recommendations? Explain why nurse leaders must critically evaluate AI-generated guidance rather than accept it at face value. 5. Personal Reflection Reflect on a current or past clinical setting: Describe an example of effective or ineffective interprofessional collaboration. How did leadership influence teamwork and communication? How could AI be helpful or harmful in supporting interprofessional collaboration in that setting? 6. Format 2-3 pages, not including title or reference page, May use first person when the assignment asks for your opinion. At least 2 scholarly sources, cited and referenced appropriately

  • Evidence-Based Project, Part 1: Identifying Research Methodo…

Is there a difference between common practice and best practice?

When you first went to work for your current organization, experienced colleagues may have shared with you details about processes and procedures. Perhaps you even attended an orientation session to brief you on these matters. As a rookie, you likely kept the nature of your questions to those with answers that would best help you perform your new role.

Over time and with experience, perhaps you recognized aspects of these processes and procedures that you wanted to question further. This is the realm of clinical inquiry.

Clinical inquiry is the practice of asking questions about clinical practice. To continuously improve patient care, all nurses should consistently use clinical inquiry to question why they are doing something the way they are doing it. Do they know why it is done this way, or is it just because we have always done it this way? Is it a common practice or a best practice?

In this Assignment, you will identify clinical areas of interest and inquiry and practice searching for research in support of maintaining or changing these practices. You will also analyze this research to compare research methodologies employed.

    To Prepare:

    • Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry. Keep in mind that the clinical issue you identify for your research will stay the same for the entire course.
    • Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
    • Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
    • Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.

    Part 1: Identifying Research Methodologies

After reading each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, use the Matrix Worksheet template to analyze the methodologies applied in each of the four peer-reviewed articles. Your analysis should include the following:

    • The full citation of each peer-reviewed article in APA format.
    • A brief (1-paragraph) statement explaining why you chose this peer-reviewed article and/or how it relates to your clinical issue of interest, including a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest.
    • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article.
    • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the research methodology used. Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.
    • A brief (1- to 2-paragraph) description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
