  • Multiple Intelligences

This assignment is about Howard Gardners Multiple Intelligences theory and how experienced nurses can use it to teach and mentor new nurses to improve critical thinking and clinical judgment.

The paper must be 23 pages in APA format with at least 3 scholarly sources.

    What the Paper Must Include

    1. Importance of Understanding Multiple Intelligences

Explain that people learn and think in different ways, and understanding these differences helps nurses teach, mentor, and communicate more effectively with new nurses.

    Example idea:

An experienced nurse can adjust teaching methods depending on how the novice nurse learns best.

    2. Four Types of Gardners Multiple Intelligences

Choose 4 types from Gardners list and explain them.

    Common examples:

    • Linguistic intelligence learning through reading, writing, and communication
    • Logicalmathematical intelligence problem solving, critical thinking, analyzing data
    • Interpersonal intelligence understanding and communicating well with others
    • Intrapersonal intelligence self-awareness and reflection
    • Bodilykinesthetic intelligence learning through physical tasks and hands-on skills
    • Visualspatial intelligence learning through images, charts, and visual tools

Then explain how at least two of these relate to how you think as a nurse, with examples from practice.

    Example:

Logical intelligence helps when analyzing patient labs or identifying complications.

    3. Impact of Using Multiple Intelligences When Mentoring Nurses

Explain how understanding different learning styles can affect mentoring.

    Positive impacts may include:

    • better teaching methods
    • improved communication
    • stronger teamwork
    • faster development of clinical skills

You should include examples from nursing experience.

    Example:

Some new nurses learn better through hands-on demonstrations, while others learn better through discussion or reading policies.

    4. How Multiple Intelligences Improve Mentoring and Learning

Explain how nurse educators or preceptors can use different teaching methods to improve learning.

    Examples:

    • demonstrations for hands-on learners
    • case studies for analytical thinkers
    • discussion for interpersonal learners
    • reflection exercises for self-aware learners

This helps develop critical thinking and clinical judgment in novice nurses.

    1. Introduction (explain multiple intelligences)
    2. Importance of understanding multiple intelligences
    3. Describe four types of intelligences
    4. Explain two that relate to your nursing thinking style
    5. Impact of using multiple intelligences in mentoring
    6. How it improves mentoring and learning
    7. Conclusion
    8. References

Nursing Research Article Critiques/Critical Appraisal & Grading Rubric

The ability to critically appraise or critique research or evidence is an essential nursing skill. This ability will assist in you in incorporating the best evidence to maintain a current, safe, and effective nursing practice. This assignment will also provide you with the basic knowledge of the necessary components of a research study.

Following a practice critique of a research article in class, students will choose from one of two research articles provided by the professor, or an approved articleof the students choosing* to critique or critically appraise individually in writing. This assignment will be completed in APA format using a title page, running head, subheadings, citations, and a reference list (No abstract). Due date is March 17th. Be sure to submit a copy of the journal article along with the Critique.

You may use the following questions from Dr. Armstrongs guidelines below or use either Melnyks, Johns Hopkins, or Astroth & Chungs guides included in this assignment folder. Your choice! If you choose to complete Melnyks or Johns Hopkins critical appraisal guidelines, you will need to type out each segment of the appraisal and respond to the questions in narrative format. Be sure to state, cite, and reference the source you use to critique or appraise the study. Be sure to cite and reference the study you are appraising or critiquing.

*Students will submit article requests for approval via email. Appraisals done using articles not previously approved by the professor via email will not be graded.

The following critique guidelines were adapted from Dr. J. Armstrong, Kings College:

    A. Page 1 Title Page with
