Editi-Human Case Study: Evaluating and Managing Integumentary Conditions

This course will require you to complete a series of case studies using the i-Human software application. The i-Human Patients (IHP) Case Player enables you to interact with virtual patients for the purpose of learning patient-assessment and diagnostic-reasoning skills. With IHP, you will be able to independently interview, examine, diagnose, and treat virtual patients and receive expert feedback on your performance.

The integumentary system is susceptible to a variety of diseases, conditions, and injuries, ranging from the bothersome but relatively innocuous bacterial or fungal infections that are categorized as disorders to skin cancer and severe burns, which can be life-threatening.

For this Case Study Assignment, you will examine your first case study and work with a patient with an integumentary condition. You will formulate a differential diagnosis, evaluate treatment options, and then create an appropriate treatment plan for the patient.

  • Nervous System (Biology)

Nervous tissue first arose in wormlike organisms about 550 to 600 million years ago. Nervous systems are found in most multicellular animals but vary greatly in complexity. The size of the nervous system ranges from a few hundred cells in the simplest worms, to around 300 billion cells in African elephants.

Your task is to write an illustrated report identifying the component of the nervous system and describing and explaining how it functions.

Your illustrated report should include a wide range of correctly cited illustrations to support your discussion and you must include the following:-

Analyse the component parts of the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system and autonomic nervous system and state their functions.

Discuss the structure of sensory and motor neurones and clearly explain how they work together to form a reflex arc. You should include an explanation of the functions of sensory and motor neurones in the reflex arc using an example of reflex action.

Explain the transmission of an action potential through a myelinated neurone and explain the all-or-nothing nature of nerve impulses. You must include the importance of the myelin sheath and the refractory period in determining the speed of nervous impulses.

Describe the structure and function of cholinergic synapses, as well as explaining their role in the nervous system. This should include how they determine direction of nerve impulse transmission and how they allow interconnection of nerve pathways.

Describe the causes, effects and implications of synaptic inhibition.

    Guidance

The report should be written using the recommended structure and format for an illustrated report as outlined in the study materials for the Academic Writing Skills unit.

Relevant theory must be referenced where appropriate and you must provide a references list and bibliography.

Your report should also contain appropriate drawings and diagrams to support your commentary. If these are taken from published sources, they must be referenced accordingly.

The report should be a maximum of 2,000 words in length.

    • Accurately relate theoretical knowledge to practice in relation to caring for patients who are at risk and/or deteriorating (SILO 1).
    • Accurately interpret scenario-based data to identify clinical and non-clinical priorities for patients (SILO 3).

    Purpose

Critiquing research papers helps a nurse remain current in the scientific literature and allows postgraduate students to analyse, describe and interpret a text to show understanding of what has been read.

    Task details

This assessment is designed to apply and consolidate learning in relation to understanding the key considerations when reading and interpreting an evidence-based clinical nursing article.

Read the article provided and write a brief review of the article using criteria to demonstrate your understanding and interpretation of the text.

    Instructions

Using the criteria outlined in the subject content below, provide a concise description and analysis of the text.

A journal article review’s introduction typically contains one paragraph, while a longer book review might have two or three paragraphs. Include a few sentences in the introduction announcing the author(s), the title, and briefly outlining the text’s subject. Summarise the main finding or main argument of the text and state its purpose. Finish the introduction with a brief assessment of the text. This assessment may be positive, neutral, adverse, or, as is frequently the case, a combination of the three.

Give a concise summary of the main ideas and a few representative examples. You may also briefly describe the text’s organisation and the author’s intentions throughout the text. Between a third and half of your review should be committed to your summary.

The critique ought to be a balanced discussion and assessment of the text’s advantages, disadvantages, and distinguishing qualities. Do not forget to base your discussion on specific criteria, rather than vague descriptions of it being ‘well written’, for example. To support your assessment, good reviews often include additional sources (remember to cite).

A conclusion, as mentioned earlier, should tie up the main points. It should restate your overall position, which in a critical review is your opinion of the text. You should never introduce new points in a conclusion, but you might add some further qualification of your opinion, to appear measured and reasonable.

Any other sources that you have referred to in your review must be detailed in a list of references, in the required format (APA7).

    • Summarise the text and compare and contrast it with other relevant literature.
    • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the text.
    • Select, summarise and/or paraphrase supporting evidence from the text to demonstrate and support analysis.
    • Please use an APA 7 Title Page on the front of your document.
    • Provide an introduction and conclusion.
    • Please ensure that your document adheres to APA 7 Style Guidelines with respect to overall formatting, as well as in-text citations and the end-of-text Reference List.

  • Week 5 Reflective Discussion

The reflective journal assignment will include peer and faculty engagement. All students will engage and support one another by sharing their nursing experiences in a supportive, constructive, and professional environment. Reflective practice is a cognitive skill that demands a conscious ability to review an experience with increased awareness of personal beliefs and values; consequently, leading to knowledge development in nursing (Patel & Metersky, 2021).

    Your Reflective Journal is:

    • A personal, introspective reflection of your nursing practice and how you apply current RN-BSN/MSN course topics including thoughts and feelings regarding practice application and new knowledge development.
    • Written in non-formal 300-400 words with no requirement of scholarly, academic style using APA style format.
    • Post your initial response to one of the two topics below.

    Topic 1: Faith-Based Nursing

Review Healthy People 2030. Identify objectives that are amenable to parish nurse intervention.

    • Describe how faith communities can contribute to the accomplishment of these national health objectives and accomplish the goal of improving the health of the public.
    • How can nurses working in the community form partnerships with parish nurses and faith communities?
    • How would such partnerships be beneficial?

Topic 2: Collaboration at the Local, State, and Federal Levels

    • Describe the roles of your local and state health departments in the accomplishment of healthcare promotion and goals.
    • How do their goals of health promotion meet the objective of Healthy People 2030?
    • How could nurses in the public health setting help clients to modify unhealthy behaviors at the primary and secondary prevention levels?
    • Please provide an example for each prevention level.

    Submission details

    • Write a brief 300-400 word reflection on your beliefs and insights about the selected topic. Feel free to share openly without concern about getting a grade expressing your personal thoughts or feelings in your writing. Your reflective journal must reflect your personal nursing practice experience.
