  • Adherence to Meat-Free Diets and Micronutrient Deficiency Ri…

the file named pdf Adherence to meat-free diets… is the project proposal I have done for this dissertation. it was marked, and it has comments to it-

    Literature review

An improved literature summary containing some

    key points. Some good

    awareness of the

topic, but there are sections that lack detail and specificity e.g. all adults and all meet-free diets will present a lot of variability/heterogeneity – may be beneficial to funnel to a specific micronutrient (or 2) deficiency in a specific demographic of the population e.g. Iron deficiency (and anaemia) in females from adolescence to post-menopause following a vegan diet.

    Hypothesis/research question

Question lacks a little further clarity and detail e.g. evidence of a deficiency & specific diet(s) would be beneficial. As well as clarity why you’re not looking at Vit B12.

    Aims and Objectives

Aims are stated and are clear. Objectives are also included. However, detail is lacking in places e.g. why not Vegan & B12? and may not be achievable in the timescale i.e. there are too many – beneficial to narrow your variables.

    Experimental design

A good attempt at the design and analysis, but some missing detail – Data analysis is covered but could be expanded upon e.g. how and what is going to be used to analyse the data.

Ethics cert mentioned, but not included – appendix or at least the cert number.

    Time plan

The time plan is included and is appropriate but more detail is needed e.g. you mention synthesis analysis here, but not above?

    Presentation

Generally a good presentation of the text. However, supporting evidence is missing in places and lacks some cohesion between some statements and sections. Writing style is good but links to literature are missed in part.

Reference/citations mainly in the correct referencing style.

do not forget to include the PRISMA flowchart

  • Discussion: Gut Microbes and Health

Purpose: Future health care professionals need to become comfortable sharing information about food and nutrition. In doing so, students must be sure to use reliable sources of information, interpret that information accurately, and communicate it clearly. These discussions will allow you to practice the skills that are used when educating clients about the connections between lifestyle and health.

The length of your response should be sufficient to respond in a clear and detailed manner, but should not wander from the focus of the prompt. It is recommended that your response stay in the 100-250 word count range. For replies to classmates, be sure to add to the conversation. Include new factual information. Your reply should be at least 4 sentences in length.

Task: Watch this video on the health impact of our microbiota:

What is one piece of information presented in the video that you found important and interesting? Your task will be to find current, evidence-based information on that topic.

To answer this prompt, find a research article from a reliable source on that one topic. Use either Google Scholar (

) or the library databases to be sure the article is scholarly. Filter for the last 5 years to make sure it is current.

Be sure to choose an article that is interesting to you. Read the entire article, not only the abstract.

Copy the following template into the reply to this discussion. Summarize the research by providing the following information, including a working link for the article.

    1. Title of research article:
    2. Authors:
    3. Title of the journal:
    4. Date of publication (must be within the past 5 years):
    5. Type of research or study design (refer to section 1.5 of your text to review the different types of studies):
    6. In your opinion, what was the most important finding? Summarize in at least 5 sentences.
    7. Working link to the full research article (so your classmates can read the source article):
  • Discussion: Food or Edible Food-like Substance?

Purpose: Future health care professionals need to become comfortable sharing information about food and nutrition.

Task: In the Chapter 1 lecture, you were introduced to Michael Pollan’s Food Rules (Chapter 1 Lecture at 5:20). He distinguishes between food and edible food-like substances. Michael Pollan created the simple rules to encourage us to think about what we are eating. This is not meant to be a “diet” to follow. It does not mean that we must avoid all “edible food-like substances.” But perhaps by learning more about the food we are eating, we will shift proportions to favor less ultra-processed food.

For this discussion, find one (and only one) example of a food and one (and only one) example of an edible food-like substance in your food environment.

Embed an image of each of the 2 items in your reply. Don’t know how to embed images? Use the Help function on the left-hand menu of Canvas, or ask Leo. Search “how to embed images in a discussion.”

Below the two images, describe which is the food and which is the edible food-like substance. How did you determine that distinction? Why does it matter? Be sure to reply to at least two classmates’ posts.

  • Nutrition Analysis Project

    Objectives

The purpose of the Nutrition Analysis Project activity is to:

    • Demonstrate understanding of macronutrients, vitamins and minerals and how to determine deficiencies and toxicity (CO 2)
    • Examine specific examples of cultural aspects of the diet (CO 3)
    • Identify dietary habits that need to be changed to healthier habits to maintain a healthy lifestyle (CO 2 and CO 4)

    Method of Evaluation

Students are required to complete a Nutrition Analysis Project activity which is worth 5% of their overall grade.

    Guidelines

Students are required to complete a Nutritional Analysis Project. The student will conduct an analysis of a 24-hour period to include macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Information will be organized in a table format to include: food list for 24 hours, total nutritional value of each item, and recommended daily allowance, risks of deficiency, and recommended changes. Students will then need to write a paper reflecting on their intake of foods including cultural influences and plans to improve and or maintain good nutrition.

The paper must be typed with 1 margins, double spacing and a 12-point Times Roman font. The paper should also include a reference list. The American Psychological Association format must also be utilized for the paper. The paper should be between three and five pages in length (not including cover page, abstract, references, exhibits, etc.). The paper must be submitted through Canvas in order for the paper to be uploaded to Turnitin.

Completion of this assignment is a prerequisite for passing the course. Students who do not complete this assignment will receive a grade equal to the lesser of 72% or their final course grade calculated per the Method of Evaluation set forth above.

The rubric below will be utilized to grade the paper.
