Discussion Forum # 2: Our Ocean Timeline Class Presentation
excerpt:
Discussion Forum #2: Our Ocean Timeline Presentation
Step 1: Review the Presentation
Please take time to view our Ocean Timeline Presentation posted on Moodle. I have compiled everyones slides into one chronological slideshow. A few of the slides were created by students in other sections or from past semesters. To keep the focus on your content, Ive removed names from previous semesters.
Step 2: Write Your Reflection
By Friday, February 20, 2026, post a one-paragraph reflection (about 510 sentences) in this forum after reviewing the slideshow. You might consider these prompts to guide your response:
- What new information did you learn?
- Which events were you already familiar with?
- How has the humanocean relationship changed over time?
- In what ways have people impacted the ocean?
- What questions are you left with after viewing the timeline?
- Which slide stood out to you most, and why?
Feel free to expand beyond these prompts if something else prompts your curiosity.
Step 3: Comment and Connect
By Tuesday, February 24, 2026, respond to at least three classmates posts. Be specific in your replies:
- Highlight what you found interesting about their perspective.
- Share your thoughts if you noticed something similar or different in your own reflection.
- If they created a slide, comment on what stood out to you about it.
The goal is for everyone to receive meaningful feedback, promote conversation, and get to know one another better as we explore ocean history together.
YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO STEP 3. RESPONSES WILL BE GIVEN BELOW. RESPONSES SHOULD BE 4-5 SENTENCES.

MARINE SCIENCE
Choose a marine organism and discuss thoroughly its potential for mariculture, and whether or not it would be a good candidate for development. Be sure to discuss the biology of the organism, the environmental impacts, nutritional/use value, economic viability and any sustainability issues that may arise from its cultivation. The assignment should be a maximum of 8 pages, double space, size 12 font, APA style, not including cover and reference pages. Please note that the assignment will be checked for plagiarism and/or inappropriate use of undocumented sources. -
reflection

- Compare the roles of scientists, writers, and citizens in opposing destructive coastal development. What strategies did they use, and how effective were they?

Case Study: Supporting Families with Unique Circumstances
Attached are screenshots of assignment directions and the book we are using. -
oce project
- Please do not post any picture just because it looks cute. All pictures, photos, diagrams, graphs, maps should be discussed in your presentation. All diagrams must have a caption and the reference (i.e., the source from where the diagram was picked) next to the diagram and explanation. Do not cut and paste an infographic and expect the professor will read it and understand it. Every diagram (including infographics) should be perfectly legible — please make sure the font or resolution are not too small to be legible.
- The project will be graded chiefly on the depth, extent and completeness of your research. Your first sources would be your text book and references there, wikipedia (and the references and links there in) and google search.
THIS IS THE TOPIC
Coastal Pollution in South Florida and remediation:
Socioeconomic, Public Health, and Policy Implications
Focus: Human dimensions of coastal pollution
Key Content:
Public health risks (pathogens, harmful algal blooms, seafood safety)
Economic impacts on tourism, fisheries, and coastal property
Environmental justice concerns (low-income & coastal communities)
Regulatory framework
Clean Water Act
Florida state water policies
Local municipal enforcement challenges
College Expectation:
Critically analyze policy effectiveness and cite government or academic sources.
It should be comprehensive — examine all aspects of the topic (scientific, social, moral, economical, political and other aspects– but please do not think that these are required section headings that you must include in your presentation). You should also look into the problem from the view points of all the stake holders: for example in a hypothetical project on the effects of Navy Sonar, you not only discuss Navy Sonar, you should discuss arguments both for and against and try to represent viewpoints of Navy, fishermen, tourism industry, general citizen, animal rights etc). For each of the topic you must propose a solution or future course of action.
EXPECTATIONS
Must be well-researched
Use textbook, Wikipedia + references, Google, papers
Include multiple viewpoints & propose solutions
Research depth = main grading factor
