    1. Define and compare the main types of hackers (e.g., black hat, white hat, gray hat).
      • Which group most benefits from learning with Kali Linux in an ethical training environment?
    2. Explain how Kali Linux can be used as an educational tool for students to understand hacker techniques.
      • Why is it important to learn offensive techniques in order to defend systems?
    3. Identify and describe three Kali Linux tools that illustrate both offensive and defensive learning:
      • Nmap offensive: scanning networks for open ports; defensive: teaching students how to detect and close vulnerabilities.
      • Metasploit offensive: exploiting known vulnerabilities; defensive: testing patches and IDS/IPS systems.
      • Wireshark offensive: capturing network packets; defensive: analyzing traffic for intrusion detection.
    4. For one of the tools you find, give one classroom application where you have use this (e.g., scanning a test network, simulating an exploit in a lab, analyzing captured packets).

    Deliverables

    • A 3 page research paper (double-spaced, 12 pt font).
    • Include at least two credible references (journal articles, security blogs, or official Kali Linux documentation).
    • Submit as a PDF or Word document.

  • TroubleshootingDiscussion Thread: Video Card Troubleshooting

There is a diagnosis of a bad video card on a client’s computer made by another technician. The client would like to have a new video card installed on the desktop. How would you ensure that the diagnosis is correct? If it is correct, explain the steps you would take to ensure a new video card is properly installed.

  • Information Security Week 3

There are many types of information security policies out there. On your own, search for one institution that provides security policies from a variety of higher education institutions. Then, evaluate the specific policy by discussing your findings in a PowerPoint presentation. Your presentation must address the following points outlined below.

    • Discuss the process of how your chosen organization develops, implements, and maintains various types of information. This information is discussed in Chapter 4 of your reading. (You might compare your findings with the material discussed in the textbook or the NIST Special Publication, which is provided in the Unit III Suggested Unit Resources section.)
    • What are the functional components of an information security program?
    • Does the program of the organization you chose include every component? If not, how does it function?

Please use some creativity in your presentation. In formatting your PowerPoint presentation, use bullets, graphs, and/or charts in your slides to identify important points, and then discuss those points in the speaker notes of each slide.

Your PowerPoint presentation must be at least 10 slides in length (not counting the title and reference slides). You are required to use a minimum of three peer-reviewed, academic sources that are no more than 5 years old (one may be your textbook). All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced, and all paraphrased material must have accompanying in-text citations. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment.

Operating System Overview: Briefly explain the role of an operating system in managing

    hardware and software resources.

Interrupts in Operating Systems: Discuss the concept of interrupts by answering:

  • What is an interrupt?
  • Why are interrupts important in OS design?
  • Differentiate between: Hardware interrupts and Software interrupts
  • Give one real-world example of an interrupt (e.g., keyboard input, timer).
  • Threads and Multithreading: Explain the following:

  • What is a thread?
  • Difference between a process and a thread
  • Benefits of multithreading in modern applications
  • Provide one example of an application that uses threads (e.g., web browser, video player).
  • Reflection: Explain how interrupts and threads improve system performance and responsiveness.

Note: The maximum allowed similarity percentage is mentioned in the syllabus. Also, do not forget

    to mention your references

  • Operating Systems Question

This is your first minor assignment. The focus is on using Photoshop techniques we discussed in class to map materials and textures onto surfaces in the attached drawing.

    Core Objective:
Create a visually striking, well-composed, and highly legible drawing by adding depth, richness, and materiality to a raw perspective or line drawing. I encourage you to be creative with your stylistic choices, overall composition, and the way you interpret and apply textures.

You are free to work in any aesthetic direction you prefer:

    • realistic
    • stylized / illustrative
    • abstract
    • conceptual / surreal
    • graphic / flat with texture accents
or any hybrid approach that excites you.

What you may include (encouraged when it supports your vision):

    • Text / typography
    • Icons, symbols, or graphic elements
    • Background image or environment
    • Any material textures (wood, metal, fabric, concrete, glass, organic surfaces, digital/glitch effects, etc.) you feel are appropriate

    Minimum requirement (required to pass):
Every visible surface in your perspective drawing must be mapped with some form of texture or material. No unmapped / blank areas should remain on the main drawn elements.
To aim for the highest grades:
Go beyond basic coverage. Develop a clear concept, mood, or narrative and make intentional, cohesive decisions about:

    • material choices
    • lighting direction & shadow quality
    • color harmony
    • level of detail vs. abstraction in different areas
    • overall visual hierarchy and storytelling

Think of this as an opportunity to transform a simple line drawing into a rich, atmospheric, and purposeful piece.Due date: Monday night (by 11:59 PM)

When you submit your assignment, please submit TWO FILES:

1- PHOTOSHOP FILE (so that I can open and see your layers)

2- A simple JPEG image that you exported from your photoshop file that I can quickly open and see your result.

If you fail to submit these two files, you will not be graded, so please make sure to submit both.

Take your timethoughtful work and attention to detail will make a big difference.

I look forward to seeing your creative interpretations!

Good luck and enjoy the process!
