  • Psychology Question

part 1 DB: People often consider the ease of telehealth. It brings medical care, behavioral health, and mental health to rural areas. However, telehealth brings numerous challenges, risks, and concerns that are often overlooked. States require that persons providing telehealth be adequately trained. This training includes the risk factors, emergency procedures, and screening for persons not suitable for telehealth. Some populations, in particular, would be persons experiencing suicide ideation. The practitioner must have the skills and knowledge to know which populations are not suitable, have a plan in place if the internet connection is suddenly terminated or is experiencing technical difficulties, and have a secured HIPAA-compliant platform.

Reviewing the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, identify at least two codes applicable to telehealth. Then, discuss three concerns not mentioned above that professional counselors should be aware of and take precautions to be equipped to manage these concerns. In-text citations are required, as are references below your initial response.

    Part 2: Overview:

As you continue to learn about various theories, approaches, and interventions, you should consider your own personal theoretical model of counseling. The assigned chapter this week gives discussion and guidance on integrative practices. Integrative practices are intentional selections of aspects of a theory or therapy. The professional counselor weaves this into the session with the client.

    Instructions:

For this paper, you will select two therapies/theories.

Using one as your base theory/ therapy, identify what additional aspect of another theory/ therapy you would weave into your personal model when working with clients. For instance, Freudian therapy discusses the Id, ego, and superego. An integrative approach may substitute Bernes transactional analysis for these. They will use parent, child, and adult. They will help the client to identify when his parent is engaging with someone elses child or vice versa. Highlighting these transactions helps us understand our repeated way of engaging with others, resulting in challenges or not getting our needs met. Another way example is to consider that existential therapy doesnt have techniques, but an existential therapist might borrow techniques from other theories, such as Gestalt when working with a client.

    Requirements:
    • Your paper will be at least 3, no more than 5 pages in length (not including reference pages).
    • You will use APA 7 formatting, but this assignment does not require a title page and abstract.

    Requirements: as long as needed

  • COGLAB

For the report, you will write about one of the CogLabs (helpful hint, choose a CogLab that you are confident you understand.) As the instructions indicate, the first part of the paper will just identify certain aspects of the CogLab (research question, hypothesis, IVs, DVs, etc.) The next section of the paper will compare your results with the global results. In this section, you will write a result section that includes your statistics (Means) and the global statistics (Means). You should compare your means to the global means like the high grade example paper. You will also indicate whether your results supported the hypothesis or not; and how your results are similar or dissimilar from the global results.

For the third section, you will find a current article (after 2000) that uses the same procedure as your CogLab, but uses the procedure to test a different hypothesis. You will basically write a page (or page and half) summary of the paper (see the instructions in the files tab for more information.) In the summary, you need to indicate the research idea, the hypothesis, the operational definitions (e.g., IVs, DVs,), the procedure the participants followed (research design), and the results of the study (you do not need to list all the statistical tests, but only the means for the groups and whether the hypothesis was supported). Please paraphrase and do not just plagiarize.

For the fourth section, you will come up with your own novel research idea (research proposal) that could be tested using the procedure from the CogLab. You will indicate your novel (new) research idea, hypothesis, and operational definitions of your variables of interest (IVs and DVs)

Finally, for the final section, you will write about the methodology (research design) you would use to design your novel experiment. Specifically, what are the exact procedure that your participants will follow in your experiment. It is ideal in this section to include concepts from the chapters to receive the highest possible grade. For example, what scale of measurement are you using, what sampling method are you using, what design are you using (i.e, descriptive, correlational, true experiment), and what are potential strengths and weakness of that design. You do not need to include concepts we have not covered yet, but please use some of the concepts we have covered so far in the class for the highest possible grade.

The way psychology as a field conceptualizes normality and abnormality is important and complex. Although there is no single definition of what is abnormal, there is a shared understanding in the conditions that define abnormality. Societies have defined abnormality in different ways throughout time. Understanding the past can help us understand how we got to where we are today. This course examines the progression of our understanding of abnormality and how we define normality versus abnormality. It also introduces the manual psychologists use to define, describe, and diagnose mental health disorders.

Determining an accurate diagnosis for a mental condition is not always easy. Finding the cause of a mental condition can also be difficult. There are many origins of abnormal behavior, and the development of abnormal behavior can be understood differently from various perspectives.

It is important for psychology professionals to understand how theories help us to recognize, explain, and treat the sources of maladaptive behavior. Through this process, we can recognize our own biases and better explore options for helping those who exhibit abnormal behaviors.

In this first assessment, you’ll explore one abnormal behavior and use theory to help understand it. You’ll also discuss a measure targeted at assessing this behavior in addition to related ethical considerations.

    • To begin this assessment, select one theory from the biological or psychological perspective.
        • Neurotransmitter or hormone imbalance
        • Cognitive-behavioral perspective.
    • Then select one abnormal behavior.
        • Excessive handwashing
    • Locate one peer-reviewed journal article on the behavior.
    • LINK TO ARTICLE:
    • Use PsycTESTS database in the to choose a measure/test for your abnormal behavior.
      • Use the to help you get started.
      • In your paper, complete the following:

        • Introduction: Abnormal behavior.
          • Describe the abnormal behavior.
            • Use evidence from a peer-reviewed research article to support your description or add additional details or examples.
        • Theory.
          • Describe your theory, including details required to understand the abnormal behavior youve chosen.
            • Use your theory to describe the cause of your selected abnormal behavior.
          • Note at least one weakness about your theory or how it explains this behavior.
        • Measures.
          • Describe the measure you chose.
          • Describe the ethical considerations of choosing a psychological measure/test.
          • Use the information on validity and reliability to support your choice of this measure.
        • Conclusion.
          • Summarize your main point and include concluding thoughts.

  • End of Unit Activity 1

Seasonal cold snaps in the Costal Bend (and elsewhere) result in a high rate of cold-stunned sea turtles. In late December 2025, the Texas State Aquarium alone

. These efforts rely on conservation partners and volunteers to report sightings. New technologies can aid in this effort. Specifically, uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) that make use of semi-autonomous drones can quickly comb large areas and send information and images back to a central command center. This can produce a lot of data, so AI-powered computer aided detection (CAD) systems have been developed to help reduce the load. Making good use of these technologies, of course, also requires understanding the cognition of the people operating them.

For this End of Unit Activity, lets say you are a psychology researcher partnering with a non-profit that is building a conservation program to make finding and responding to cold-stunned sea turtles more effective. The program will use a small fleet of drones to capture images along the coast during cold stun events. The images will consist of photos of the shoreline and up to 2 km out in the bay. Because this will result in a lot of images, most of which will not contain a turtle, the captured images will be screened using a CAD system to filter images based on the likelihood of a turtle-like object is in the image. The CAD system flags images that have something that resembles a turtle but might produce a false positive (e.g., beach toys on the shore or other sea life out in the water). The flagged images are sent to a team of screeners who look for turtles in each image, and report sightings.

The software allows for adjustment in the threshold for how picky it is at labeling an object as a turtle. Decreasing the threshold decreases the number of false positives but also increases the number of misses. Increasing the threshold decreases the number of misses but increases the number of false positives (meaning more images for people to look through). The non-profit must balance the sensitivity and specificity of the CAD system against the availability of volunteers to screen the flagged images.

Your tasks is to propose a study that will help the non-profit make decisions about the implementation of this program. Assume there are other research teams helping with this project, so the scope of your study should be limited to a specific aspect of the program (e.g., threshold setting, screener training, screener selection, etc.). The board of the non-profit have set the following requirements for proposals:

    1. A title page
    2. A two-to-three-page introduction explaining the background and motivation for the study. The introduction should end with a paragraph that clearly states the research question and an explanation for why answering the question is important to the larger project.
    3. A description of the method of the proposed study including (1) participants needed, (2) materials and equipment that will be used, (3) and a summary of the procedure.
    4. A one-to-three-page discussion of the anticipated results. This can include the most anticipated outcome of the method and its implication for the program or two competing likely outcomes that have different potential impacts on the program.
    5. A reference section (with no fewer than three peer-reviewed references, one of which is not part of the course content)

Use the above prompt to write an APA-style paper that meets the proposal guidelines. A successful proposal will use psychological theory to address one of the practical problems in the prompt.

  • Psychological disorder and treatment

Overview This week, you’ll complete an oral presentation focusing on one psychological disorder and the most common treatment for that disorder. Preparation Select one psychological disorder (that you have not examined in previous assignments) and a treatment for that disorder to use for this assignment. Choose one of the following: Presenting at a senior center to an audience primarily over 65 years old. Presenting at a local high school to the students. Presenting at a daycare to the childcare providers. Presenting at a YMCA to an audience of primarily adults. Become familiar with the software you’ll use to record your presentation and create your slides. See the possible resources below. Locate two peer-reviewed journal articles: one on the disorder and one on the treatment. Slideshow Instructions This will be an oral presentation; you’ll want to record your presentation and support your words with a slideshow. You may use PowerPoint to create this slideshow, or if you wish, you may use other options. You are responsible for making your presentation work. Use the Capella University Library: PowerPoint PresentationsLinks to an external site. library guide or refer to PowerPoint under Tools and Resources for more information about how to create a PowerPoint presentation. Design Considerations Consider the following when creating the presentation: Be sure to use the minimum number of words needed. It would be ideal to have no more than six bullet point entries on a slide and no more than 10 words per entry. You can always add more slides to cover any given topic. Be sure to use typefaces that are easy to read. Do not use more than two typefaces of different names (such as Helvetica or Times). Do not use different typefaces that are similar in style. However, it is very helpful to use some appropriate contrasts of sizes and weights of type to focus the viewer’s attention on the most important content within each slide. Consider using pictures and diagrams, in addition to words, to convey relevant information visually. However, minimize the use of decorative elements or effects that distract from meaning. For any visual material within your presentation that you did not create yourself, cite the source. For presentations in a professional context: If you use pictures or diagrams that you did not create yourself, you must seek out, and abide by, applicable copyright restrictions. Use Week 9: Google Search: ImagesLinks to an external site. as a resource for finding free images online. If required by members of your audience, be prepared to make appropriate accommodations. Use current APA style citations and list references in slides at the end of the presentation. Refer to Academic WriterLinks to an external site. for guidance in using proper APA style. See the Evidence and APALinks to an external site. section of the Writing Center for instructions on accessing and using Academic Writer. Instructions Using your course text, resources from readings, the DSM-5-TRLinks to an external site., and two or more scholarly journal articles, create a 48 minute oral presentation in which you: Describe the selected psychological disorder from the DSM-5-TR. Support with a peer-reviewed journal article and include mention of race and gender. Discuss the current diagnostic criteria for the disorder from the DSM-5-TR. Provide a brief case example in which a client’s behavior corresponds to diagnostic criteria. Describe the most common treatment option. Support with a peer-reviewed journal article. Generate three questions your audience might ask and present the answers. Recommended Outline Slide 1: Title slide with presentation title, your name, course number, and instructor name. Oral presentation notes: Start by introducing yourself and identifying your audience and topic. Slide 2: Describe the diagnosis, supported with evidence from a peer-reviewed journal article. Oral presentation notes: Define any terms or concepts that would be unfamiliar to your audience and include a discussion of race and gender. Slide 3: Use a case example to illustrate the diagnostic criteria. Oral presentation notes: Choose an example that would appeal to your chosen audience. Slide 4: Describe the most common treatment option. Oral presentation notes: Use language that would be easy for your audience to understand. Slide 5: Use scientific evidence (peer-reviewed journal article) to support the efficacy of the treatment. Oral presentation notes: Focus on the key aspects of the evidence that would interest your audience. Slide 6: Questions and Answers. Slide 7: References. Oral presentation notes: Thank your audience for their time/attendance. Additional Requirements Presentation Instructions Your presentation should be 48 minutes in length. Your presentation should employ effective spoken delivery. Elements include: Appropriate volume and clear pronunciation. Avoidance of audible fidgeting and distracting interjections. Variety of intonation and pacing and appropriate use of pauses. The Guidelines for Public Speaking media piece can provide helpful assistance. Important: Before you deliver or record your presentation, it is recommended that you allow ample time to practice your presentation until you master all these and are comfortable with these elements. You may record the slideshow presentation with your spoken narration or arrange with your instructor for a time to deliver it live. If you choose to present live, contact your instructor prior to this week so you can set up a time to meet. If you choose to record your audiovisual presentation, it is recommended that you use Kaltura. However, you may use alternative software you are familiar with. Refer to Audio and Video in this Course under Tools and Resources for more information on Kaltura. • DSM-5-TR diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders

Overview DSM diagnoses are applied to symptomatic individuals who are brought to healthcare providers, which may result in labeling. But our understanding of the psychological conditions people experience is enhanced if we keep in mind that some ages and populations are probably more sensitive to environmental conditions than others. Selecting a diagnosis carefully and ensuring it is evident in the client will result in the most effective treatment. For this assignment, you are asked to think critically about the current diagnostic system and the medical model of mental illness. Preparation Select (and watch) a movie or documentary about a real-life person who has been diagnosed with a disorder listed in the DSM-5-TR. Examples: Washington, D. (Director). (2002). Antwone Fisher. Fox Searchlight Pictures. Howard, R. (Director). (2001). A beautiful mind. Universal Pictures. Mangold, J. (Director). (1999). Girl, interrupted. Columbia Pictures. Jackson, M.
